Chapter 47: Monster With Golden Eyes
Well...fuck it.
Malachi’s gaze hardened as a rock as he had his mind made up.
Grim’s gaze followed him as he retreated, racing towards his car parked at the extreme end of the partly empty parking space.
He entered, slamming his car door right behind him and putting the car in reverse.
She could get fucked up tonight by a fucking shapeshifter with golden eyes.
As for him?
He’s leaving this place with his diamond ring that worth at least a mansion in Hollywood hills.
He drove out of the parking lot as fast as he could. His heart raced with guilt as he left her in the captivity of something that might be a huge threat.
But someone has to be alive to tell the tale of whatever that freak might do to her later on, right?
He nodded, convincing himself over and over that he was doing the right thing. If anything bad happens to her, at least he would be alive to get her justice and he would be rich enough to go the extra mile for her.
His eyes flickered to the diamond ring seated comfortably on the passenger’s seat beside him before returning to the road.
I’m sorry, Miss Winfield, but money has always come first before anything. I have suffered quietly enough to lose this opportunity. We would both get killed by that thing if I should try and save you.
Grim smirked, shaking his head at the human in pity.
He has no idea that he was racing towards his own death tonight.
He felt her move again in his hold and decided to give her space. His arms were loose around her waist but not enough for her to run from him. He stared down at her, not hiding any part of himself to her that night. She could as well know that she was being greatly favoured by a demon tonight. A demon prince that has already become so obsessive of her.
She groaned slightly as he moved his hands lightly over her head, pushing the loose strands of her hair aside so he could see that face he loves so much again. He gently tucked some behind her ear, anticipating as well as fearing what her reaction would be.
But she surprised him when she raised her hand and slapped him across his face. The slap echoed loudly enough to alert those dining inside and even those who worked under him.
Her slap hurt so much he was assured her fingerprint was imprinted on his left cheek.
She was angry.
No, hungry to kill him for what he dared to do tonight.
Grim said nothing. He didn’t even allow her to see how much that slap hurt him. He didn’t imagine their first kiss together would be this hurtful and dramatic tonight.
All he ever wanted was for her to love him back just as much as he was already madly in-love with her. Even if she gave him a quarter of the love he gave her. He was satisfied with it.
But receiving even the smallest bit of kindness from her too much to ask for?
Corrine stared wide eyed, afraid, angry and hurt as he took longer than usual to stare right back at her.
She felt a slight tightness in her chest when those golden eyes moved to fall on her in shame and in silence. He looked more betrayed, almost miserable than how she was.
She noticed the sharp like projections that hung dangerously from his soft lips. Lips that quivered as he stared at her begging for her love.
The terrified look on her face was what hurt him the most.
He should have known that it was going to be impossible to be accepted.
A sad tear trailed down his beautiful face as he avoided her eyes.
He should probably get out of her sight or at least give her the chance to run from him.
But nothing could have prepared him for what she did next.
The soft feel of her trembling hands lightly against his cheek scared him. He looked at her as those hands gently cupped his face and he wondered for a moment what she was doing.
Why wasn’t she screaming her lungs out or pushing him away from her to run?
What was this?
What was she doing?
It was the most beautiful feeling to be held like this by her. He could feel her fear, she was trembling badly but at the same time not letting go.
His eyes flickered to the hands placed at both sides of his face to be sure he wasn’t imagining this.
Isn’t she staring right at the face of a monster right now? One that has lived long enough to be hurt, haunted down and trampled on repeatedly by many.
’’I’m sorry...’’ She apologised as tears streamed down her face. ’’I’m sorry...’’
She said again and he could tell she regretted ever raising her hands on him even though he deserved it.
And for a moment, it looked like she wasn’t apologising to the monster staring right back at her. She pulled her hands away from him to cry bitterly. fгeewebnovёl.com
Her breakdown was the scariest thing, freezing him in place as he watched her cry non stop, the pain evident in those dark green eyes. He found himself swallowing a hard lump as she covered her face and sobbed again.
She hated everything.
She hated life, her job, her family, her dreams and most importantly how Ruby was taken away from her so soon. If Ruby was still here, it would have been much easier to endure this. Ruby would have known what to do.
Ruby would have found a cure to her illness. Ruby would have revealed how unfaithful her first love was right before he hurt and humiliated her in such a way.
Ruby would have found a way to achieve everything that she ever wanted in this life.
Ruby would have been a great mother and father to her in these hard times.
Ruby would have known...
The last part made her sob harder.
Ruby would have known how to get rid of him from her life forever and stop her from developing feelings for him.
Ruby would have known everything.
Ruby would have stopped everything and even now that she was in so much pain, she would have found a way to make her feel better.
’’Anais,’’ he called and she shook her head, not wanting to look at him ever again. To stare right back at those freakishly haunting yet mesmerizing gold eyes of his.
No wonder he was able to do all those things he did with ease and seemed to know everything there was to know about her.
What exactly does he want from her? And how did she go from attracting cheaters and liars to a literal monster with golden eyes and fangs?
Why, for once, isn’t everything normal in her life!
’’I would never hurt you,’’ She needed to understand that. He would rather hurt himself than hurt even a molecule of hair on her head. It hurt him more that she did not believe him.
Hell, she no longer looked at him.
Then he asked, desperately. A question that has been haunting him ever since he saw and knew he was already in-love with her. A question he had been praying never had the opportunity to leave his mouth.
But he was probably the reason why she was crying this much and he felt this greater amount of shame than he had ever felt since Eden.
’’Anais,’’ he called again. His voice fought hard to reach her and for a moment he finally understood why most people cried. Hell, he even cried when his lips could no longer tell of his pain and sadness.
’’Are you afraid of me?’’
She just needed to say it right to his face and he was ready to be out of her life for good. Hell, she would never see him again no matter how painful or unbearable it was.
The limit of his pursuit was causing her pain or fear. He would erase her memories of him completely from her head and keep the memories of her forever to punish himself for existing this way. For choosing a shape and form that brought nothing but lust, greed, pain at his door. And even the one he loves the most couldn’t even look at him again.
Her sobbing quieted down a bit as she raised her head slowly to answer him.
Grim’s eyes widened at the sight of blood that flowed like rivers from her nostrils.
No, the pain and crying wasn’t because of him.
No, it was something else entirely.
Something she kept secret from everyone and even him.
A cold, haunting chill swept around them and for a moment he thought his world was no longer with him as he stared at her life force being drained slowly from her. Her eyes were weak and tired, almost exhausted and her face was a mess.
She coughed and Grim found it impossible to breathe when blood pooled out of her mouth, staining her pretty dress.
She swayed slightly and for a moment all he saw was her.
Her eyes found his and a wicked smile played on those bloodied lips as she had him frozen in place in horror instead.
’’Scared of you? Why would I be scared of you?’’
You are the least horrible thing I have seen happen in my life.
She swayed again and he watched as her eyes closed and she collapsed right on his shoulder. Her body is warm and limp against him.
All he did was hold her tightly against himself before calling out to her again.
