Chapter 639: She Didn’t Walk Away, She Ran

Winnie bit down hard on Anthony’s arm with no intention of letting go. Being held by the bouncers, Anthony was unable to push her away.

He was in unbearable pain. He shouted, "Are you crazy? Why are you biting me?"

Anthony couldn’t get a good look at Winnie as she had her head down. He thought it was Michael who had arranged for someone to bite him. So he screamed at him, "Michael, you idiot! You actually got someone to bite your father! I am your father, mind you! You brought me to the hospital just so that someone can bite me? I shouldn’t have let you come into this world!"

Michael didn’t plan to bother with Anthony initially. All he wanted was for him to come here to do the bone marrow compatibility test.

But hearing what Anthony said, he got angry and retorted, "That’s right! You shouldn’t have let me come into this world. You should never have married my mother too! Look at yourself now. What have you become? Wasting all your time with your mistress! You don’t even care about your family.

"My mother went crazy because of you. You didn’t even bother to ask about her. freewёbnoνel.com

Anthony Lucas, if I had a choice, I would never want to be your son. This is my greatest shame in life!"

Hearing Michael’s venomous retort, Anthony got so mad that his entire being shook.

But because of the pain in his arm, he couldn’t continue to argue with him. He had used up all his energy in his struggle to break free from Winnie.

Unfortunately, the more he struggled, the harder Winnie bit. There was no way she was letting go.

Michael saw this and told the bodyguards, "You’d better hold onto him properly. If he gets away, all of you will be fired!"

This comment got the attention of all the bodyguards. They held Anthony even tighter. Anthony couldn’t move at all so he could only stand and get bitten.

Leah was frightened by the scene unfolding before her. Jake quickly covered her eyes. There were so many people in the ward but no one came to Anthony’s aid.

Winnie finally decided to let Anthony go. She loosened her bite on him.

But only after she had let go of Anthony did they realize that she had bitten off a chunk of his flesh. Winnie spat the flesh out on the floor and her mouth was filled with blood.

She stared at Anthony with crazed eyes and reached out to scratch his face. She shouted angrily, "Go to hell, Anthony Lucas! You are such a jerk! Go to hell! Go to hell!"

Winnie’s mental state might not be stable. She couldn’t remember many people and sometimes her memories could be jumbled up. But she would never forget Anthony.

The moment she heard his voice, she knew it was him.

"Jerk! Idiot! Go to hell!" Winnie was ranting away. At the same time, Anthony was wailing in pain. But because he was being restrained, there was nothing much he could do.

When Winnie was finally exhausted, she stopped. By then, Anthony’s face had been scratched all over. He was in a lot of extreme pain. He swallowed as the pain washed over him. He was too drained to even utter a sound.

He looked at the woman standing in front of him, swallowed again, and said, "Crazy woman, why are you not dead yet?"

Winnie got even more agitated when she heard that comment. She ran back into the ward and seemed to be looking for something. After a while, she came back with a fruit knife. Michael realized that things had gotten out of hand. So he instructed the bodyguards, "Snatch the knife away from her."

Anthony had not done the compatibility test. If his bone marrow was a match, it would be a disaster if he were dead.

...

"Why did you snatch my knife away?" Winnie saw that her knife was taken and started to wail loudly. She pulled her hair as she screamed, "Let me kill him! He abandoned his wife! He is an ungrateful man! He deserves to die!"

-----"Anthony! Anthony!" Lily ran breathlessly towards him. She saw him being taken away but there was nothing she could do. She could only followed behind in a cab.

When she came closer, she had a shock of her life to see Anthony being restrained and his face was all bloodied.

She widened her eyes in fear and asked, "What is going on?"

"What’s going on?" Michael laughed bitterly. "Can’t you see?"

Lily looked at the knife that was in the bodyguard’s hand and looked back at the blood on Anthony’s body. She was so frightened that she took a few step back. freewёbnoνel.com

"Help me, Lily! Help me..." Anthony looked at her as though hope had arrived.

Michael saw the fear on her face, snickered and commented provokingly, "That’s right. I want him dead. I didn’t think you would actually come along. But since you are already here, don’t blame me for being nasty."

Before he could finish his sentence, Lily had already turned to escape.

Anthony stared at her retreating form and shouted, "Save me, Lily! Lily!"

"Run faster! See how far you can go!" Michael bellowed at her.

That only made Lily run even faster. Anthony only stopped his shouting after Lily was totally gone. He felt extremely disappointed. Lily had actually left him in the lurch.

He muttered despairingly to himself, "How could she just walk away like that?"

Michael’s gaze turned to Anthony. He said sarcastically, "No, she didn’t walk away, she ran away, at top speed. Do you realize it now? This is the kind of woman that you abandoned your wife for."

