Chapter 638: You Are So Audacious!

Since his bone marrow didn’t match Leah’s, Michael needed to look for alternatives.

According to Paul, family members that were related by blood had a higher chance of getting a match.

So Michael took out his cellphone, hesitated for a while, and called home to the old mansion. Michael’s heart was heavy as he waited for the call to get through.

He had never told his grandmother about Leah’s condition because he didn’t want her to worry. Until now, she didn’t even know that Wendy was missing. If he called her now and asked for his mother to do the bone marrow test, his grandmother would surely asked what happened.

Just as he was considering all of this, the call got through. On the other side was the familiar and gentle voice of his grandmother, "Michael..."

"It’s me, Grandma" Michael’s voice was shaking as he wept.

His grandmother had not heard him cry for the longest time. The hand that was holding the phone was shaking as she asked, concerned, "What is it? What happened?"

She knew it must be a serious matter for Michael to call her and cry over the phone.

Michael knew he couldn’t keep things under wraps forever. His grandmother was bound to find out sooner or later. He didn’t want to lie to her anymore. "Leah is sick.

She needs to have a bone marrow transplant but my bone marrow doesn’t match hers. So I need my mother to come to the hospital now to do the compatibility test."

"What?!" His grandmother was shocked by the news. Yet she didn’t ask much but replied immediately, "I will bring Winnie to the hospital right now."

Michael didn’t need to call his grandmother actually. He could have just sent Mr.

York to the old mansion to fetch Winnie. But he thought it wouldn’t be right to keep his grandmother in the dark. She would surely want to know why Mr. York took Winnie away.

Anyway, he couldn’t think too much now. All he wanted to do was to find the right donor for Leah as soon as possible.

"I won’t talk to you much longer. I am going to call Anthony now."

"Sure, sure. Go make the call. I will bring Winnie to the hospital now," His grandmother replied.

After Michael hung up, he looked through his contact list and found the number that he had not dialed for the longest time. Given the state of their relationship, if it was not for Leah, he probably would never call Anthony.

With a shaking hand, he made the call. Time seemed to pass by so slowly as he waited for Anthony to take the call. Finally someone answered.

But it wasn’t Anthony’s voice on the other line. Instead, it was Lily’s. "Oh it’s you, Michael. You can talk to me. Anthony is asleep."

Michael was feeling agitated as he heard Lily’s voice. He tried to calm himself down with a deep breath. He demanded coldly, "Tell Anthony Lucas to take the call."

"I already told you that he is asleep. Talking to me is the same as talking to him."

Michael could hear her snickering away, trying to provoke him.

It was very obvious that she had picked up the call deliberately. She was trying to declare her supremacy.

Michael clenched his fist and in a stern and forceful manner, he commanded, "I said pass the phone to Anthony Lucas now! Which part of it can’t you understand?"

Lily could hear his urgency and anger. She actually backed down, not daring to provoke him further.

At this moment, Anthony came out of the bathroom, took a look at Lily and asked, "Who’s that on the line?"

...

Lily naturally didn’t want to tell the truth. Her son was still missing. She had no intention for Michael and Anthony to be in touch.

So Lily smiled and replied, "It is just a spam call. I’ve received quite a number today."

She hung up as she spoke. Anthony didn’t think much about her reply. He walked over to the couch and told her, "Can you cut some fruit for me?" ƒгeewebnovёl.com

Lily agreed immediately. She walked into the kitchen with Anthony’s cellphone and blocked Michael’s number. Then she went about cutting fruit happily.

On the other side, Michael was boiling mad when Lily hung up on him. He tried to keep his temper at check. Taking another deep breath, he redialed Anthony’s number. But this time round, the call didn’t even get through. He was so mad that he almost smashed the phone.

Thank God his rationality stopped him. Anthony had actually blocked his number.

Michael immediately called Mr. York and instructed him coldly, "Bring Anthony Lucas to the hospital right now. As long as he is alive, I don’t care how you do it. Break his legs if you must."

Mr. York could feel Michael’s anger. Without any objection, he agreed.

Now that Winnie and Anthony were settled, the only person left to call is Mary Stewart. But he had no idea how to tell Mary. He had lost her daughter, and now, her granddaughter was sick.

Michael hesitated for a long time. Taking a deep breath, he plucked up his courage to dial Mary’s number.

Once the call was connected, Mary asked, "Michael, have you had your dinner?

When you are free, remember to bring Wendy and the children back to Linton for a visit."

"I’m sorry, Mom..." Michael’s voice broke.

