Chapter 46: Someone One Day Will
{ NINETEEN YEARS AGO—-SHANGHAI, CHINA}
’’I wish Daddy would bring us to China more often. I love this place so much.’’
Corrine smiled as she watched her sister skip happily around in the dimmed hallway of the hotel they were staying at.
She paused, resting her hands on her knees as she caught her breath. It’s been hours since they have been exploring every inch of this private hotel. Their incredibly wealthy father had booked the entire thirty-something floor of the hotel for himself and his business partners during a three–month meeting. They had to come along because their mother was also visiting China with him and she threw a lot of tantrum, grabbing onto her mother’s dress as she rushed on the tarmac of the waiting private jet and begged to be on the big black bird with her.
’’Can Ruby come along too, Mommy?’’
Catherine Ashworth paused and turned to stare at her daughter weirdly for a moment. But because they were running late and it wasn’t a great time to stall the trip and annoy her darling mate further, she pulled her annoying daughter along after swearing to behave throughout the entire trip.
’’Oh, Look Ana, it’s raining again!’’ Ruby rushed over to the transparent walls of the fifteenth floor of the highrise building. Anais turned and watched as her sister dumbly tried to touch the rain through the glass, pressing the side of her face to the cold surface, groaning when they couldn’t have a taste of what she liked to call, heaven’s water.
Corrine moved, dragging along with her one of her overweight stuffed animals on the floor. The shoes on her feet mismatched as she stood beside her elder sister, smiling.
’’Why...can’t...I...reach it...?’’ Ruby groaned as her small tongue flicked over the glass repeatedly. The silly act caused Corrine to smile, lifting her dull mood because of the long time they had been separated from their parents. They had been here, stuck in this fancy hotel for weeks now and no one was around. Not even the receptionist, the hotel staff and cleaners. No one was around to play with them except each other.
Ruby’s dark grey eyes flickered to the smile on her sister’s face and removed her face from the glass wall. Corrine watched as Ruby still moved about without a shoe.
It’s been seven years now together and Daddy had yet to buy new clothes and shoes for her dear Ruby. The eldest daughter and soon to be the Queen of this earth—like daddy used to remind them.
Ruby doesn’t go to kindergarten or middle school with her. Ruby barely eats anything and says she is happy as long as her little sister is well-taken care of and looked after.
’’Mommy has been moving around for weeks now, shopping around the world,’’ Corrine began in a sad voice. Ruby felt the pain in it as she turned to stare at her pretty little sister.
’’Daddy doesn’t even talk to us and sometimes pretend as if you are not there.’’
The sky gave out another sad rumble as if mirroring her sadness and showing it to the entire world.
’’Uncle Lyzer looks at us as if we are some disease he secretly wants to get rid of. Everyone is very strange and weird in our family. I just wish our family will be more like Jasper’s.’’
Ruby blinked, not knowing what to say or do.
’’They bought him a new bike and were present to teach him how to ride it. I see how their faces lit up whenever the bus dropped Jasper at his house. They are already there at the door as if they know when the bus will arrive. His mommy kisses him a thousand times on the head and his daddy carries him so high and places him around his neck. I spied on them one day and they were having pancakes for dinner. They fed Jasper throughout the meal and never frowned when he made the slightest mistakes.’’
Ruby wanted to say something but sighed when her sister looked even more devastated. Her darling Ana has grown so much and was already wise to understand these things. There was no use lying or trying to pretend everything was right with them.
’’Why doesn’t Jasper’s dad tell Jasper everyday that he will soon grow up to be the king of the world? Jasper wants to be an engineer and just the other day, before we left LA, Jasper’s dad bought Jasper lego toys and tools he can use to practice with for now until he becomes one.’’
Ruby’s heart sank when her dear Ana came close enough to wrap her tiny hands around hers and said in a tone that broke her heart into a million pieces.
’’Why is it so hard to even get a kiss from Mommy or anyone when I turn to them and look adorable?’’
