Chapter 318: Chapter 318: Nothing’s Wrong
That evening, when Edie went back to her hotel room. She collapsed onto the bed and fell asleep immediately. She had just dozed off when her phone awakens her, "Hello," she answered, clearly half asleep.
"Edie!" Stuart’s low, a deep voice murmured into her ear. Rising and falling with a rhythm that remained rich and clear.
Although they had only been apart for a few days, she had missed him like hell, and it felt like an eternity. Edie’s headaches and she couldn’t shake the sickening feeling in the pit of her stomach. Her mind wandered to the events of the day. ’Should I tell Stuart about what happened with Clyde. No! It would only make him worry.’ Edie had to stifle the urge to cry.
"You sound a little weird. Is there anything wrong?’ Stuart asked.
Edie shook her head, unable to bring herself to tell Stuart about Clyde. "Nothing’s wrong! I just woke up, and I’m tired, that’s all," she explained and took a deep breath. There was only one person in her life whose soothing voice always seemed to calm her nerves.
"How did your first day go? I couldn’t stop thinking about you!" he said, speaking in a soft voice.
Again Edie thought about what happened on the set. ’I can’t tell Stuart about any of it. The slap or what Clyde did for me. He’d be angry, and it could possibly delay the filming process.’ She hesitated. "Malloy, the director, was impressed with my acting. It’s a complicated role I’m playing, so I’m more tired than usual after filming. I just need to rest. I’ll be fine by tomorrow."
"Why don’t you come home? You’re Mrs. Yates, and you don’t need the money!" Stuart said, concern rising in his voice.
"You know why, Stuart! I love acting! Oh! I forget to tell you, I have a scene with Katrina," Edie spoke with a hint of excitement in her voice.
There was a deep silence for a moment. "Edie, there’s something I need to tell you.?"
Feeling anxious, she asks, "What! What is it?"
"My mother is coming to the city soon." Not knowing what Edie’s reaction would be, Stuart’s tone changes, and he allows a note of uncertainty to enter his voice.
Edie squeezed the phone tightly, feeling stunned, and with a strange sensation of not knowing how to react. "Your mother! What is she like?" Edie asked. She had never met his mother before but heard lots about her. She had always pictured her as this cold-hearted woman. "She’s my mother...in-law? Why is she coming" Edie could barely speak because she was so nervous? "What if she doesn’t like me?" Edie immediately felt a twinge of insecurity.
Stuart laughed at her response. "She’s coming to see you and to check on things with the company. No, she’s not going to like you, she’s going to love you!"
Edie asked question after question. "What’s your mother like? Is she like you? I don’t even know what she looks like!" She looked at the phone, waiting for a response. Her face is full of curiosity.
"Stop worrying. It’ll be fine, and you only have to meet her once," Stuart said, reassuring her.
"I can’t help it! Is it not important to you if your mother likes me or not?" Edie asked, sounding out of breath. Stuart was full of confidence and reassured Edie again. Finally, Edie let out a sigh of relief. "You’re right. There’s nothing to worry about. I’m Mrs. Yates, and we love each other, I guess that’s all that matters.
"Exactly!’ Stuart said.
The next few days of the shooting went smoothly. Edie didn’t know if her mind was playing tricks on her, but she thought Vicky’s attitude toward her improved. Clyde did exactly what he said he was going to do, and Wilma arrived on the set. There was a retake of the slapping scene, and Wilma was very gentle with Edie. After the scene, Edie suffered severe menstrual cramps with intense pain. It had started to rain, and Edie decided she would go back to her room and rest.
Malloy walked up to Edie and smiled. "Edie, the cast and I have been talking. Since it’s raining today, it would be perfect for the rescue scene." This scene was to take place in the rain. It involved Sally being imprisoned and Mae having to go to Prince Raines and ask for his help.
"It’s a rain scene!" Edie exclaimed. "I’m not feeling well, and this scene involves me kneeling and getting...." she hesitated. "I’m a little concerned about getting wet." ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
"I see," Malloy said, sounding disappointed. "We may not have another chance like this one. The scene shouldn’t take too long, and Clyde’s schedule is tight. Would you reconsider? Everyone’s already in place. They’re all waiting for you."
Edie felt guilty because she did not know how to say no to people who placed demands on her. "I feel guilty saying no to you, but if I agree, I’m only going to feel worse. If that happens, it may delay the filming process."
"This is an important scene! We need to..." Malloy never had a chance to finish his sentence before he was interrupted by Edie.
"Okay! I’ll do it!" she agreed. Edie knew that delaying the film would set the production back. Clyde makes millions of dollars, and Dynasty Elegy was very lucky to have him. She had no choice, and she had to do it. Then Edie thought, ’If I do this, Clyde will soon be finished, he doesn’t have many scenes left. I can’t wait; he makes me feel so uncomfortable. He’s staring and watching my every move.’
Malloy clapped his hands, "That’s great news!" he said.
Edie shook her head and laughed. "How could a small-time actress like me turn a famous director like you down?"
The look of satisfaction was all over Malloy’s face. He nodded and smiled. "I’m going to go tell Clyde and the rest of the cast."
Rhoda was well aware of Edie’s condition. Edie walked on the set, and Rhonda asked," Edie, are you sure you’re feeling well enough?"
