Chapter 317: Chapter 317: He Was Looking For You
The sun was setting when Edie returned to the dressing room. Every inch of her body was hurting. ’Being a servant is hard work,’ Edie thought. ’Standing on your feet all day, serving people, kneeling and saluting.’ Edie changed back into her clothes and sat back on the sofa to relax before leaving for the hotel.
The door suddenly opened, and Edie jumped. "Hi, Salome," Edie said with a surprised look on her face. "I thought everyone had gone for the night."
"No, there’s only me and Clyde left. He was looking for you," Salome said, taking a deep breath.
Edie looked at her remembering the conversation they had earlier on in the day. The impression of Salome was that she was kind and considerate. "Do you know what he wants?" Edie asked her.
"I don’t know, but today he really scared me with his temper. I’ve never seen him so angry before." Salome lowered her voice. "I have friends who have worked with Clyde, and they were quite surprised when I told them about Clyde’s attitude today." She sat down and started taking her makeup off.
Edie didn’t want to have another run-in with Clyde. She quickly stood up and said, "I’m done for the day. I’m going back to the hotel. I’ll see you tomorrow."
"Okay! Have a good night," Salome waved goodbye.
Edie slowly entered the corridor, peeking around the corner. "Thank God! He’s not here," she mumbled. She stepped around the corner and bumped into Rhonda.
"Oh, Edie! I’ve been looking for you. Clyde gave me this to give to you," Rhonda handed Edie a tube of ointment.
Edie eyed the tube and raised her eyebrows. "This is used for swelling and pain? Why did he give it to you?"
Rhonda passed Edie the cream and said, "Did you forget you were slapped by Geneva? He asked one of the assistants today if she would pick you up some. Clyde is very kind to you!"
"No! Of course, I didn’t forget. I’m...." She paused for a moment, her eyes downcast, and her voice soft as she finished her sentence. "I’m a little nervous because I don’t understand why he’s so nice to me," Edie felt her anxiety rising to an uncomfortable level. "I don’t want people to get the wrong idea about Clyde and me. If that happens, the media will go crazy. Lies and rumors! It spreads fast on the media."
"Calm down! He’s only trying to be nice," Rhonda said, trying to reassure her.
"Where did Clyde go?" Edie asked.
"I don’t know. He looked rushed. Clyde bumped into me as I was coming into the building. He passed me the cream, got in his car with Manley and someone else, and left," Rhonda explained.
"Clyde! Answer me! Why are you helping Edie?" Vicky asked.
"What should I have done? Did you see the way Geneva treated her?" Clyde was getting annoyed with Vicky. She hadn’t stopped hounding him about Geneva and Edie.
"Geneva has an important role in the play, and the scene has already been shot. She needs this!" Vicky said, her voice whiny and thin.
Clyde raised one eyebrow suspiciously. "Why does she need it?" he asked.
"Geneva’s is Xavier North’s girlfriend. If you offend Geneva, then you’re offending him? Do you understand now?" Vicky asked. This was not the only reason Vicky was trying to help Geneva. Vicky didn’t have a lot of friends, and Geneva had helped her several times. Including the dinner that Malloy hosted for the cast. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
Clyde sneers. "I don’t care who her boyfriend is!"
"Clyde, even if you don’t care about Xavier. Geneva was only playing her part in the film. Yes! She may have used a little sarcasm, but she told me to tell you that she wouldn’t do it again. Give her another chance. Please let her come back. Please.....!" Vicky begged and pleaded.
Vicky was from the Herring family, and she was used to getting her own way, but Clyde didn’t care. He wasn’t impressed. "None of what you’re saying matters! I’ve already contacted Wilma. She thinks she can do it," he said, raising his voice. "And no! I will not give her another chance. I don’t have time for this, and that’s final. Do you understand?"
Her eyes widened at his last sentence and horror-filled them as she realized how he humiliated her. "I don’t appreciate your attitude," Vicky snaps, her voice rising sharply.
"Clyde, we grew up together, went to the same schools, the same church, and played together almost every day." Vicky had known what kind of man he was. Then there was a deep silence in the car. He had everything, but he cared about anything—only himself.
Clyde looks at Vicky with a sarcastic grin and says, "Yeah! What’s your point!"
A thought flashed through her mind. She looked at him in wonder, "Tell me the truth! Are you doing all of this for Edie?"
A smirk of self-satisfaction plastered all over his face. "Why would I help her?"
"I know you’re lonely and you’ve been looking for that special someone for some time now. Is that what you want from Edie? Is she the one?" Vicky asked.
"Vicky!" Clyde said sternly. "I have warned you that my personal life is my business. You stay out of it."
Clyde’s tone was so serious that it brought tears to her eyes. She lowered her head for a moment, hesitant to reply. "You’re my fiancé! Why shouldn’t I ask you?"
"That was a joke when we were kids. We’re adults now. I hope you’re not serious?" Clyde looked at Vicky, waiting for her to respond.
"But...Clyde.." Vicky hesitated, unable to answer his question.
"But what?" Clyde said. "You should be calling me, Uncle Clyde!"
Vicky looked at him in disbelief. "What do you mean? Uncle?" she replied.
"Looks like it’s your stop. Get out!" he ordered.
Clyde dropped her off at the entrance to the film base. Vicky watched as his car slowly disappeared from her sight.
