Chapter 297: Chapter 297: Do You Hear Me?
Fabian came rushing straight toward Stuart, and he knocked him to the ground again. He was no match for Stuart. Stuart had strength like a god. He looked at Fabian with knitted brows and wearing an air full of disdain. His cold eyes, full of anger, stared at him.
The crowd gathers around and watches, no one interferes. Everywhere voices were heard gossiping, shouting, and criticizing. "Did you know he was the CEO of the L. N. Group?"
It was at this moment that Stuart came to realize, Fabian no longer had the knife in his hand. He was so weak, and he wasn’t a threat to anybody anymore. Then Fabian tries to get up but collapses onto the ground. His breath is coming in what sounded almost like sobs. "She’ll get what’s coming to her. They all will." He kept saying it over and over again.
Several police cars had just arrived with their lights flashing. The doctors started to walk in the direction of Fabian with two of the security guards. One of the doctors said, "make sure he’s transferred to a secure hospital." The guards grabbed him and escorted him to the police car.
Edie kept a close eye on the situation, and when she saw it was finally over, she ran over to Stuart. Her eyes filled with tears and her body trembling with fear. Edie wanted to make his pain go away, but she knew her touch would only make things worse. "Are you okay? Let’s go inside the hospital and get you checked," she spoke so sweetly to him.
Stuart quickly gathered Edie into his arms. He held her firmly and kissed her. "I’m all right! Don’t worry," he said, trying to reassure her.
Stuart held her close, putting her head against his chest, and she could hear his heartbeat clearly. Edie’s first reaction was to cry, but instead, she got angry. She pushed herself away from Stuart. "What were you thinking? Do you not know how much you mean to me?" she screamed.
Stuart’s mind went over the last words she said to him. His black eyes are staring wonderingly straight down into her face. "Tell me, what would I do if something were to happen to you?" Edie could hear the quiver in his voice.
She hung her head and realized, and she couldn’t answer his question. "Real love knows that there is nothing in the world you would not do for the one you love, and that’s what we tried to do for each other today," Edie explained. "We love each other completely and try to save each other."
Stuart’s fingers touched Edie’s lips, silencing her words, "Edie."
"No," Edie said. "From here on in, no matter what happens, you can’t ever push me away again. Even if it means death."
Stuart wanted to say no. It didn’t matter what happened to him, but he would never let Edie get hurt even if it meant him losing his life. It broke his heart to see the tears in her eyes. He couldn’t say no, and he couldn’t say yes. He stared at her, with his thin lips stuck out in an expression of deep concentration. Stuart nodded, "Whatever happens, we’ll always be together." freēwēbnovel.com
Edie felt relieved and smiled, "I’m going to hold you to your word, so don’t you dare lie to me."
Off in the distance, Donald was watching them. He frowned and clenched his fists. His eyes filled with bitter, unrepressed pain. Then from the corner of his eye, he caught a flash of movement. A glimpse of a man, it was Fabian. He looked horrific. His eyes are glowing with bloodlust. A fierce smile playing on his mouth and his teeth and face were covered in blood.
Donald frowned slightly and took a closer look at him. He noticed something in his hand. Donald shouted, "he’s got a knife. Edie, be careful!" Without even thinking, he ran toward Edie.
Fabian pushed the guards and knocked them to the ground and dashed toward Edie. "I will see that you all go to hell," he shouted.
Edie heard someone calling her name and telling her to run. She turned her head, and it was Donald. It happened so fast, almost instantly. He used his body to block Fabian from hurting her. He stabbed Donald in the chest, and there was blood all over the place. Fabian tried to pull the knife out, but it was stuck in Donald’s flesh.
Fabian nodded and said, "let go of the knife." He drew back his foot and kicked Donald in the ribs. Donald cried out in pain. With every passing second, he was losing more blood, and it was getting harder to breathe, harder to focus on anything.
Before Fabian could do anything else, the police officers grabbed him. He stood up and put his hands behind his back. The officer cuffed him, and they started towards the police van. "You will all die. You’ll see," he shouted.
Edie was horrified. She kneeled down beside Donald and held his hand. Her voice was trembling with fear. "Donald, can you hear me. Please be okay!" Edie begged.
Donald’s gaze met hers, but her voice was quickly fading. His eyes are rolling back in his head as his body goes limp. Edie shook his body, but there was no response. She hugged him and said, "wake up! Don’t let this be the end." She looks at his wound and doesn’t know if he is going to make it. She looks around and sees so much blood then she cries even harder. Edie hugs him tightly and whispers, "It’s going to be okay. I won’t let you die. Do you hear me?"
Donald opened his eyes slowly. He didn’t know if he heard Edie or if it was a dream. The soothing sound of her voice stroked his senses, and he tried to nod as he closed his eyes again.
Edie glanced down at Donald’s pale face and frowned. His breathing sounded quite shallow, and he was very pale. "Where are the doctors? Somebody help him!" she hollered.
"Edie, I’m glad you weren’t hurt. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if something ever happened to you." His voice was faint and weak. Donald gently raised the corner of his lips in a tiny smile.
