Chapter 111: Chapter 111
Cane’s POV
"Blood?"
The word comes out of my mouth slowly as I stare at Bane.
For a moment I do not understand what he means. Then my hand slowly moves up to my face. My fingers touch the bottom of my nose.
When I pull them away, I see it immediately.
Dark red blood.
My stomach tightens."What the hell?" I mutter quietly.
I rub my nose again and more blood comes out.
My mind immediately goes back to the fight.
Those damn Gravemaws.
But I did not feel anything during the fight. I did not feel a bite. I did not feel claws digging into my skin.
So how did this happen?
"How did they...?" I begin but I do not finish the sentence.
Bane is already stepping closer to me with a serious expression.
"Come on," he says quickly.
"We need to reach the pack before it spreads in your system."
My brows pull together."Spreads?"
"I think Leslie would be able to stop the spread before we can talk about anything else," he says firmly.
For the first time since the fight started I feel something strange inside my body.
A slight pressure in my head.
It is small but it is there. That alone is enough to make my jaw tighten.
I do not even realize when my head nods in agreement.
"Fine."
Without wasting another second we both take off running again.
The path toward Obsidian Veil stretches in front of us and the trees begin growing thicker around us as we enter the territory.
The sky above has already started turning darker.
The evening air feels heavier now.
We run fast. Very fast. Neither of us speaks during the entire run.
My focus remains on one thing.
Summer.
The Silvarin inside my coat presses against my chest as I run.
I tighten my fist slightly. That herb must reach Leslie.
No matter what.
After some time the tall gates of Obsidian Veil finally come into view.
Relief spreads through me immediately.
We cross the border and continue toward the royal pack house.
The moment we reach the main path Bane suddenly taps my shoulder.
I slow down slightly and turn my head toward him.
"Good luck," he says quietly.
I frown."You are not coming inside?"
He shakes his head slowly."You should remember to show Leslie that bite."
My brows pull together."Is it that important?"
"It is" he replies. But before I can ask anything else Bane already begins stepping back.
Then he disappears into the darkness, wait a minute?
I stare at the empty space for a moment. Something about him felt strange.
But I do not have time to think about it now.
I turn and continue walking quickly toward the pack chambers.
The large building soon appears in front of me.
Normally there are guards moving around and servants walking through the halls.
But tonight something feels different. The entire place is strangely quiet. Too quiet.
The moment I step inside the main entrance my eyes scan the hallway.
No footsteps. No servants walking around. No guards speaking.
Nothing.
The silence feels heavy.
My brows slowly furrow. "What the hell is happening here?" I mutter quietly.
But I shake my head almost immediately.
Right now none of that matters. All that matters is Summer.
My steps grow faster as I move deeper into the building.
Soon I reach the medical chamber where Leslie usually works.
The door opens quickly the moment I push it.
Leslie looks up from the table where she is preparing something.
The moment she sees me her eyes widen slightly.
"Alpha Cane?" she says with surprise."That was fast."
I do not waste time answering her.
Instead I immediately reach into my coat and pull out the bundle of herbs.
Then I drop them on the table in front of her.
Her eyes widen even more."Oh my goddess," she whispers.
She grabs the leaves quickly and examines them.
"Silvarin."
Her eyes move from the herbs to me again. "You almost took everything," she says in disbelief.
I do not care about that.
"Leave the talking," I say sharply."Begin the work immediately."
She nods quickly. "Yes Alpha."
She immediately starts separating the leaves and placing them into a bowl.
I do not watch what she is doing.
Instead my eyes move toward the bed in the room.
Summer is lying there. Her small body looks so still.
My chest tightens the moment I see her. I walk over immediately and sit beside the bed.
My hand slowly reaches out and grabs her small hand.
It feels cold.
My jaw tightens."You are going to be fine," I say quietly.
Leslie continues working behind me.
I can hear the sound of her crushing the leaves and mixing things together.
The smell of herbs slowly fills the room. For a while neither of us speaks.
Then suddenly Leslie’s voice breaks the silence. "Do you not find it weird that everywhere is quiet?"
Her words make my brows pull together slightly but I do not turn around.
Instead I continue holding Summer’s hand.
"While you were coming back," she adds.
I remain silent. My focus stays on Summer’s pale face.
Leslie continues working quietly for a moment.
Then suddenly she speaks again. Her voice is calm but serious.
"It was Sapphire that poisoned Summer."
My head turns immediately."What?"
My eyes lock onto her.
She nods slowly."Yes."
My mind struggles to process what she just said. "Sapphire?"
My voice becomes rough."Sebastian’s mistress?"
Leslie nods again."She is the one."
My jaw clenches tightly."Not my father?" I ask.
"No."She shakes her head. "It was not Sebastian."
My thoughts begin racing.
So Caden attacked Sebastian for nothing.
But then Leslie suddenly speaks again.
"But there is something worse."
My eyes narrow."And what the fuck is that?"
She stops moving for a moment and looks at me.
Her expression is serious now. "Alpha Gunnar is back."
My eyes widen slightly."What?"
"He heard the news about Summer when he came back," she continues. "And he rushed here immediately but after a while he left."
My grip around Summer’s hand tightens.
Leslie takes a deep breath. "And then he killed her."
My eyes harden."Killed who?" freewebnσvel.cѳm
"The mistress of your father."
Her voice becomes heavier. For a moment I just stare at her.
Then the weight of those words hits me. Gunnar has killed Sapphire. What the hell was going on?
Sapphire is still a mistress of Sebastian.
My mind immediately understands the problem.
Sapphire was not just anyone. She belonged to Sebastian.
And Sebastian is still the Alpha King.
Leslie slowly continues speaking. "He’s murdered her."
Her eyes remain fixed on me. "That is going to be a very big problem, Alpha Cane."
