Chapter 577: Chapter 576: Farewell (5)

Bella shook her head with red eyes, turning her gaze away from him.

This was, after all, a rented house. The landlord was already being considerate by allowing them to set up a funeral altar, and naturally wouldn’t agree to let them keep it up for several days.

Bella didn’t insist on such formalities. Besides, neither she nor Aunt Sienna had many friends, and aside from Sharon and the others, no one else attended the funeral.

Bella bought a plot at The West End cemetery, setting up the altar in the morning and laying Aunt Sienna’s ashes to rest in the afternoon.

At The West End cemetery, watching the ashes being buried and the tombstone erected, Bella didn’t shed a single tear.

She didn’t know if it was because she was too heartbroken to cry, or if her tears had simply run dry. Meanwhile, beside her, Ethan was tightly holding her hand, pouting as he wiped his tears.

At some point, a light drizzle began to fall from the sky. After finishing their tasks, the helpers left.

Sharon stepped forward and softly said, "Bella, don’t be sad."

Bea also said, "Bella, my condolences."

"Mm." Bella nodded, "Godmother, Bella, Ms. Flynn, Ms. Young, Senior Quinn, Piggy, it’s raining. You all should go back first. Ethan and I want to spend a little more time with Aunt Sienna."

Sharon and Elaine exchanged a glance and said, "Alright, we’ll go first then. Call us if you need anything, alright?"

Elaine also said, "Bella, rest well these few days. Put work aside for now."

"Okay. Thank you all."

Cynthia gave her a look, "My condolences!"

Judy Zimmerman, with red eyes, hugged Bella, "Bella, you are the strongest."

The group left first, but Archer Quinn and Damian Sinclair stayed put, neither showing any intention of leaving.

Archer spoke first, "Bella, it’s raining, let’s head back."

No one brought an umbrella, and in her condition, she shouldn’t stand in the rain like this.

"I want to stay a bit longer with Aunt Sienna." Bella shook her head, "Senior Quinn, thank you for your help today."

Damian didn’t say anything, taking off his suit jacket and stepping forward to shield her head.

He had received Bella’s call while still in a meeting at the company, learning of Aunt Sienna’s passing.

At that moment, he handed the meeting over to Special Assistant Lawson and drove to the orphanage as fast as he could.

On the way, his mind was filled with thoughts of Bella being heartbroken and crying.

Seeing Damian’s action, Archer’s body momentarily stiffened, the words he originally wanted to say caught in his throat, only speaking after a long pause, "Call me if you need anything."

"Mm, I will." Watching Archer leave, Bella continued, "You should go too."

Now there were just her, Ethan, and Damian left. It was obvious to whom her "you should go too" was directed.

"I’m staying here." Damian said.

Bella lowered her eyes, "But I don’t want to see you right now, could you please leave?" She needed a quiet environment to think about her future.

"You can just ignore me." Damian held up his jacket to shield her from the rain, his tall frame leaning slightly to protect Ethan as well.

He was as domineering as ever, yet that is perhaps exactly why she was so helplessly under his spell. Anything involving him always left her flustered.

Bella laughed self-mockingly, turning her gaze back to Aunt Sienna’s photo on the tombstone, asking, "Is the child that Cecilia Lynch is carrying yours?"
