Chapter 669: This Time, I Will Stay by Your Side
Alberto should have known very well that Christian was trained by him.
As long as he was not willing to talk, there was absolutely no one, and no way to get him to talk.
Besides that, there were plenty of ways to end his life. If he had really wanted to, there were thousands of ways to do it.
Christian tilted his head back to keep the tears from rolling down his face, he looked at the sun in the sky.
The sun was dazzling and bright.
But his mood felt dark and had fallen to its depths. It felt awful and hurt even more when the person you valued the most betrayed you.
"Christian, is this the organization you’re prepared to protect, subjecting yourself to torture and interrogation?" asked Michael.
Michael looked at Christian’s painful expression and said calmly, "While you were thinking about how to protect them with your life, they were thinking about how to kill you to silence you."
"I know what you’re going to say." Christian reached up and wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes, snickering.
This was the first time Wendy had seen Christian in tears.
It was Michael who now saw him in tears again after more than a decade. The last time Michael had seen it was when he had been shipped off abroad.
"You don’t have to say anything else, I will cooperate with the police in all their investigations and tell you everything I know." Christian took a deep breath, and after finishing what he wanted to say, he took one last look at Wendy, and bid her farewell in his heart. "See you, and I think this will be the last time I do see you."
Zen saw Christian get into the car, she braced herself and took a few steps forward.
But before she could walk over, her body gave up and collapsed.
"Christian..." Zen fell to the ground as she tried to grab hold of him. "Christian, goodbye..." her lips twitched slightly. Zen fainted as soon as she said that, unable to hold on for any longer.
Wendy saw Zen fall to the ground and immediately went over to help her, shouting out to her, "Zen..."
However, no matter how loud Wendy shouted, Zen had already passed out.
At that point, Christian, hearing Wendy call out Zen’s name, hesitated for a moment and looked back.
Wendy held onto Zen, her eyes were tightly shut.
Christian was being cuffed, he clenched his fists in regret.
In fact, both Zen and Christian had been unfortunate victims. They ended with nothing; none of what they sowed nor love.
When he had passed by Zen earlier, he saw the confused look in her eyes and heard her call out to him hysterically. However, he hadn’t said a word to her.
All he wished for was that Zen would forget about him.
She was not like him, and perhaps she would be able to have a new future. Falling in love with him had been the biggest mistake of her life.
Without any hesitation, Christian stepped into the car.
Evan Boyle turned and looked at Michael and said, "Christian is in custody, and I’ll be working with the International Narcotics Unit in Rheinsville City for the next few days.
"Christian holds citizenship there and will be subject to the disposition of Rheinsville City criminal law. I will most likely station at Rheinsville City for the time being. What about you guys? I think you should take Ms. Zen to the hospital first."
Michael nodded. By now, Michael had instructed his men to carry Zen to the car, and Wendy followed.
"Alright then I will make a move, I have also prepared a cop and car for you guys, just in case." Evan Boyle reached out and patted Michael’s shoulder with a smile on his face, "This thing is finally about to be settled, and when I get back home, we’re going to have a drink."
"Let’s paint the town red." Michael nodded with a smile.
"Let’s paint the town red." Evan echoed with a great smile on his face and got into the car.
...
The restaurant that was surrounded by people a moment ago, was gone in the blink of an eye.
Evan took Christian and headed for the heliport.
Michael on other hand took Wendy and Zen to the nearest hospital.
As soon as Zen was admitted to the emergency room, Michael worriedly took Wendy’s hand and said as he walked, "Wendy, you need a full checkup."
Wendy was about to ask him to check on his injuries. He was wounded quite badly when he dueled Christian. But Michael beat her to it.
"I don’t need a checkup, most of my injuries are cuts and bruises, I will just attend to it later on. You are the one who needs a thorough check, all of your injuries were quite serious."
Wendy had sustained an injury to her forehead and her hand was scratched, but she hadn’t felt any pain or discomfort otherwise.
"No, you have to go get checked," Michael insisted, deeply concerned for Wendy.
Michael was concerned about her condition and he said, "You have quite some wounds on you, what if there are some other complications. I will not allow anything to happen to you or the kids."
While Michael was speaking he shifted his attention to Wendy’s belly, he caressed her belly and said, "Is the baby behaving?"
Wendy smiled when she heard what Michael said, "It has only been four months, he can’t decide if he wants to be good or bad yet."
"The last time when you were expecting Leah and Jake, I did not do my job as a husband by being there for you. This time around I am going to be by your side till our baby is born." Michael’s tone was full of love and he couldn’t wait to see the baby.
"By my side 24/7?" Wendy teased Michael, "Even when I am in the toilet?"
