Chapter 618: It Has Been A While
Michael then realized that he was hugging Leah too tightly. He immediately let go and said, "I’m sorry, Leah. It’s all Daddy’s fault. I’m sorry..."
Then, tears welled up in Michael’s eyes.
He lowered his head and quickly wiped the tears off his face so Leah couldn’t see them.
Leah quickly said, "Daddy, what’s wrong? It’s okay. I’m fine. It’s just that you hugged me a little too tight. It’s okay, Daddy. Why not hug me again? You can hug me as tightly as you want."
Leah thought that what she had said earlier made her dad upset.
Looking at how understanding his daughter was, he couldn’t help but tear up again.
He pulled Leah into his arms again but remembered to hug her not too tight.
Leah gently patted Michael on the back with her small hands. She comforted, "It’s okay, Daddy. It didn’t hurt, really..."
Michael only let Leah go after quite some time.
Leah blinked and asked, "Daddy, when can we go back? I don’t want to stay in the hospital. And where’s Mommy? I haven’t seen her for two days."
Michael didn’t know what to tell his daughter.
Michael lowered his head and said, "We all have to stay in the hospital for the next few days. We have to undergo a thorough physical examination. Daddy, Jake, and Aunt Zess have to stay in the hospital too.
"As for Mommy, she went overseas for work. She will be back soon. When she’s back, we will be done with our physical examinations too. We will all be healthy and strong. Isn’t it great?"
"Uh-huh. Why Mommy doesn’t need to do a check-up?" Leah asked, confused.
"Mommy is pregnant. She can’t do check-ups now," Michael answered.
Leah wasn’t suspicious of what Michael had said, so she nodded.
...
In Rheinsville City... When Christian reached home, he was carrying a big bouquet of lilies.
Basking on the whiff of the lilies, Christian handed the bouquet to Wendy. "Do you like them?"
Wendy really hated Christian for asking.
Did he need to ask if she liked it?
Christian didn’t care if Wendy really liked them. He bought it because he wanted to.
He gave it to her because he wanted to.
They were heading out for a movie after they were done with dinner. Wendy thought she could leave this place as soon as she had the chance.
Hence, she was more patient with Christian.
Wendy smiled faintly and took the bouquet. She replied, "Yes. Thank you."
"You’re welcome." Christian looked at the smile on Wendy’s face. Although he knew that it wasn’t sincere, he couldn’t help but took a few more looks at it.
"Aren’t we watching a movie later? Come and have dinner. It has been a while since I saw a movie. I’m excited," Wendy said as she put the bouquet by her side.
"Let’s have dinner outside. I’ve made a reservation at a restaurant. Go and dress up.
I will wait for you," Christian said. freewebnσvel.cøm
Hearing that, Wendy frowned, but she nodded obediently. She then turned to go upstairs.
Wendy changed into a casual outfit, so it would be more convenient when she found a chance to escape.
When she was done, she went downstairs and headed for the door. She saw Christian waiting for her.
Christian examined Wendy’s outfit from top to bottom, and his expression turned glum.
...
"Change," Christian said calmly, looking at Wendy.
Wendy lowered her head and looked at her outfit. She was well aware that her outfit didn’t look like she was going out on a date.
Christian was bringing her out for dinner and for a movie because he wanted to go on a date with her.
He was, of course, disappointed to see her dressed too simple.
Wendy nodded without arguing. She turned and went back into the room to change.
A few minutes later, Wendy went downstairs. When Christian saw Wendy’s blue dress, he didn’t seem to be satisfied.
He went with Wendy to her room, and then to the walk-in closet. He personally picked a dress for her.
It was a red maxi dress with embroidery. It looked a little retro but reflected the beauty of Zeilheim City.
Christian picked the dress up before Wendy. He seemed to be delighted with his choice, saying, "Put this on."
Wendy took a look at the red dress and was reluctant to put it on.
The dress looked like what a bride would wear during a toast at a wedding banquet.
The dress did look nice, but Wendy didn’t want to put on such a dress just for dinner and a movie.
"This is too red. It doesn’t seem to be appropriate to wear this at night," Wendy refused.
However, Christian was especially happy with the dress. He didn’t give Wendy a chance to refuse. He threatened, "Put it on yourself or I’ll put it on for you?"
Wendy didn’t have the courage to say anything else after Christian made the remark.
She took the dress and changed.
As expected, the dress looked especially good on Wendy.
