Chapter 642: Don’t Get Happy Too Early
"Thank you. I will be waiting," Michael said. "By the way, I’m going to send you a photo. It might be faster for you to locate the footage with the picture."
Michael thought the shop assistant might not know who Wendy was.
Sending him a photo might speed up the process.
"Alright."
After the call ended, Michael looked through the photo gallery in his phone for a picture of Wendy and sent it over. Then, he waited excitedly for the surveillance footage to be sent over.
Meanwhile, the shop assistant was just beginning to calm down after hearing about the ten million dollars. He thought to himself, could this all just be a prank? Surely it couldn’t be that simple. I simply made a call and I got ten million dollars just like that?
But he thought again. Since he didn’t have to do much except to send over the surveillance footage, surely that guy wouldn’t be able to cheat him or get anything out of him.
After thinking for a while, he decided to send over his bank account number. He wanted to find out if that guy would really transfer the money to him.
Michael frowned when the text came through. But he gave Mr. York a call anyway and told him to transfer ten million dollars to the account number.
Jake walked over and looked up, "What happened?"
Staring into Jake’s eyes, there was hope and joy on Michael’s face for the first time in a long while. He bent down and hugged Jake. He told him excitedly, "There’s news about your mommy."
Jake immediately asked, "Where is Mommy now?"
"I don’t know yet, but it was a shop assistant that called earlier. He said that someone wrote my number and a message that Stewart was there on a feedback form. That must surely be from your mommy. As long as we follow this clue, I’m sure we will find her soon."
Michael continued happily, "I am going to Rheinsville City now. I will bring Mommy home."
After saying that, Michael’s smile faded a little and scowled again.
"Don’t worry about us. I will take good care of Leah," Jake assured him. Jake knew Michael was worried about the two of them.
"But..."
Jake cut in before he could finish, "Why do you have so many buts? You are not a doctor. Will the poison clear up with you being here? Or can Leah recover because you stayed? Now that you have news about Mommy, you must go and get her personally. She needs you more than we need you now.
"Don’t worry, I will take care of things in Lake City. We will be still be alive and well when you come back."
Michael looked at his smart and sensible son. He reached out to stroke his head.
Jake pushed his hand away and said, "Don’t touch my head!" Only Mommy was allowed to touch his head.
Michael withdrew his hand and nodded seriously, "Alright, I will set off to look for Mommy now."
Yvonne heard what Michael said. Her eyes widened in disbelief. She asked, "How is this possible? Wendy Stewart actually left a note? Christian Lucas actually allowed her to do such a thing?"
Michael stopped short at Yvonne’s comment.
Jake pulled on his shirt again and told him sternly, "Don’t listen to her. It’s more important to save Mommy."
Michael had actually lost hope before this. But that phone call had renewed his hopes. He took a deep breath and made a solemn promise to Jake, "Yes, I will do just that."
Turning to the doctor next to them, he instructed, "There is no need to keep her alive anymore. Do what you need to do."
...
Michael had previously been considering whether to agree to Yonina’s conditions, as he was too hopeless.
Therefore, even though he was afraid of that slight possibility, even though he knew that Yonina was lying to him, he wanted to obtain an antidote for Wendy.
Because he could not bear the loss of his wife and having something happen to his children.
A person like Christian could do anything Michael did not dare to imagine at all.
Hence, everyone whom he saved would count.
But now, he knew that Wendy was still alive.
And so, he would not agree to such conditions from Yonina.
He could definitely save Wendy, and the two children would be safe as well.
"Michael, Michael, could you really not care about whether your child would live?"
Hearing Michael’s words, Yonina sank to the ground hopelessly.
Still, Michael and Jake did not turn to look at her again.
Yonina did not have the antidote.
She could not bear all this torture anymore, thus wanted to get Michael before she died.
Anyway, she was going to die sooner or later. She would rather fight for a chance for herself.
However, when Michael was about to agree, a problem had arisen because of a call.
Yonina was not expecting that Wendy, in Christian’s hands, had still managed to send out a signal for help. freёweɓnovel.com
She had done so much, even put her life on the line, but still had not gained anything in the end.
"Michael!" Yonina knew that she was not going to live for long. She yelled at Michael’s silhouette as loud as she could, "I curse you. I curse Wendy and Leah and Jake. I curse the rest of your lives and your following lives. Y’all won’t die a peaceful death!"
Hearing Yonina’s words, Michael turned his head with vicious eyes.
