Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Disappointed Because He is Not Home
Stuart was sitting in his office while he was talking to Mr. Sampson. He stopped reading his documents instantly. Is she disappointed because he’s not there? Maybe Mr. Sampson misunderstood.
She told him not to interfere with her business. He assumed that she never wanted to see him again.
What Mr. Sampson just told him really touched his heart. Maybe there was hope, Stuart thought.
"Mr. Yates?" Mr. Sampson thought he couldn’t hear him so, he asked again.
"I heard what you said," Stuart said peacefully, and then he hung up the phone. He stood there, thinking and found himself starting to feel a little better. He closed the file and stood up, grabbed his jacket, and started to walk out.
His assistant Ivan was in the office with Stuart. When he saw Stuart about to leave, Ivan stood up immediately.
"Mr. CEO," he said. "You are leaving early today." Stuart was leaving early, and Ivan didn’t look very pleased. He was hesitating whether he should tell Stuart something.
"Mr. CEO, there may be some problems here....."
Stuart said casually, "Cooperation with Heritage International? It is just sixty million dollars. We can talk about it tomorrow. I have an urgent matter that I have to tend to. We can discuss this later." freewёbnoνel.com
Ivan shook his head immediately, "It is not about anything to do with the company. It is about Mrs. Yates."
"Mrs. Yates," he stopped in his steps immediately. Frowning, he glared at Ivan, "What are you talking about and what happened?"
Stuart’s face grew serious whenever anyone mentioned Edie. Looking at his eyes, Ivan got nervous. He didn’t want to look him right in the eyes. He passed Stuart his laptop and said, "Take a look at this."
Stuart looked at the laptop, and in big, bold letters, it said, "Edie Lara is getting out of the entertainment circle." There were several messages on the top uncovering Edie’s dirty business, which, of course, was the only gossip. Not just the media reporters were talking about her, but also some of her classmates from college. They were saying how she had three abortions during her college period.
It only takes one day to ruin one’s reputation. After reading all the news, Stuart didn’t show any expression on his face. Ivan could feel his rage. He was standing right beside, and he almost felt frightened.
Ivan was bitter inside. If something happened to Mrs. Yates, it was his responsibility to report it to Stuart. He knew that in showing him, he would not be very impressed with him. Gathering his courage, Ivan said, "Mr. CEO, how can we..."
"Ask the network department to work tonight."
"What?" Ivan wasn’t sure what he wanted. He just wanted to leave, and now he’s asking him to do this."
"Get the public relations and propaganda department and hold a meeting and tell them it will start in one hour."
Stuart was analyzing the situation and meticulously gave orders calmly. Ivan finally realized that Mr. CEO was going to take care of the media on his own terms. He had the power and the contacts to do so.
The Network Department was in charge of handling the messages to control the direction of the public’s opinion. While the public relations department was to find solutions to lessen the impact, the propaganda department would carry out the solution and change the image.
Everyone working for Stuart was earning millions of dollars a year, and now they are working overtime for an actress from another company. Ivan felt very uncomfortable, and he didn’t dare to say anything in front of Mr. CEO. Instead, he replied immediately, "Yes, sir. I will make the arrangements at once."
Stuart walked back into the office and sat down. He looked at his phone and remembered what Mr. Sampson had told him. He was in deep thought, and he finally opened his computer on the desk to prepare for the meeting.
Edie was back home, and both Carol and Carey were so happy to see her. When she left home, the house was so quiet. But when she was there, it was as though the house came alive. To welcome their madam home, they prepared a table of delicious food.
Edie wasn’t in the mood to eat. It was time for dinner, but Stuart hasn’t come back from work. She was a little sad and asked Mr. Sampson, "Do you think he will be back tonight for dinner?"
Seeing the look on Edie’s face, Mr. Sampson was worried. They rarely spent any time together after getting married. Edie was home, so why is, young master still working? What would be more important than being with his wife? Was his work more important than making a baby for their family? He didn’t dare tell Edie what he was thinking.
"Madam, I was talking to a young master, and he said he would be working overtime tonight."
Edie nodded with disappointment. She had to accept it. He may be a little late, but she could wait for him. She was the one that owed him an apology. After dinner, Edie sat in the living room and watched a movie. She had a hard time concentrating on it, as she kept checking the time.
It was eight o’clock, and he still wasn’t home. Nine o’clock came and again no Stuart. When it was ten o’clock, Edie had finished watching two movies, and yet he wasn’t back.
Mr. Sampson was standing beside her the whole time. She felt sorry for him, "Mr. Sampson, you must be tired? You should go to bed." Mr. Sampson was old, and he was quite sleepy. When Edie called him, he was standing there with his eyes closed.
Hearing his name, he straightened his back immediately, "Yes, madam, what can I do for you?"
"Nothing, Mr. Sampson. You can go to sleep now." frёewebηovel.cѳm
Mr. Sampson shook his head immediately, "No, it was a rule for the steward in the British Royal family, that the steward is not allowed to rest before their master."
"It is after ten o’clock, Mr. Sampson, and I won’t be going to bed for a while. I don’t need anything, and I know how tired you are. With you standing right beside me, it makes me feel a little uncomfortable."
She knew he was tired, and she just wanted him to get some rest. Mr. Sampson thought about it, and he really didn’t want to make Edie feel uncomfortable. He hesitated for a while, and then he said, "Okay, Mrs. Yates, I will retire to my bedroom now. Please call me if you need anything."
Edie nodded, "All right." Edie took a pillow from the chair and fell asleep on the sofa. Stuart got back quite late and saw that the light in the living room was on, he froze. He looked at Edie lying on the couch, sound asleep. He couldn’t describe how he felt; all he knew was how much he cared for her.
Stuart was exhausted after working the whole day and night. He slowly walked towards her and looked at her face. His eyes grew soft. Lowering his body, Stuart held Edie up, they walked upstairs slowly and smoothly, to the bedroom on the second floor.