The moment Christian saw Wendy walked out, his eyes beamed with excitement.
"It suits you," Christian commented, picking another pair of heels for Wendy.
Wendy didn’t bother refusing because she knew that it was useless.
Plus, Christian might become suspicious if she kept refusing him.
She put on the pair of heels that Christian picked for her and asked, "What else do I need to change?"
Christian examined Wendy from head to toe, then nodded with satisfaction.
"Nothing. Let’s go."
When Wendy walked downstairs, she saw Zen sitting in the living room.
Wendy said, "We are leaving now. We are not eating here tonight. Remember to eat."
"Alright," Zen replied, looking glum.
Looking at Wendy’s and Christian’s receding figures, Zen hoped for Wendy to escape safely.
Wendy was different from Zen. Wendy had smart and adorable children and a husband who loved her.
The only thing that Zen had in mind was her parents.
However, Zen believed that Wendy would definitely take good care of her parents after she successfully escaped.
So, Zen had nothing to worry about.
After Wendy escaped, Zen would find a chance to meet death together with Christian.
Even without a chance, she wouldn’t let herself become a token for Christian to threaten Wendy again.
She would end her own life if necessary.
Wendy and Christian got in the car.
Wendy already guessed that Christian would sit at the back, so she went to sit at the passenger seat in the front. She said gently, "I feel car sick. I shall have a good view here at the front."
Christian frowned but he couldn’t say much.
...
It was quiet in the car. Needless to say, Wendy wouldn’t take the initiative to start a conversation.
Christian was seated in the back seat. Even if he wanted to say something, it seemed to be much of an effort to talk to her with the distance between them.
The driver seemed to be uneasy in such a mood, and he drove a little fast.
In a few minutes, they arrived in the restaurant where Christian had made a reservation.
Christian immediately got out of the car first.
Then, he went to the passenger seat and opened the door for Wendy.
Wendy didn’t look at Christian as she got out of the car in silence.
She then swept her glance across the place.
The ambiance and dcor in the Chinese restaurant were to Wendy’s liking.
She could tell that Christian did put in the effort to make arrangements for that night.
Christian walked next to Wendy and bent his elbow, saying coldly, "Hold my arm."
Wendy looked at Christian. Although she was reluctant to hold his arm, she put her hand without complaining.
There was no use to annoy Christian.
"Good evening, Mr. Lucas. We have already made arrangements accordingly. This way please," the manager at the entrance came forward and greeted them courteously, bending down.
Christian nodded faintly and followed the manager along with Wendy.
The restaurant was located on the 58th floor. It offered a great view of the city.
From the restaurant, they could see the night scene of the bustling city.
Brightly colored red roses were on the table.
The roses were fresh, and the water beads reflected a beautiful gleam. A faint smell of the roses filled the air.
Besides the roses, candles were on the table.
The entire restaurant was lit up by candles.
It was really beautiful.
However, it was a pity that Wendy was not in the mood to appreciate the decorations.
On the other hand, Christian was in a good mood. His lips formed into a smile as he asked Wendy, "Do you like the place?" fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
"Hmm, it’s really beautiful here," Wendy replied as she forced a smile.
"Great. If you want to, we can come and dine in here every night," Christian said.
’Who the hell wants to eat dinner with you here every night?’ Wendy thought.
After a short conversation, they were silent again.
Christian wasn’t good at making small talks, nor did he know how to deal with women.
He didn’t know what to say.
Fortunately, the dishes were served soon.
Christian took some food and put them into Wendy’s bowl. "Try if the food suits your liking..."
Christian looked at Wendy expectantly. Then, he frowned.
He knew that Wendy didn’t like him putting food into her bowl.
They had an argument the previous time because Christian put food in her bowl.
Wendy didn’t even eat then.
Christian didn’t want Wendy to be hostile to him all the time.
Hence, he tried not to go against Wendy in the past two days. He even brought her out to dinner and a movie date to grow closer to her.
Wendy looked at the food in her bowl, hesitant to eat them.
Just as she picked up her chopsticks, she saw a hand stretched out.
He took Wendy’s bowl that was filled with food and placed it before himself. He then told the waiter, "Bring another bowl."
The waiter quickly went forward and gave Wendy another bowl.
Looking at Christian’s action, Wendy furrowed her eyebrows and glanced at him.
But Wendy didn’t say anything. She took some dishes on her own and began to eat.
She had to eat to have the strength to run away.