Seeing Michael turn back, Yonina let out a faint laugh.
Michael instructed the people around, "Don’t let her die. Torture her. Let her wish she was dead! Let her regret these things she has said today, regret living in this world!"
"Yes, Sir!" the lead bodyguard replied obediently.
The tactic of making someone wish they were dead was too prevalent over here.
After saying these things, Michael no longer looked at Yonina and left the camp.
The moment he went out, Michael instantly called Mr. York to ask him to arrange for a helicopter.
He wanted to personally go to Rheinsville City.
Upon having everything arranged, Michael looked at Jake’s little face and said, "I’ll be going to the airport straight. Are you okay with going back alone?"
"You underestimate me," Jake said. "Don’t worry and go. I’ll tell them over at Grandmother and Great-grandmother’s."
Michael nodded sternly and initially wanted to reach out to caress his head.
But thinking about Jake’s proud look, Michael withdrew his hand mid-air.
The car sped to the private airport.
Once he got off the car, Mr. York was already waiting for him.
Seeing Michael, Mr. York immediately walked up and said, "Mr. Lucas, it’s already prepared. We can leave immediately. There are still around 100 deployable top-tier bodyguards. They will be behind us."
"Mm." Michael nodded.
Turning back and looking at Jake, Michael bid farewell to him, "Take care of yourself and your sister. I won’t be gone for long."
Jake did not say anything.
Still, when Michael turned to walk toward the helicopter with Mr. York, Jake waved at them.
It was as if he was bidding farewell to Michael.
He said softly, "You and Mommy must come back safely..."
...
Michael got on the helicopter.
When the helicopter had started to take off, Michael called Todd.
The flight would take around 10 hours. Michael’s phone signal would not be stable.
He first had to tell Todd clearly about the matter, so they would be able to meet up when he arrived in Rheinsville City and look for Wendy.
The call got through quickly.
"Todd, I’ve gotten a call regarding Wendy. I’m going to Rheinsville City immediately.
Gather your men at your side. We’ll go look for Wendy together," Michael said briefly.
"Got news about Corrine?" Hearing what Michael had said over the phone, Todd was stirred.
"Yes. I’ll send you an address. Go and check the general situation over there immediately," Michael said.
"Alright. I’ll go personally."
After a brief conversation, Michael hung up then sent the address to Todd.
Michael sighed. He tried to calm himself.
He was hopeful, believing that he would quickly find Wendy.
After 10 hours of flight, the plane finally landed.
The moment Michael got off, he saw Todd who came forward to receive him.
Currently, it was 4 AM in Rheinsville City.
The sky was still dark.
"How’s it? Have you checked the general situation?" Michael immediately asked, walking to Todd’s side.
"Get in the car first. I’ll tell you everything." Todd’s car was parked near. Looking at Michael, he gestured for him to get in the car.
Michael and Todd sat at the back.
Todd took out a laptop, passed it to Michael, and said, "This is the surveillance footage I got when I went to the shop. It’s indeed written by Corrine."
Michael took the laptop and looked at the footage on it carefully.
In the footage, Christian and Wendy entered the clothing shop together.
Under the recommendation by the salesperson, Wendy took the clothing and entered the changing room.
The clip was clear, enough to tell that it was his wife, Wendy.
Seeing that Michael had finished watching the surveillance, Todd said, "Look at the picture behind. There’s the line that Corrine had written. Judging by the handwriting, it’s indeed Corrine’s."
Michael did as Todd said and indeed saw the phone number written by Wendy and the words.
Michael took a deep breath, his eyes full of hope. "It’s really Wendy."
"Don’t get happy too early..." Todd heaved a sigh and said, "Although it’s indeed Corrine, this surveillance was from five days ago. Within that period, it’s still hard to say whether Corrine is still in this city or whether she has been brought by Christian to other places."
Todd’s words made the smile on Michael’s face fade in an instant.
"As long as she’s still alive, we will definitely be able to find her." Michael’s expression became a lot sterner as he asked, "How many men do you have?"
"Not many. You know that I’m a designer. I can only hire bodyguards." Todd continued, "Although I’ve borrowed some manpower from friends, it’s still not much."
"It’s okay. There are a few hundred men that I’ve previously allocated to you. I’ve also brought around 100 bodyguards." As Michael spoke, he suddenly thought of something and immediately took out his phone.
He immediately called Evan Boyle.
