Chapter 296: Chapter 296: The Criminal
Donald was devastated when he heard Edie cry out for Stuart. Her words struck him like a thunderbolt. He could feel his heart thumping in his chest and temples. Donald could barely utter a coherent word. And finally, he thought, ’Edie really doesn’t love me anymore. He knew to lose his memory had broken her heart. But for so long, he believed that Edie was only with Stuart to make him jealous.
Donald had always thought they were destined to be together. From the sickening look on his face, the realization was hitting him hard. He felt as though someone had stabbed an icicle into his heart, so sharp and cold. Swallowing past a hard lump in his throat, Donald gathered his thoughts and looked at Edie and Stuart. He wanted Stuart to disappear, but in his heart, he knew that was going to happen.
And suddenly it hit him, a crazy idea. It burst across the dark skies of his mind like a display of fireworks. He walked past Edie and stepped closer to the man. The man panicked and shouted, "Don’t come any closer, stay back! If you take one more step, I’ll kill him."
Donald was angry. "Go ahead," he said.
The man felt disrespected and looked down upon. He became enraged. "Do you think I won’t do it?" His hands are trembling slightly with a mixture of anger and fear.
Edie had never been so frightened in her life. She almost fainted from fear. Her heart almost stopped. She looked at Donald and yelled, "Stop, why are you provoking him? He’ll kill Stuart." Edie turned and looked at the man and pleaded with him. "Please don’t hurt him. I’ll do anything."
The way Edie cried for Stuart, there was something so touching in her voice, and the man asked, "Is that your wife?"
"Yes, it is," Stuart answered.
"Money makes life easier! Rich people get away with more than people who are not rich." The man took a breath and continued. "I had money once, and I gave my wife everything. She was always telling me I was useless and ran away with another man and my money!"
Donald gave the man a contemptuous look and sneered, "If I were your wife, I would have left you too. Look at you and what you’re doing. You’re insane, and your wife knew it. That’s why she left you."
"Shut up! You know nothing about my life. I did everything to please her, and I loved her with all of my heart. Then she falls in love with another man. She is a horrible person and deserves to die. Just like all of you, rich people. You’re all the same."
"Your name is Fabian Lewis, and you’re thirty-eight years old. You are a former contractor and had a fatal work injury on a construction site a year ago. You can no longer work because of your injury. You received a lump sum settlement from workers’ compensation, and your wife left you and took your money. It also says you have psychological problems such as paranoia and schizophrenia. Am I correct?" Donald said as a look of profound satisfaction came over his face.
Donald had grabbed Fabian’s hospital records from one of the doctors and read it word for word. Fabian’s eyes darkened, and he took the knife away from Stuart’s neck and pointed it at Donald.
"How dare you read my files. That is private information. It’s none of your business," Fabian shouted in a rage. freeweɓnovel.cøm
Stuart quickly spun around, and without any hesitation, he hit Fabian with a tirade of punches to the abdomen, chest and then finished with an elbow uppercut. Pain laced through Fabian, and he saw red. His head popped back, but it barely fazed him. That only angered Fabian more. His face twisted to a horrific expression. As he turned his head, a flow of blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. Fabian’s tongue darted out, licking the blood off his lips. He shook his head as his vision went red, and then he felt that horrible rage fill his entire body. His physical strength surprised everyone. Fabian shifted the knife in his hands and prepared to strike Donald, but he was stopped by another hit to the head from Stuart. Fabian staggered back, gasping from the blow.
Stuart squinted his eyes as he looked at Donald. He raised his hand in the air and motioned to Donald. "I don’t want her to see this! Get Edie out of here! It’s too dangerous for her here," he demanded.
Donald nodded his head in agreement. There was nothing he wanted more than to keep Edie close and to protect her from harm. Donald tried to persuade Edie to leave. She was stubborn and determined. There was no way she would leave Stuart. "Edie, he is only trying to keep you safe. Fabian is a maniac. Stuart can take care of himself. It’s you he’s worried about."
Edie agreed, "Okay, but I will only stand back out of Fabian’s view. I want to be able to see Stuart."
Fabian may be paranoid, but he’s not stupid. He realized who had the most influence and who was the most important person between the two men. It was Edie. Fabian smiled, and with a crazy look in his eyes, he said, "You and this other man care so much about this woman. I think I will kill her first. Then you will really know what heartache is!" Fabian turned his head and looked in Edie’s direction. He had an evil look in his eyes. free𝑤ebnovel.com
The thoughts of Fabian hurting Edie infuriated Stuart. His anger began to rise, and his face reddened. He clenched his fists at his sides. "You will not touch her. How dare you try and challenge me!"
Stuart rushed towards Fabian. With all of his strength, he hit Fabian in the mouth, smashing his lips into his teeth. "No, no, no," Fabian pleaded. Then Stuart struck him between the eyes. Fabian fell to the ground. He stumbled when he tried to get up. He staggered up onto his feet, breathing heavily. His chin was wet with blood, and his head was spinning. Fabian spit out blood and raised his head as high as he could. "I’m going to kill you all!" he screamed.