Mary wasn’t expecting a call from Michael, much less hear him crying. freёwebnoѵel.com

Michael summarized what happened and apologized again. "I’m sorry. It’s my fault for not taking care of Wendy and Leah. I’m to be blamed. I’m so sorry..."

On the other side of the line, Mary was trying to digest the shocking news that Michael had just given her. She momentarily lost her balance and moved two steps back.

Thank God the couch was just behind her and she fell onto it. Mary knew this was not the time to point fingers. She closed her eyes and tried hard to stay calm as she said, "I will come to Lake City now."

She then hung up. Without packing anything, she took her ID and keys and left home. It would take her a while to get to Lake City.

But it did not take long for Michael’s grandmother to take Winnie to the hospital. She was holding her walking stick and looking all anxious.

"Where should we do the test? I will do it together with Winnie." That was the first thing she said when she saw Michael.

"Grandma, your health has not been good. You’d better not do the test," Michael said. "Let my mother do it."

"I’m fine. I can do it," his grandmother insisted.

"Grandma, you are getting on in years. Even if it is a match, you will not be suitable for undergoing a bone marrow transplant surgery," Michael said. He knew she was worried and tried to assure her, "I’ve already informed Anthony and Wendy’s mother.

I’m sure we will find a match among them. Don’t worry."

"Don’t worry? How can I not worry?" She hit Michael with her walking stick. "How can you keep such grave matters from me? If not because of the need for finding the right donor, are you planning to keep me in the dark forever?"

"I’m sorry, Grandma," Michael said as he lowered his head. Besides saying sorry, he didn’t know what else to say.

...

"Great-Grandma, please don’t hit Daddy. He is sad enough," Leah came out of the hospital ward and saw her hitting Michael. Tears swelled in her eyes.

Looking down at her adorable great-granddaughter, Michael’s grandmother’s eyes were also filled with tears. Though she was hitting Michael with the walking stick, she felt the pain too.

Her walking stick froze in mid-air. As she was old, she almost lost her balance.

Michael noticed that and immediately reached out to catch her.

"Great-Grandma, don’t worry. I am sure I will be fine," Leah comforted her and held her hand. With her angelic voice, she said, "Let me help you to the room to rest, Great-Grandma. You’ve come such a long way here. You must be tired."

The more sensible Leah was, the more Michael’s grandmother felt the ache in her heart. Following Leah into the ward, she put her walking stick aside and sat down.

She reached out to hug Leah and said while crying, "You are such a good girl. Why must you go through so many challenges? I thought after the three of you came back to Lake City and back to Michael’s side, you would live happily and peacefully together."

The more she talked, the more she wept. Seeing her cry, Leah couldn’t help but cry with her. She wiped her tears from her little face and tearfully said, "Please don’t cry, Great-Grandma. When I see you cry, I want to cry too."

"Alright, I won’t cry anymore. You stop crying too," Michael’s grandmother wiped away Leah’s tears lovingly.

"We are in the hospital?" Winnie exclaimed from the side. "Oh no! I don’t want to be here at the hospital. I want to go home! I want to go home!"

Winnie’s outburst irritated Michael.

"Mom, let’s go home. Let’s go home now. They will give me injections in the hospital.

It will be very, very painful." Winnie was looking around for her mother-in-law.

Spotting her, Winnie instinctively went to pull her off the chair. Because she was strong, Mrs. Lucas almost fell. Fortunately Michael was sharp and immediately held on to her. Then he pushed Winnie away and told a bodyguard, "Let her do the compatibility test now."

"Yes, Mr. Lucas." The bodyguard immediately went to grab Winnie.

But Winnie was kicking up a big fuss. "I want to go home! I want to go home!

Michael, you are my son. Bring me home now. I don’t want to stay here in the hospital. This is a scary place! People die here and there are ghosts here!"

Michael closed his eyes and waved his hand to signal for the bodyguard to bring her away.

Before she was brought away, Anthony’s voice could be heard from the other side, "How dare you tie me up! Ask Michael Lucas here! How dare he do this to his own father!"

"Let me go now. You are going to get it from me if you don’t do what I say now!"

"Why did you bring me to the hospital?"

...

Upon hearing Anthony’s voice, Michael went out immediately. The moment he saw Michael, Anthony shouted angrily, "Michael Lucas! You are so audacious! How dare you kidnap your own father to the hospital! What exactly do you want to do?"

Michael didn’t want to talk much with Anthony. He was not fit to be a father. Before Michael could respond, Winnie broke free from the bodyguard, ran towards Anthony and bit him hard on the arm.

"Ouch!" Anthony let out a shout before he could figure out who bit him.
