Chapter 169: It Stands For Trust And Approval

Jake knew that Todd wouldn’t be able to fulfill what the doctor suggested as his mother had always regarded him only as a friend.

As for grandmother and Mary, they were both Wendy’s seniors who loved her dearly, but they weren’t the best option.

Leah was one of the people who Wendy cared about the most, but she was too young to be up for the task and might just end up crying. Jake himself was more strong-willed than Leah. But eventually, Jake still put his best hope on Michael. After staying silent for a while, he said to Michael, "Dad, why don’t you go?"

Michael missed a heartbeat when he heard Jake call him ’dad’.

He only asked Jake to call him that in the warehouse when he was dealing with Yvonne, and now, having heard Jake call him dad voluntarily, he couldn’t help rejoicing, even though it lasted for only a millisecond.

As for Jake, he wouldn’t ask Michael to try if he hadn’t approved of him.

"Me?" Michael’s confidence crumbled instantly as he wasn’t sure whether he was still that vital person in Wendy’s life or not. He was even worried that Wendy’s subconscious would tell her not to wake up if she heard his voice. "Better not. Maybe one of you should go instead." Michael was afraid that he would be the person Wendy despised the most.

Jake was probably the only person who really understood Wendy.

He knew that Wendy hated Michael, but that hatred didn’t come out of nowhere, instead, it was birthed by her passionate love for him.

Because she devoted her heart to Michael, her expectations were all driven up and her feelings were standing on a precipice.

The more Wendy hated Michael, the more it showed just how much she loved him before.

"Go, daddy. I believe you can wake up mommy," Jake said to Michael while beaming at him and trying to cheer him up. "We’ll all be here for you."

"Go." Grandmother waved her hand, hinting at Michael that he shouldn’t have any mental burden.

Michael couldn’t be more anxious. He, more than everyone else, hoped that Wendy could wake up from her coma, yet he was more afraid than anyone that he wouldn’t be able to wake up Wendy.

Mary wiped away the pouring tears on her cheek and nodded her head, approving of Michael.

As for Leah, she gently pulled Michael’s cuff. He squatted down and looked at this innocent girl in front of him.

Leah gave Michael a kiss on his cheek and said, "You can do it, Uncle Michael."

Michael then looked up and saw Todd gazing at him with hope even though he stayed silent the whole time.

It seemed that everyone had agreed that Michael would be the best chance.

Michael took a deep breath and a bow at them.

Their hope for him stood for their trust and their approval.

Michael followed the doctor to sanitize himself and put on a new surgical gown.

He was the only one who went into Wendy’s ICU room. Even the doctor was staying outside.

There was no point for doctors to be inside before Wendy woke up from her coma.

The doctor brought a couple of other surgeons and nurses to wait outside the room, and if Michael managed to help Wendy regain her consciousness, they would immediately start checking up on her.

Michael’s heart sank when he walked into her room and saw her pallid face.

He tried to hold her hands, but the coldness spiking on his skin horrified him. Before he could utter a single word, tears started pouring down on his face, and he wept like a baby while sitting beside Wendy.

He suddenly recalled that the doctor mentioned crying sounds would mess with Wendy’s consciousness.

Michael held back his tears, took a deep breath, and after a long while, he started holding Wendy’s hands as if it would be the last time for him to do so.

Michael was under tremendous stress.

Although everyone standing outside Wendy’s ICU room had shown him their trust and approval, he would not be able to face those caring deeply about Wendy if he failed to stimulate Wendy’s consciousness.

Certainly, he was the person who cared about Wendy the most, and he even thought he might join Wendy in the other realm if Wendy was never able to wake up.

He cried like a newborn baby with tears gushing out of his eyes, dripping on Wendy’s blanket.

He held her hands tightly and tried to utter his words, "Wendy, you’ve been asleep for three days. It’s time for you to wake up. We’re all here waiting for you to wake up."

"We have a smart and beautiful kid. Even if you aren’t doing it for yourself, you should think of Jake. He’s still a kid. He needs his mother."

"After you wake up and recover, we’ll raise Jake together and see him grow up to be a dashing man. We’ll see him marry the perfect girl and we can retire after handing my company over to Jake. We’ll travel around the world while looking at cute photos of our grandkids Jake sends us."

Images after images emerged in Michael’s head as he pictured their perfect life ever after.

Unfortunately, Wendy was still deep in her coma. freёwebnovel.com

He continued, "We’re all here waiting for you to wake up, Wendy. Grandma has been in the hospital for a day, and Mary has as well. Todd literally dropped all his work to be here for you."

"I’ve found the person who caused this car accident, and I’ve avenged you with Jake."

...

Michael rambled on for a long time beside Wendy’s bed, yet she was still sleeping still without lifting a finger.

Michael rubbed her hands against his and felt more and more petrified.

He was choked back while staring at her face.

"I know that you hate me, but as long as you wake up, I’ll promise to get out of your life even that’s what you want. If you want to leave Lake City and head back to Rheinsville City, so be it. Please just wake up."

Michael could feel his soul leaving his body while holding Wendy’s freezing hands, and the only thing he could think of was Wendy.

Michael kissed her on her forehead while his tears trickled down on her cheeks. "If you can’t wake up, can you at least take me with you? I owe you and Jake too much, and I’ve been in agony for five years. Do you know how much joy you gave me when I learned that you’re still alive? I can’t handle losing you again. I admit that I’m a coward, and without you, I will..."

Suddenly, Michael felt a shiver in his hand, which erased all his thoughts in an instant.

He wiped away his tears, but when he looked at her again, Wendy seemed to be still in her coma.

"Did you just move?" Michael shook her hand and yelled with rapture. "Can you move your hand again, Wendy?"

However, she didn’t respond at all.

"Wendy, I just saw you move. Can you move again, Wendy?"

Michael thought that he was hallucinating seeing Wendy completely still.

"Was I imagining things because I want her to wake up too bad?" he thought.

"How was that possible? What did I just say to trigger her response?"

He scratched his head to recall everything he just said, and he held her hands and started pouring his heart out again, "Wendy, if you can’t wake up, can you at least take me with you? I’ll be with you wherever you are, even after death."
