Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Are Playing with Me?

Before Donald opened his mouth, Edie scolded him, "Donald Lynch, you maniac! Do you think the auction is just a game? Do you think you can do whatever you please? What do you want! Are you playing with me?"

Donald seemed mindless of her nasty attitude, and he spoke in a calm but cold tone, "Why are you asking me this? You will know once you get here."

"You..." His attitude made Edie furious, she wanted to say something more, but Donald didn’t give her a chance and hung up the phone as if he knew she would go. Edie clenched the phone tightly in her hand and hesitated, and she was in a dilemma. Donald had turned into a completely different person, and he was not the heart-warming man she used to know.

He was now a scheming, frightening, and unpredictable man. Recalling what he did to her at the café, she felt a little scared. However, she had to admit, Donald knew how to manipulate people well. Since he knew how vital the necklace was to Edie, threatening her with it was a smart move.

Edie clenched her teeth and made her final decision with a firm look on her face. Stuart did so much to try and get her necklace back. She couldn’t just sit here and wait for Stuart to do everything for her.

Edie adjusted her dress, stood up from her seat, and left the auction hall quietly. She didn’t notice that after she went, the young man at number forty-four turned around. He looked in the direction in which she left, and an unexplainable emotion flashed through his eyes.

The auction hall was lively, with not many people outside. Edie arrived at the underground warehouse shortly after. It was freezing inside because it was located in a basement.

Since Edie was in her sheer evening dress, the coldness gave her goosebumps. The warehouse door was half open with no light inside, and she was surrounded by darkness. Edie put her hand on the doorknob and hesitated.

Was it too inconsiderate of her to come down to the basement without telling Stuart? However, at the thought of getting back her mother’s necklace, Edie deliberately ignored the worries in her mind and gathered her courage again. No matter what terrifying things she would face, she had to enter through the door.

She made a promise to her mother, and she couldn’t let her down. Edie crossed her fingers, worked up her nerve, and pushed open the warehouse door. She walked into the dense darkness, taking each step with caution.

It was too quiet, too cold and too creepy. She asked in the dark, "Donald, are you there?" There was no reply, only dead silence.

The sound of Edie’s high heels echoed in the warehouse, and anxious emerged in her heart. Edie didn’t know where the light switch was, so she turned on the light on her phone. A beam of light lit up in front of her.

Edie wandered around with her phone, discovering many storage racks. On the shelves, there was a delicate china tableware, and every piece looked like a piece of artwork. It was the tableware used at the banquet tonight, and this place seemed to be the kitchen warehouse.

After searching for a long time, Edie still couldn’t find anyone. Edie hesitated as to whether or not she should leave. Then the lights in the warehouse suddenly turned on. Edie had already adapted herself to the darkness, being startled by the sudden light, she turned around with a surprised look on her face.

Donald was standing at the warehouse door with his arms folded, no wonder she couldn’t find him. Edie turned off the light and went straight towards Donald. He looked at her with an unpredictable expression and suddenly closed the door behind him.

Edie didn’t pay attention to his movements and asked fiercely, "Donald, don’t play your tricks on me, where’s the necklace?" Hearing her words, Donald felt a little upset, but he quickly pulled himself together. He didn’t speak and took out a box from behind him.

As Donald opened the box, the light shined on the diamonds, and the necklace gleamed like a sea of stars. Edie’s mother said to her once, every diamond on the necklace was perfectly cut, the unqualified cut diamonds would be discarded. All of this was done to ensure the perfect reflection of light at every angle. freёweɓnovel.com

Mounting the diamonds onto the necklace also took the best handcraft master from Belgium an entire year to complete. Therefore, whether material-wise or handwork wise, there could not possibly be the second Sea of Stars in the entire world.

As Edie caught the sight of the necklace, her expression quickly changed, she reached her hand to grab the box. However, Donald had already predicted her every movement. He closed the box and promptly put it away. Since Edie missed the box, she leaped forward at another attempt to get the necklace.

Donald happily accepted this situation and stepped forward to catch her. The moment Edie fell into his arms, Donald was startled, he felt as if something important came back to him, his heart couldn’t help but tremble. The hug felt like everything to him.

Donald could not control the outbreak of tenderness that he felt in his heart. As he reached his other hand to deepen the hug, Edie quickly pushed him away and backed off to lean against the storage rack behind her.

The action told Donald she didn’t want anything to do with him. Edie’s actions took away his enthusiasm; he was enraged. Donald stood his ground and stared at her, and his dark eyes were brimmed with insanity.

Edie was afraid when she saw the look in Donald’s eyes. Did he really hate her? He had decided to give up and live his life this way, why can’t he let her go. She had done nothing wrong, but she kept suffering from his anger again and again. Had he even considered her feelings?

Edie looked coldly at Donald and tried to understand his recent behavior and said, "Donald, don’t make me so confused. You called me down here. What do you want now? Do I have to get down on my hands and knees and apologize before you let me go?"
