Chapter 170: She’ll Wake Up
Michael kept gazing at Wendy after he repeated what he said. He even refrained from blinking his eyes as he didn’t want to miss Wendy’s slightest movement.
As he expected, Wendy flicked her fingers again.
Michael started beaming as he found out what words would work on her.
"It seems that she doesn’t want me to die," he thought.
Michael then continued, "Then I must let you know, Wendy, Jake, Todd, Mary and even Leah will all follow my suit if you still don’t wake up. If you want us all to come with you, then keep sleeping. Jake and Leah are only five years old, how can you be so cruel that you let it happen?"
Michael’s fake threat did strike a chord with Wendy and she twitched her fingers again.
After making sure that Wendy was starting to gain her consciousness, Michael popped out of his chair and started waving at the doctors out of the ICU room, "Hey doc, Wendy’s moving. She’s moving!"
The door of the ICU room was completely soundproof, but the doctors immediately realized what happened seeing how excited Michael was.
They immediately opened the door and swarmed into the room.
"Wendy finally starts moving, and not just once. Come here quick!" Michael rushed towards one of the doctors and dragged him while striding back to Wendy’s bed.
The doctor nodded and wasted no time doing a check on Wendy. And then, the doctor told Michael, "Mr. Lucas, we need to conduct a thorough check on Mrs. Lucas. Would you mind waiting outside?"
Michael kept staring at Wendy as he wanted to ask for the doctor’s permission to stay in the room.
However, he still decided to leave as Wendy’s health was much more important than anything else.
He nodded and said, "Please make sure that she wakes up. If you guys can fix her, I’ll pay for all the medical equipment your hospital needs in the future, otherwise, don’t even bother working in this place anymore."
Michael had the doctors at the first half as the hospital they were working in needed tens of millions of dollars worth of medical equipment, but he lost them at the blatant threat he made.
The doctors stayed silent as Michael walked out of Wendy’s room.
Todd was the first person to ask Michael how it went, "Did you do it? Is Corrine waking up?"
Michael smiled and said without hesitation, "She’s starting to regain her consciousness. I swear that her fingers twitched more than once just now. Hasn’t the doctor said that Wendy would have a chance of waking up if she could move a muscle by herself. She just flicked her fingers multiple times. I believe she’s waking up soon."
"Amazing!" Mary exclaimed with relief.
She had been in the hospital for three days, and she couldn’t let her guard down at all after seeing both Wendy and Michael injured. And now, she could finally take a break from the intensiveness.
Michael kept beaming, but suddenly, he pressed his chest with one hand as he panted.
"Go have a check on your wound. Wendy is finally getting better, and you started to bleed again," grandmother said to Michael concernedly.
Michael was badly injured as well and the doctor had told him not to leave his bed for five days for recovery. But how could Michael stay in his bed knowing the condition Wendy was in?
After running between his room and Wendy’s and the emotional turmoil he just went through, his wound dehisced.
However, he didn’t pay attention to his own wound as he wasn’t able to think of anything else but Wendy.
"I’ll wait until Wendy wakes up..."
Before Michael finished his sentence, Jake interjected, "We’ll be here looking after mom. Go ask the doctor to check your chest. I can see your wound cracking open again. I don’t want you to get worse while mom gets better, daddy."
Michael smiled more broadly having heard Jake call him ’daddy’ again.
After hesitating for a while, He acquiesced and said, "Sure."
Mrs. Lucas followed Michael to the doctor as she was concerned about his health.
Seeing Mrs. Lucas and Michael walk away, Leah whispered to Jake as she was dumbfounded, "Brother, why did you call Uncle Michael daddy?"
Leah had been wanting to ask that question since Jake had first called Michael ’daddy’.
"Why don’t you call him Uncle Michael like me?"
She had a lot of other questions as well, like why was she told to call Todd ’dad’.
Although Wendy had explained it to her, she was too young to understand the full story.
Nevertheless, Leah was always obedient to her mother, so she kept doing what her mother asked her to even though she was confused.
Jake thought about Leah’s questions as he wasn’t sure whether or not he should tell Leah that Michael was their birth father.
He used to be under the impression that his birth father had done nothing but hurt their mother and that their mother only came back to Lake City for revenge. But after witnessing the efforts Michael put in for Wendy, Jake’s opinion of him improved.
Regardless, Wendy was still in a coma, so Jake reckoned that it’d be better to leave it for his mother to decide. He didn’t know the details of the drama between Michael and Wendy, so he was in no position to share any of it with Leah.
If Leah learned that Michael was their birth father, she would definitely try to convince Wendy to get back together with Michael which would be awkward if there were any unresolved conflicts between Michael and Wendy.
Jake thought about the best response for a while and finally explained it to Leah, "Me calling Uncle Michael ’daddy’ is just like you calling Uncle Todd ’daddy’. There isn’t any special reason for it."
Leah, however, still looked confused.
Jake then patted Leah on her head, beamed at her and said, "Leah, you’re too young to understand what’s going on. Mommy will let you know when you grow up."
Leah nodded and said, "I believe you, brother."
Regardless of her confusion, Leah had complete trust in Wendy and Jake, which was why she would buy into any story they told her.
Michael came back after getting treated for his wound.
Through the window of Wendy’s room, he could see the doctors were still running tests on Wendy.
"How is she?" Michael asked Jake and Leah.
"I’m not sure," Jake responded. "The doctors have been inside the whole time."
"She will be alright. She has to be alright," Michael murmured as if he was trying to convince himself of that while replying to Jake.
After a long while, one of the doctors opened the door.
Michael strode towards him and asked, "How did it go?"
The doctor took off his mask and exhaled with relief as he spoke. "If everything goes well, she’ll wake up tomorrow." ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
Michael’s threats were still very clear in the doctor’s mind as he remembered how Michael had sued the best hospital in the city into bankruptcy five years ago.
If it wasn’t for the collapse of that hospital, his hospital wouldn’t have become number one in Lake City.
That was why the doctor never doubted for a second that his hospital would be doomed if Wendy wasn’t able to wake up from her coma. freēwēbnovel.com
Everyone who had eagerly been waiting for the results, gasped with joy once they heard the news.
Mary even fainted and fell onto the floor as she was finally able to calm her nerves.
She hadn’t had a single good night’s rest since the accident happened. Even when she was taking a brief nap, thoughts of Wendy would slip into her dreams.
"Grandma!"
"Mary!"
Jake and Leah were standing right beside Mary, but they were too weak to lift her up.
Michael was too far from Mary, and besides, he didn’t have much strength left because of his injury.
Todd stepped forward and held Mary in his arms.
The doctor was a bit speechless after seeing another person in the family fall. "She is alright," he said after doing a brief check on Mary. "All she needs is some decent rest."
Todd then carried Mary back to Michael’s room so that she could finally take a much needed break. Everyone was completely drained of their energy because of the accident.
