Chapter 670: This Is an Apology Meant for Them
Zen was not in a life-threatening condition, which was a great thing for Wendy. As long as it was not life-threatening.
Wendy quickly nodded her head and thanked the doctor.
"It is my duty, you are welcome." The doctor nodded.
Wendy turned around, looked at Michael, and said, "Do you have anything urgent that you needed to attend to? In Zen’s case, I plan to stay here with her and then accompany her tomorrow for her transfer to Rheinsville City."
Michael was about to say something when his phone rang. When he looked at the caller ID, it was a call from Mrs. Lucas. Grandmother was calling at this time, supposedly to ask about Wendy’s condition.
Michael picked up the phone.
On the other end was Mrs. Lucas’ voice, "Michael, how is the situation there?"
"Grandmother, Wendy has been rescued and is with me now," said Michael.
"Please put Wendy on the phone," said Mrs. Lucas. She spoke with excitement and enthusiasm.
Michael immediately gave the phone to Wendy, "Grandmother said she wanted to talk to you."
Wendy picked up the phone and greeted her, "Grandmother..."
"Wendy, are you okay? That’s good..." Mrs. Lucas kept repeating to herself.
She was finally relieved having heard Wendy’s voice.
"When are you guys coming back? Leah is still not better and has been asking for her Daddy and Mommy." Mrs. Lucas sighed thinking of Leah.
"What’s wrong with Leah?" Wendy could not recall anything regarding her two children, but when she heard their names, she became nervous all of a sudden.
She had dreamt before about a pair of twins, a brother and a sister. She also knew that she and Michael had twins. So, when Wendy heard the name Leah, she was able to guess that she was her daughter.
"Leah she..." Mrs. Lucas realized that Michael probably hadn’t told Wendy about Leah and Jake yet and said, "Hey...let Michael tell you in detail. If you have nothing else to do, come back as soon as you can."
Wendy’s eyes immediately turned to Michael and replied, "Okay, we’ll be back soon."
After Wendy hung up the phone, she didn’t ask Michael, but asked the doctor, "Can we transfer Zen to Lake City? Lake City has a lot of good hospitals, too."
"Lake City?" The doctor frowned and asked, "Lake City in Zeilheim City?
"Right." Wendy nodded.
"Zeilheim City is too far away, and the patient is in no condition to travel long distances. Rheinsville City is neighbor to Nashville City, and a transfer to a hospital there, which is three or four hours away, is the best option for the patient at this time." The doctor advised.
Wendy had wanted to transfer Zen to Lake City so they could go back together. It was also convenient to look after Zen if she returned to their place. But if Zen can’t be transferred, that’s more of a problem.
Something had happened to Leah, too, and although Wendy didn’t know what it was,Mrs. Lucas’ tone over the call made it seem major.
Todd heard what Wendy asked the doctor and volunteered, "Corrine, you guys should head back, I’ll handle Zen from here." ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
"Thanks..." said Wendy, "Please help us look after Zen."
"It’s okay, don’t you worry. You should head back now, I’ll send Zen to Rheinsville City when she’s able to be transferred tomorrow," said Todd.
...
After Zen’s situation was taken care of, Wendy handed the phone back to Michael and said, "We’ll be right back."
Reaching for his phone, Michael thought of something and, as he walked, he dialed a number.
Meanwhile, Evan’s phone rang. He had just escorted Christian off the plane and reached Rheinsville City. When he saw Michael’s call, Evan didn’t hesitate to pick up the phone.
"Evan, is Christian with you now?" Michael’s tone carried some urgency.
Evan glanced at Christian and said, "He’s beside me, what’s wrong?"
"Put him on the phone," said Michael.
Evan immediately walked over to Christian and handed him the phone, "Michael is on phone."
Christian heard this and frowned. He still picked up the phone regardless.
"Christian, the medicine in Yvonne’s hand, did you give it to her? Do you have any more antidotes with you?" Michael asked anxiously.
He had dueled with Christian earlier and then taken Zen and Wendy to the hospital.
He had been so busy that he had almost forgotten about it.
"I gave it to Yvonne, but I don’t have the antidote with me," answered Christian.
"You gave it to her, so how could you not have the antidote?" Michael did not believe it, he gripped the phone tightly, and said anxiously, "Christian, no matter the grudge between us, the children are innocent, I hope you can give me the antidote."
"The children are innocent?" Christian snorted, "How come none of you thought I was innocent when I was a kid too?"