"I could wait for you outside the toilet, of course, if you don’t mind I can be by your side while you do your thing." Michael was trying to be cheeky, "Not like it would be the first time I saw it, right?"
Wendy couldn’t believe that Michael was still in the mood for jokes, her face blushed, "Michael." freewēbnoveℓ.com
Michael knew that Wendy was shy, so he did not continue to tease her in the hospital. He cleared his throat and said, "I am being serious now, you should get a checkup after attending to your wounds."
"Alright," said Wendy. She finally agreed to it, "Let’s get our wounds attended to first, before heading for a checkup."
Their wounds were attended to by the medical personnel while they were talking.
Nolvania was a small country and their medical conditions were not particularly good.
Afterward, they treated their wounds and ran the tests, but the results were unavailable until the next day.
Wendy and Michael then returned to the front of the emergency room door. Zen hadn’t come out as yet.
Wendy looked at the closed door and sighed, "It’s all my fault, if only I hadn’t told Zen about the fake sickness last night, she wouldn’t have gone to take a cold shower in the middle of the night and gotten high fever."
Michael reached out and held Wendy in his arms, comforting her, "Don’t blame yourself, it had nothing to do with you, it was all Christian’s fault, and the good news is that it’s all over now."
Wendy sighed slightly and couldn’t help but worry about Zen.
"The last time Zen faced death, she was able to survive, and this time, it will certainly be the same." Michael reassured Wendy once again.
Wendy reached back and hugged Michael, closed her eyes, the familiar embrace and familiar smell, slowly calmed her down. She gave a soft muffled yes to keep Michael from worrying about her.
...
As time passed by, they waited at the emergency room door. They had all been waiting for it to open, but it was Todd who appeared before them instead.
"Corrine..." Todd panted, running up to Wendy, his forehead was covered in sweat.
He saw the bandages on Wendy’s forehead and asked worriedly, "Are you hurt?"
Wendy smiled lightly and said, "I’m fine, it was just a minor injury."
Todd shifted his attention from Wendy towards Michael, seeing that he had also suffered injuries he asked, "Mr. Lucas was injured too?"
"I’m fine, it was also just a minor injury," Michael echoed Wendy’s answer.
Todd was a little embarrassed for a moment. The relationship between the three of them had become a bit complicated.
At first, he had thought that there would no longer be any interaction between the three of them. After Wendy left for Rheinsville City, they probably wouldn’t see each other again either.
But, Wendy was unexpectedly kidnapped by Christian and taken to Rheinsville City.
This incident once again restored the connection between them. However, he was not longing for a relationship with Wendy anymore.
Todd knew for a fact that Michael too loved Wendy very much. In fact, he should shower them with his sincerest blessing.
Todd scratched his head, he felt embarrassed and somewhat at a loss for words, he explained, "Well, I called Mr. York, and he told me that you were at the hospital."
"I know," Michael said. He noticed Todd’s embarrassment but nodded slightly, and said, "Thank you for your help on this one."
"You’re welcome," Todd replied.
He laughed and said, "Corrine and I were also..." Todd paused mid-sentence, then immediately added, "Corrine and I were also friends, provided that you guys would still consider me as a friend."
Two days earlier, Todd and Michael had split up to look for Wendy, which was why Todd came to Nashville City much later than them.
Michael put his arm around Wendy’s shoulder, looked at her, and said, "Todd was such a great help, he used all the resources that he had in order to help me locate you."
Wendy still remembered the memories that she shared with Todd and had some mixed emotions about him. Their years of friendship still counted and he had done so much to locate her, Todd deserved a big thank you from her.
Wendy stood before Todd and bowed, "Thank you, Todd."
Todd didn’t expect Wendy to thank him so formally, which made him a little embarrassed. He scratched his head, seeming a little uncomfortable, "It was really nothing, as long as you are willing to forgive all of my previous wrongdoings."
Todd was referring to the time when Wendy was about to return to Rheinsville City and he had tried to force her into a relationship while drunk. Fortunately, nothing really happened and no damage was done.
Wendy shook her head and said, "Let bygones be bygones, and let’s not bring it up ever again."
"Okay, we shall not bring it up ever again" Todd nodded in relief.
Soon, the door to the emergency room opened. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
Wendy immediately stepped forward and asked anxiously, "How was it, doctor?"
"The patient suffered multiple serious injuries, but the good news was that none of them damaged anything vital, she is safe for now. But..." the doctor paused and continued, "Our hospital has limited medical care and it would be best to transfer the patient to a larger hospital in Rheinsville City for treatment."
"Okay, we will proceed with the transfer but when would be the earliest to do so?"
asked Wendy.
"I’m afraid that you can’t do this today as the patient has just finished surgery, it hasto wait until tomorrow," said the doctor.
