Chapter 123: I am finally using it right.
By the time the two werewolves tracked Evelyn’s scent and came to the point where Lucian and Evelyn had parted, everyone had disappeared from there.
Then, maybe Elise and Sarah used a certain artifact to erase Evelyn’s scent or maybe there was some other reason, the werewolves couldn’t track Evelyn down anymore.
So they chased after the only other scent they recognised.
Lucian’s.
At this point however, Lucian was already somewhere else.
At the place his car was trapped, yes, the service road where he had left Alaric alone with four werewolves.
Lucian had rushed back to help him but by the time he got here—
He saw Alaric holding one werewolf by his neck and the three knocked unconscious under him. As for Alaric himself, he stood with the same, calm expression as always, without a single injury on any part of his body.
Heck, even his clothes looked clean, as if instead of fighting four werewolves alone, he had just attended a posh party.
The driver looked at the scene with a horrified look on his face, Alaric completely ignored him, instead, he looked at Lucian and narrowed his eyes.
"Where is Starling?"
He questioned directly.
"She is with Black and Elise, she is safe."
"That is not for you to decide, you were supposed to be with the protected target at all times."
Alaric spoke with a cold look on his face.
In his anger, he tightened his hold on the Werewolf’s neck, killing him on the spot.
Lucian watched it happen, he watched how Alaric dropped him like he didn’t care, instead, he turned towards him.
But before he could say anything—
"We don’t have time, we need to move."
"What...?"
Alaric narrowed his eyes.
"I heard their plan, they wanted me to escape with her and move through route two. They have set another trap there."
Alaric’s expression changed at that revelation, Lucian however, was thinking another step further.
"If we move now, pretend that Evelyn is still in the car, we can lure them out and capture them. Those two would know more than they do."
Lucian spoke as he looked at the fallen werewolves.
Alaric looked at him and as much as he wanted to scold him for leaving his position, he knew what was more important right now so he—
"Let’s move."
He decided to follow Lucian’s plan.
And with that—
A black car moved into route two.
The road was thin, pressed between old service buildings on one side and a line of closed shops on the other. Smoke was still there but compared to the chaos near Meridian Grand Theatre, this place looked almost empty.
It looked... safe.
Almost too safe.
But then—
Just as the car reached the narrowest part of the road.
A truck fell from the side, blocking the road.
KRRRIIEEKKKK
The driver slammed the brakes, the car stopped just a few inches away. The driver tried to reverse, to get away from this place.
But before he could—
Two figures stepped out from the smoke behind the car, both of them wearing dark coats and smiling at the car in front of them.
"Look at that."
One of them laughed softly.
"They actually came."
The other tilted his head.
The two laughed together and as they did, the air around them was filled with thick demonic energy.
Fifth Veil Hosts.
Yes, both of them were Fifth Veil Hosts.
They weren’t as strong as Silas Morcant who Lucian faced back in the Velvet House, they were weaker, unlike Silas, who hosted a Greater Demon, they only Hosted Minor Demons. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
But even then—
These two were a threat.
All they needed to do was divide, with one of them taking on Lucian and holding him back, while the other went against the rest of the girls, defeating both Elise and Sarah, who weren’t combat hunters and then taking the girl with him.
"Of course they did. They are humans, what else did you expect?
Block one road, burn one building, scare one crowd, and they think the path left open is their own choice."
"Kekeke. You are right."
The two laughed openly, not even worried about the hunters in the car.
"Where is Ashcroft?"
The second host who walked towards the car asked.
"Still playing with the dogs, I assume."
The first Host’s grin widened.
"They weren’t entirely useless then."
The second host nodded as he walked towards the rear window, the glass was tinted black and that made him frown.
"That is new."
"What?"
"She is inside. I can smell her but I cannot see her through the glass. Its tint makes it look like no one’s inside."
"Enclave glass, maybe."
The first Host shrugged.
"They keep adding toys."
The second host clicked his tongue.
"It does not matter. Since they aren’t coming out, we break the car, take her and leave."
Purple-black veins spread faintly under his skin, his fingers stretched, nails darkened as the demonic energy gathered in his hand.
"Kekeke."
The first Host laughed as he lifted his hand as well, preparing to fight but just then—
He froze.
Something touched his back.
Two fingers.
Then, a voice came—
"Wrong car, buddy." freēwēbηovel.c૦m
The Host’s eyes widened, but before he could turn around or do something about it—
One Inch Dominion.
Lucian’s finger sank an inch deeper into the point between his spine and ribs and—
The Host’s body’s entire structure collapsed completely, his knees buckled, arms fell uselessly to his sides, his mouth opened, but no proper scream came out.
It ended before it even began.
At the same time, the second Host felt something cold press against his throat.
He turned and saw Alaric standing there with his sword pointed at his throat.
"Ashcroft—"
The Host’s eyes widened in horror, but before he could do anything, Alaric’s sword sliced his throat, the ring he was wearing reacted to the blood that came out and the instant it did—
The Host’s demonic Energy scattered before it could gather.
The Host was in disbelief, Alaric however, didn’t give him time to react, he took out a strange wire, that instantly turned into a silver-white line that wrapped around the Host’s wrist, then his elbow, his shoulders, before covering his entire body.
And just like that—
The second host was captured.
Alaric turned towards Lucian, who had stuck the Butcher’s Mercy on top of the First Host, making sure he didn’t die.
Lucian looked back at Alaric and—
"I am finally using it right."
He beamed.
Alaric didn’t say anything, he only brought out a similar wire he used, the wire turned into a silver-white line and bound the First Host as well.
Just like that—
It was all over before it ever began.
The two hosts tried to resist, the second host, whose demonic energy was back, tried to use it, but the moment he did, the wire around him cut him even deeper.
"AAGGGGHHHHHHH!!!"
He screamed in pain.
Lucian walked and slowly crouched beside him.
"Come on, we can’t have you die yet, now can we?"
He spoke as he placed the second Butcher’s Mercy on him.
"This one’s my own, you know?
But still, I will let you borrow it.
After all, you and I need to have a long long chat, don’t we?"
Lucian grinned demonically.
And as the Host looked into those violet eyes shining dangerously, he...
His body trembled in terror.
And Lucian—
He only stood up, opened the car door, took out Evelyn’s scarf that was left behind when he first took her away, and wore it in front of the Host.
That was when the Host realised it...
This was the reason he could smell her inside but couldn’t see anything...
Evelyn...
She was never here.