Anthony had never thought that Lily could run so fast. Noticing that he was speechless, Michael couldn’t help but let out a burst of laughter.

He then closed his eyes and said coldly, "Bring them both for the compatibility test."

After saying that, he changed his mind and added, "Separate them during the test."

Putting them together could result in Winnie breaking down again. The moment Anthony and Winnie were taken away, it was peaceful again in the ward. His grandmother sighed after watching the dramatic scene.

Silence filled the air. It was like waiting for things to settle down. Finally, Michael’s grandmother spoke. She said, "Can you tell me now what exactly is going on?"

Michael lowered his head, full of guilt. He didn’t want his grandmother to worry but since things had turned out this way, he couldn’t hide the truth anymore.

Michael explained what happened in the simplest way possible. His grandmother almost fell off the chair after hearing his explanation. Michael moved forward to help her but his hands were slapped away by his grandmother.

The more she looked at Leah and Jake, the more she felt sad for them.

These two poor children. She closed her eyes and tears began to flow. She told Michael, "Go and get all the relatives that are related to us by blood. Get them to do the bone marrow compatibility test too. Get Jade, and all your uncles and cousins to come. There will be more hope with more people doing the test."

"I have already sent Mr. York to gather them. Wendy’s mother is also on the way here." Michael was so guilty that his reply was a whisper, and he couldn’t look his grandmother in the eye.

"I hope there will be a match." His grandmother sighed and continued, "And hopefully, Wendy will soon be found."

...

After Anthony and Winnie had done the bone marrow compatibility test, Michael ordered for them to be sent home. Initially, Michael wanted to keep Anthony at the hospital after the test. He could then decide what to do with him after the result came out.

But the moment he thought about how Lily had left him in the lurch, he thought it might be better to send him back. After all, he was bound to go after Lily after what she had done. If his bone marrow was really a match, he could always send people to get him.

By now, Mary Stewart had arrived at the hospital. Someone was already waiting for her at the entrance. She was immediately ushered to the hospital ward.

"Mom." Michael was so ashamed to see her. He got down on his knees the moment he saw her. It was all his fault for failing to take care of Wendy and the two children.

He would rather be the one in trouble and the one who had gotten the illness.

"I am so sorry." Michael’s grandmother stood up with her walking stick and gave Mary a deep bow to apologize on Michael’s behalf.

Mary was actually full of rage but when she saw how apologetic Michael and his grandmother were, she was at a loss. Her rebuke remain caught in her throat. But she was still upset. She pointed at Michael and said angrily, "Michael, I left my daughter and my grandchildren in your hands. You promised to take good care of them forever. Is this your way of taking care of them?"

"I’m sorry, Mom. I am so sorry." This was all Michael could say for the past few days.

"Grandma..." Leah walked to Mary and pulled on her sleeve. She looked up at her and said, "Grandma, please don’t blame Daddy. He didn’t want all these things to happen."

Leah had been speaking up for Michael. When he heard his daughter, he felt all the more guilty and ashamed. His daughter was such a good girl. Why didn’t he take better care of her?

Mary reached out and stroke Leah’s head. She could only sigh and ask, "I’m here to do the test. Where can I do it?"

"Let me take you there, Mom." Michael stood up and personally brought Mary to take the compatibility test.

Mary was aware that what happened was not entirely Michael’s fault. But when she thought about what he told her over the phone, she couldn’t help but feel upset.

How could her daughter be kidnapped and her granddaughter be sick? How could such terrible things happen?

After doing the test, Mary didn’t return to Linton. She made a call back to apply for leave of absence from work. She had decided to stay behind to look after Leah and Jake. With the current situation, she didn’t have the mood to go back to teach.

Michael’s grandmother had been in the hospital long enough, so Michael instructed someone to take her home. She, however, had no intention to leave. She was also of the same mind to stay in the hospital to look after the children.

But she was old, and her health hadn’t been good. She might fall sick without proper food and rest in the hospital. There was no choice but for her to head home and return to the hospital the next day.

After Michael’s grandmother left, Mary sat by Leah’s bedside and watched her sleep.

She quietly wiped away her tears.

Michael thought of asking her to rest. But he dismissed the thought. Even if she wanted to rest, she might not be able to fall asleep.

Michael was dozing off occasionally through the night. He only managed to fall asleep at dawn. But once he slept, the nightmare began. This time, he was awoken by his cellphone ringing.

It was Mr. York on the other line. He picked up the call without hesitation.

Mr. York reported, "Mr. Lucas, someone from the training camp told me that Yvonne Taylor had spoken. There’s one more antidote left. But..."
