Chapter 141: Chapter 141: His Questioning
Donald looked at Edie’s face and said slowly, "Edie, you are so proud of yourself. Your apology is of no value to me." Edie was angry too, but now the necklace was in Donald’s hand, and she had to look down at him and say, "Okay, you don’t want me to apologize, but tell me what do you want me to do to get my necklace back."
"Give it back to you? That’s Joanna’s necklace," Donald said deliberately.
"How many times do you want me to say this! It was my necklace, a relic my mom left for me. I have always wondered how it ended up in Joanna’s hands."
Edie was a little upset that Donald didn’t believe her, but why would he without any evidence. There was a vague feeling in Donald’s mind that Edie was telling the truth. He didn’t know why he felt this way, just like he didn’t understand why he felt excited every time he looked at Edie.
This idea came out of nowhere, and it drove him crazy, "Whatever you say, the necklace is in my hands now."
"Well, tell me what you want from me. What can I do to make you give it back to me? I promise I will do anything."
"Anything?" Donald’s eyes narrowed when he heard Edie’s words. For an instant, he had an impulse to ask her to stay with him forever to see if she would agree. The thought was so terrible that he restrained himself.
Donald stared at Edie like a wolf at its prey, "Then I’ll ask you a question."
Edie said, "Okay, ask me."
"You said you had a five-year relationship with me, are you making that up or did it really happen?"
Donald knew he shouldn’t ask, but he needed to know. His memories that kept flashing back were destroying him, and he didn’t know what was or wasn’t real. He knew that he should not see her, should not have taken back the necklace, should not have interrupted the auction, and just let her have the necklace. It would be best for them to have any connection no longer, this would be the best result.
He couldn’t do it, and he wanted to see her, he couldn’t get her out of his head. Even giving away the gift and returning the necklace was just one more reason for him to see her. He could not tell her, and he could not let her see his confusion, so he instead made her hate him.
Donald’s emotions have been stirring inside of him for so long, and now Edie had hoped that he would finally remember their five-year relationship. He stood there, glowering his hatred at Edie, she remained quiet and turned her head to avoid his stare.
How could such a small action have such a huge impact on Donald’s heart? He knew there was something, and he had to find out what it was, "has she not been desperately trying to tell me about the past years? Did she not try to remind him every time that she saw him? Yet, he has only been mean to her, and she never gave up on him. Why has everything changed and so different now?"
She finally looked into his eyes and no longer saw the man she had once known. He was a stranger to her and no longer the kind, caring man that she used to know. Maybe somewhere buried deep in his mind, he could feel nostalgia for the past five years that he left behind.
Donald squinted his eyes and said in a low voice, "Didn’t you hear what I asked you? Is it true?"
He stood there with his hands on his hips and glared at her waiting for her response. She took a deep breath and raised her head slowly to look into his eyes. With a cold tone in her voice, she tried to remain calm, "No, it’s all fake."
Donald’s eyes widened in surprise. He couldn’t believe it, and he must have heard her wrong, "What did you just say?"
"I explained it to you clearly last time. Did you think you would get a different answer if you asked me one more time? Is this what you want to hear? It was all a lie, and we were never together. I made up everything just for the sake of your Hawk Real Estate Co., Ltd heir. Is that what you want to hear? Tell me, what do you want from me? Whether I tell you the truth or tell a lie, what does it matter? The end result is always the same."
There was a sneer in her voice, Donald started breathing harder, and her words had inflamed and angered him even more. "Tell me," he said, "Are you in love with Stuart?" He could see the image of Edie and Stuart standing together as if he was carved into his mind.
He continuously thought about Edie, and the thoughts of her being with another man drove him crazy. Her eyes flickered from his face to the ground, but she nodded decisively and said, "Of course, I love him, or why would I marry him? So you see, I haven’t had a five-year relationship with you at all!" She just continued to lie, and maybe then he may leave her alone.
In Edie’s mind, she told herself, "No, she doesn’t love Stuart; she’s just trying to get Donald to forget about her." Donald was thoroughly offended by her words. As soon as she finished speaking, Donald rushed at her like a wild animal. ƒreewebɳovel.com
He was too fast before Edie even realized what he was doing. She was hit by his strength. Her slender body was slammed into the metal shelf. The cold, hard feeling of the metal frame instantly hurt her back. All the porcelain from the shelves fell onto the floor, and the sound echoed through the basement, making it even more frightening in the once quiet and empty warehouse.
