Chapter 641: Looks Like a Call For Help
"I don’t love you, so what’s the point of me sleeping with you for a night?" Michael asked. "Is that what you really want?"
To his surprise, Yvonne actually smiled and nodded her head. "Of course that is what I want. This has been my dream all these years. Michael, I love you so much. It won’t be too much to ask for you to do this for me, right?"
"Then you can dream on!" Michael rejected Yvonne’s request directly. "I can agree to your other two conditions. If you have any other condition, you can raise it up."
"That’s too bad. These are my only three conditions. I’m not going to change any of it," Yvonne insisted, showing no intention of changing her mind.
"Yvonne, till now, I am not even sure whether you have the antidote. Why don’t you show it to me first?" Michael decided to change tactics after seeing her determined look.
Unfortunately, Yvonne was not so dumb. She replied, "Don’t try to trick me. If I show you the antidote now, you will surely snatch it. Then what else do I have left to negotiate with you?"
"You obviously don’t have the antidote!" Michael shouted. "If you really have it, you would have shown it to me long ago. Why go through all this torture before you try to negotiate with me?"
"I didn’t show it to you because I wanted to see who you would choose to save. I did have the thought of dying together. But I have overestimated my ability to endure the pain. And obviously, I have underestimated your level of cruelty." She already thought of her explanation. She believed what she said was convincing enough.
Noticing his silence, Yvonne continued, "Michael, all you need to do is to sleep with me for a night and help me achieve my dream. I will then save your child. One night for one life. The deal is very worth it.
After today, I don’t care if I die. I have no more regrets. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
But if your child dies because of your selfishness, you will regret it for the rest of your life.
Besides, if Wendy manages to come back unscathed, do you think she will forgive you if she knows that you are the one who is responsible for your child’s death?"
Michael was indeed worried for his two children. He was also concerned that Wendy would be angry with him.
All these happened because he didn’t do his job and protect them.
He closed his eyes. The nightmares that he had been having resurfaced in his mind.
He couldn’t let anything happen to Jake.
He must get the antidote no matter what.
But he knew he won’t be able to face Wendy if he agreed to Yvonne’s third condition.
He really didn’t want to take this route.
He couldn’t bear to think of what would happen when he met Wendy again.
But if he refused and Yvonne really had the antidote, then what?
He would surely regret it for the rest of his life.
Yvonne’s condition really put him in a dilemma.
"So, Michael, have you decided?" Yvonne asked provokingly. She wanted to put pressure on him to decide.
"I..." Michael was at a loss for what to do.
Jake had been listening to the conversation between Michael and Yvonne. He reached out to pull Michael’s sleeve. With a serious look, he said to his father, "You cannot agree to her condition. She is obviously lying. She doesn’t have the antidote."
"But what if she does?" Michael was well aware of that fact but he just couldn’t risk it with Jake’s life.
"The possibility is slim," Jake exclaimed. "Are you going to risk your happiness with Mummy just for this what-if? This doesn’t just affect both Mummy and you. How do you expect me to face you in the future if you agree?"
...
"I..." Jake’s reply made it even harder for him to decide.
Yvonne chipped in immediately, "Of course he will say this now. But think about it. If he really dies, wouldn’t he blame and hate you?"
"Shut up!" Jake might be young but he had a way of seeing through people.
He turned and stared at Yvonne. With a chilling voice, he said to her, "If you really have the antidote, you would have taken it out long ago. What you are doing now is just to manipulate him with his guilt to achieve your own objective."
Before Yvonne could respond, he turned back to Michael. He saw the struggle on Michael’s face and continued, "Before we came here, I’ve already warned you not to be led along by her. Looks like you are still getting tricked by her."
"But..."
Michael was mid-sentence and Jake interrupted him, "What are you afraid of? Is it really what she said? That I will hate you and Mummy will hate you too?
Then I can tell you right now. I don’t know if Mummy will hate you.
But I will surely hate you for being so dumb to be manipulated by her!
We don’t even know if she really has the antidote. Even if she has it, all you need to do is to send people to search for it.
You can get them to track where she had been to in Lake City.
If this antidote exists, you will surely be able to find it sooner or later.
After all, she is easily recognizable. It wouldn’t be so convenient for her to go many places so her tracks can surely be easily retraced.
Besides, isn’t Uncle Milo also working on the antidote?