Michael knew that Christian hated him. Taking a deep breath, he lowered his tone for Leah and Jake’s sake, "Christian I am begging you, just give me the antidote."
"I don’t have the antidote." Christian said coldly, "When I first gave Yvonne that poison, I wanted you to make a choice. So you would have to choose who to live with and watch the other die in front of you so that you would spend the rest of your life in pain and regret."
"Christian, what will it take for you to give me the antidote?" Michael pleaded, "If what you want is my life, then use my life in exchange for the antidote, will you?"
"Oh..." Christian couldn’t help but snicker, "Michael, what I wanted was never your life. What I wanted, was to win." Christian had come to a point where there was no need for him to lie anymore.
His goal all these years had always been to win against Michael and prove to everyone that he was not lesser than Michael. He could then be part of the Lucas family and treated as a true Lucas descendant.
If he had simply wanted to escape, or wanted Michael’s life, there were many ways he could have done it. Even if he had held Wendy hostage, he could have left Nolvania.
But Christian had nothing left and even lost the duel to Michael.
What was the point in escaping?
"Even if you don’t have the antidote, who formulated the poison? Tell me who it is, and I will go to that person, they must be able to create the antidote." Michael asked, hoping for another way out.
"I’m sorry, but I’ve already killed that person," said Christian.
"Killed? How is that possible?" Michael’s voice filled with despair.
"As I said, my purpose in formulating this poison in the first place was to get Yvonne to poison them so that you could only choose to save one and watch the other child die. Michael, do you think I’m a kind-hearted person? And that would leave you with a way out?" said Christian.
...
Christian was telling the truth, he wasn’t lying.
He had used Yvonne as a pawn to put Michael in a difficult situation. He was intent on making him regret his whole life with no way of turning back.
At first, he had thought he would be delighted when Michael fell into difficulty.
However, he regretted it now.
Christian had met Leah and Jake, they were in fact adorable, well-behaved, and understanding children.
Indeed, the children were innocent.
No matter how deep the feud between Christian and Michael ran, it should not have spilled over to the two children by any means. It was a pity that Christian had never thought of that before.
Before, he would only have thought about how to make Michael’s life difficult and turn his life into a living hell. Now that he had nothing left to lose, and even lost to Michael in a duel, he saw through it.
He would never win against Michael in this lifetime. But he would like to go up against Michael in his next life.
Forget it, in the next life, it would be better if he was not Michael’s half-brother, they would be better off as total strangers.
He finally saw through it, but it was too late to regret it now.
Now all hope was on Milo’s research team, that they will be able to develop the antidote before the poison took effect.
If everything fails, one of the kids will die.
"Christian!" Michael was still on the other side of the phone and shouted his name sternly, "I beg you, please give me the antidote, I can’t bear to..."
Before Michael could finish, Christian held the phone tight, took a deep breath, and said, "I’m sorry."
"I’m sorry," the unannounced apology stunned Michael for a moment. "What do you mean you are sorry?" Michael immediately asked, "Do you have the antidote but won’t hand it over, is that why you’re sorry? Or did you kill them?"
"This is an apology for someone else," said Christian. "It is for the kids." He hung up the phone after saying it.
He indeed owed the two kids an apology. Christian then returned the phone to Evan, he looked at him in despair and said, "Let’s go."
During this time, Michael, Wendy, and Mr. York were in the car.
There was a beep when the phone hung up, and Michael hurriedly continued to call Evan back.
This time around, Evan picked it up.
"Evan, please pass the phone to Christian, let him..." Before Michael could finish his sentence, Christian interrupted Evan’s call and said, "Tell him that I do not have the antidote. Instead of wasting time on me, why doesn’t he find someone to come up with the antidote."
Michael on the other side of the phone heard what Christian had just said and slammed the phone onto the ground angrily.
"Mr. Lucas, Sir, where should we head to?" the driver asked.
Looking at Michael’s current state, Wendy took a deep breath and instructed the driver, "Take us to the heliport, we have to get back to Lake City immediately."
"Yes," answered the driver.
Wendy saw Michael hold his head, stressed and in disbelief. She put her hand on his shoulder to calm him down and asked, "Michael tell me, what happened?"
Wendy did know what was happening in Lake City. Christian had told her what she knew. But Wendy had no idea whether Christian had been telling the truth or not.
Michael raised his head and looked at Wendy with tears in his eyes, he tried to tell her but he had no idea where to start.
How was he going to tell her that he hadn’t taken care of their children, that he hadn’t done his job as a father?