Ruby didn’t hesitate and moved close enough to place a huge kiss on her sister’s forehead. Corrine blinked at Ruby when her cold hands rested softly against her cheek. Her dark grey eyes so warm and filled with love, Corrine felt her world would be meaningless without those grey eyes in her life anymore.
’’See. I just gave you the biggest kiss in the whole world. Much bigger than the one Jasper’s parents gave Jasper or anybody in this world. But don’t worry, there will be someone, one day, that will give you a bigger kiss than mine.’’
Corrine blinked, not understanding a word she was saying.
’’He will come and hold your hands and take good care of you till Ruby is no more.’’
Corrine’s big dark green gaze stared at her elder twin sister, feeling lost by her strange words.
’’And when he comes to you and gives you that kiss, remember that he is Ruby’s eternal gift to you. To make up for all the terrible things you’ve had to endure. Anais has been a very good girl and Ruby knows you deserve only the best. So, one day, I will go and bring you a reward later on for enduring everything. I will give you a sign when he is near and when he is this close to you, Anais must be very kind to him and give him a bigger kiss in return.’’ freёwebnovel.com
Tears flowed down her cheeks as his lips moved continuously against hers as she remembered what she said next.
’’Anais must be very kind to him.’’
Her first kiss.
Was given to her by her new intern.
Not very romantic but...
Corrine found herself responding to it. He was very gentle yet passionate about it. Like he has been waiting all his life just to have this one kiss with her.
Corrine moaned when he lifted her up enough to settle on the car he had her pinned to. His gloved hands moved against her thigh as he placed himself between her thighs and teased her lips nonstop.
Every time she tried to pull away to catch her breath his lips against hers would harden. His other hand moved to curve around her nape, holding her in place to show her the extent of his feelings for her.
Corrine whimpered, doing a terrible job to keep up with his pace.
His lips pleasured her softly in ways she was yet to know. She was quickly exposed to so much and how one soft contact with his mouth awakened every sleeping cell of her being. She felt the heat of his touch in every single part of her being even in the most secret parts of her.
Corrine tried bringing her legs together as an unknown aching was building as he moved against her, placing small teasing intentional bites on her lower lip that aroused so many forbidden feelings she could only try to let it all out in between her shaky breaths, his hands wondering over and trailing the curves of her waist and Corrine feared whatever he was doing to her.
This heat and feeling was all consuming and strange. It felt almost forbidden and he seemed determined to punish her with it tonight.
He finally let go when her nails dug deeply enough on his shoulder to stop. Grim looked away from his love to lock eyes on the human yet to disappear out of his sight.
Malachi remained shaken to a spot at what he had just seen that demon do to his date. He left her breathlessly and at his mercy. He wanted to do something but paused when he remembered the diamond ring secured in his pocket.
Corrine stared wide eyed at her new intern, her chest moving as she took in shallow breaths. Her lips burned with heat and the aftermath of his kiss. They remained slightly apart and her face a deep crimson mess as his gaze remained trained murderously on someone behind her.
She tried to move from him and from the car and one hand secured on her to keep her in place was enough to prevent that. One look down on her from him was enough to make her behave.
It was a heart stopping look, one she will leave long enough to remember. The wind that night blew strangely around them as she saw for the first time those beautiful golden eyes she had succeeded in believing were not real.
They were just her imagination or she was seeing things.
It terrified her so much but there was something about those eyes that felt safe at the same time. Corrine didn’t move an inch as his eyes moved from her swiftly to the human that was daring him.
Grim then eased himself to rest on her left shoulder. Corrine held her breath, preparing herself for what he was going to do to her next.
She felt his hands moved around her waist possessively as he brought her to himself. One hand moving until they rested gently at the back of her head as the gold in his eyes turned into ominous slits. Fangs sharp enough to cut through any flesh dropped from his mouth as he gave the human a victory smirk.
I claimed her first.
Anais is mine now and I am hers.