There is another half a month before the poison will take effect in Aunty Zess and me. I believe Uncle Milo will be able to come up with the antidote before then.
You are also very aware of this fact. The reason why Yvonne is talking about the antidote now is that she cannot bear the torture from the past few days.
All she wanted is to be with you all these years. Now that she has a chance to stop the torture and achieve her aim, why wouldn’t she use it?
Even if you find out later that she is lying, what does she have to lose? She would have gotten what she wants already.
Why are you walking into her trap even though you know what is on her mind?"
Indeed, Michael was well aware of all these.
But he was, after all, a father.
When a father saw his child in danger, even if there was only a slight hope, as a father, he couldn’t just give up.
Jake saw the struggle on Michael’s face again so he pressed on, "Look at her now.
She has injuries all over her. Even if you agree to sleep with her tonight, I think she will claim that her body is still not well enough and insist that you sleep with her again. And she will only give you the antidote when you have fulfilled her condition."
What Jake said caused Yvonne’s eyes to subconsciously sparkle.
This was exactly what she planned to say.
There was nothing she could do now with this injured body.
"Michael, you have to be the one making the decision. Since I am already like this, it is no longer important if I live or die. As long as you don’t regret it in the future, you can do whatever you like." Yvonne purposely made these comments.
Jake had said whatever he wanted to say.
The decision still had to be made by Michael himself.
He kept quiet after that.
There was silence in the room, as though everyone was waiting for Michael’s answer.
Michael was in a dilemma. What should he do?
Leah still hadn’t found the right bone marrow donor.
And if something happened to Jake now, he couldn’t take it and would never be able to forgive himself.
But...
Just as he was struggling, his phone rang.
He took out his phone and saw that it was an unknown number.
And it was a Rheinsville City number.
...
Michael frowned when he saw the number. An unknown number from Rheinsville City? His first reaction was to think that it concerned Wendy.
He picked up the call immediately.
Once the call got through, there was a male voice on the other line, "Hello..."
The person on the line was holding on to a feedback form that had Michael’s number and a message written on it. He was thinking of how to explain the situation.
"Hello, who is that on the line?" Michael was a little disappointed when he heard a male voice. He was hoping that it was Wendy who called him.
"I am calling from Evergreen Fashion Store..." The man paused for a while before continuing, "Actually this was what happened. We were consolidating our feedback forms and we saw that someone had written your number and a message on it. This was what it said: Please call this number and tell the person that Stewart is here. Do you know what it means? If you don’t, I am so sorry..."
Michael’s breath was slowing down before the caller finished his sentence. It was as though he was afraid to frighten the caller with his heavy breathing.
"Can you repeat yourself?" Michael asked to confirm again.
"Oh..." The man on the line noticed the strange quality of Michael’s tone, and he wasn’t sure if it was a good or bad thing. He repeated, "While consolidating our feedback forms, we found your number and message written on one of them. It looks like a call for help. If you know what is going on, that’s great. But if you don’t, I guess this is just a prank."
Michael was now very certain that it was Wendy who wrote the note. She must have found a chance to do so. Suddenly, he felt hope. This was the first time he had received any news of Wendy since she was taken away by Christian. Even if it was just a message, at least he knew she was still alive.
The caller didn’t hear any response from Michael and thought that someone had played a trick on him. So he said, "Sorry to disturb you, sir."
"Not at all," Michael immediately responded. "Can you describe what exactly happened?"
"Sorry, I wasn’t on duty that day. I only saw this when I was putting together the feedback forms," the caller explained.
"Then do you know when this message was written?" Michael asked again.
"I will have to check with the person on duty or go through the surveillance footage.
But we consolidate our feedback forms once a week so it’s likely the message was written a few days ago."
Michael immediately responded, "Then can I trouble you to send me the security footage of that day and the address of your shop? And please provide me your bank account details. I will transfer ten million dollars to you. If I can find the person, I will give you an even greater reward."
The shop assistant’s eyes widened when he heard ten million dollars. He initially hesitated to make the call. After all, it was just a random number on a feedback form. No one would care if he had ignored it. Now, he was very glad he had made the call.
"Please send me the security footage as soon as you can," Michael repeated as there was no response from the caller.
The shop assistant was now certain that he didn’t imagine the comment. So he nodded furiously as he replied, "I will do it right now. Please give me your email address and I will send it over at the soonest."
