Chapter 274: Are You Insane?

"What do you want?" Wendy asked after taking a deep breath.

Christian was approaching her slowly, but she couldn’t retreat any further back.

Her heart was racing in fear.

"Is it your birthday today?" He smiled at her.

His smile made him look even more terrifying than the devil himself to Wendy.

"Wha-?" But his question confused her for a second.

She looked back at him and asked, "You mean... you’re here to celebrate my birthday?"

To her surprise, he actually nodded.

Her eyes widened as she quickly said, "There’s no need for you to do that. I don’t need you to celebrate my birthday."

He stopped just one step away from her and pulled a small box out from his pocket.

That box looked like the type that would contain a ring.

Was Christian about to give her a ring? That thought alone made her break out into a cold sweat.

He opened the box, and there really was a ring inside.

"I got someone to design it specifically for you, so it’s the only one in the world." He took the ring out of the box and tried to reach for her hand.

She shook her head vigorously. "Since it’s so precious, you can save it for yourself, or you could give it to someone else. I... I already have one."

His expression darkened when he saw the sparkling diamond ring on Wendy’s finger.

Then he snapped fiercely, "Take that one off!"

Christian’s mood could really be unpredictable at times. He was smiling all this while, and now he had suddenly become angry.

She shook her head and didn’t intend to take her ring off at all. How could she remove the ring from Michael and put on this one from Christian?

When he saw that she wasn’t cooperating, he grabbed hold of her hand and tried pulling the ring off himself.

Her hand hurt from how hard he gripped it, and yelled, "Ow! Ow! That hurts!"

But he didn’t stop hurting her even though she was yelling in pain.

She could see the crazed look in his eyes and knew that she couldn’t fight him.

So, she decided to cooperate with him for now.

She swallowed her saliva and endured the pain as she said, "I’ll take it off, I’ll take it off! Can you let go of me, please?"

He stopped trying to pull it off but held onto her hands as he observed her closely like he was trying to see if she meant what she just said.

"Let go of me, and I’ll take it off myself," she repeated in a gentler voice.

He slowly let go of her hands.

She then removed the ring in front of him. But before she could put it into her own bag, he snatched it away from her.

"Give it back to me!" She reached out to grab the ring from him.

But he took the chance to put his ring on her finger instead.

"Christian Lucas, are you insane?!" She was losing her patience.

She had tried to give in to him in hope that he would go away. But she ended up emboldening him.

It was true that she was afraid, but he had gone too far this time.

"Why are you even here anyway? I don’t need you to celebrate my birthday with me! I’ve got nothing to do with you, anyway!" She was so angry that she began yelling furiously at him. "If there’s something wrong with your head, go see a doctor! You’ve come all the way here just to insist that I put on a ring you bought?! You’re nuts!"

But Christian merely laughed instead of getting angry. "That’s right. There’s something wrong with me."

If there was nothing wrong with him, he wouldn’t have flown to Rheinsville City every year for the past five years on her birthday.

For the past five years, Christian had been secretly visiting Rheinsville City on Wendy’s birthday just like today.

He naturally did not show his face in the past.

He simply quietly watched her from a distance as Todd and Timothy celebrated her birthday with her.

Every year, he would custom make a ring for Wendy.

However, Christian did not give her any of the last five rings and ended up throwing them out after Wendy’s birthday was over. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

It was different this time, and he showed up in front of Wendy.

He had to make Wendy put on the ring this time.

Wendy did not know what to make of what Christian was trying to do.

What was he doing? Did he like her or something?

Otherwise, why would he visit her at the hospital in the middle of the night and say strange things to her?

Also, he specially came to Rheinsville City on her birthday to give her a ring.

If he really liked her, he should not have forced her against her will.

Even though Christian knew Wendy was afraid of him, he kept coming closer.

Wendy could not figure out what Christian was trying to do.

However, she did not want to wait.

Wendy noticed something wrong with Christian’s mood, so she took the opportunity to press for the next floor in the elevator.

The moment the door opened, Wendy reached her hands out and shoved Christian aside before running out quickly.

She did not dare to look back as she ran as quickly as she could.

Christian smiled in self-ridicule as he watched Wendy attempt to run off.

He must be really crazy. Otherwise, why did he end up looking for Wendy?

Christian whispered as he watched her run away, "Happy birthday, Wendy."

After running some distance, Wendy finally felt relieved when she did not hear any footsteps behind her.

She took a look and realized she had already run for seven floors.

She lived on the 19th floor.

Since Wendy did not know if Christian was still in the elevator, she did not dare to take it.

She went upstairs on foot.

The moment Wendy got to the ground floor, she saw the security guard running over.

The security guard asked when he saw her, "Hi, did you get hurt in the elevator? Do you need my help?"

Wendy sensed pain running through her finger and lowered her head to look at it.

Other than her finger, Christian did not hurt her.

She reached her hand out and pulled the ring off.

"Please help me get my ring back. It was stolen," Wendy said.

Michael had given her the ring.

Wendy had a feeling it was a wedding ring, so she could not lose it.

"Sure." The security guard looked at Wendy as he asked, "Did you get hurt?"

"I’m fine." Wendy shook her head. "Just help me get my ring back."

The security guard spoke into the walkie-talkie and asked for the building to be secured.

This was Rheinsville City, so Christian could not get away with this.

Sadly, Christian was nowhere to be found even after the security guards had secured the building.

"I’m sorry. I think the man already ran off." The security guard lowered his head slightly and sounded apologetic. "But I will report this to the cops."

Wendy already saw this coming.

Over 10 minutes had already passed, so Christian was probably long gone.

"Never mind," Wendy sighed. "Thank you so much." Wendy nodded to the security guards.

"It was our job. I am sorry that we were not of much help to you." The security bowed and apologized.

Since Christian was gone, Wendy decided to take the elevator.

After Wendy got home, she quickly closed the door and bolted it shut.
