Chapter 105: Chapter 105

Riley’s POV

My entire body begins trembling.

Not just a little shaking.

Real trembling that I cannot control.

My eyes slowly move down to my hands and I stare at them like they suddenly belong to someone else.

"What the hell..." I whisper.

My fingers twitch again and I quickly clench them into fists.

Behind me I hear Dahlia still struggling against the ground.

She is breathing heavily and her body keeps trying to move but something invisible is still pinning her down.

Her voice comes out strained."Release me Aemoria."

I snap my head toward her immediately."What?"

"Release me!" she repeats again while trying to push herself up.

Her voice sounds weaker now and my stomach twists when I notice the blood still around her mouth.

"I can’t!" I shout back instantly. My voice cracks from panic as fear already enveloped my body.

"I don’t even know what I did!"

Dahlia groans again while struggling."You are the one holding me down," she says through clenched teeth.

My heart starts pounding even harder."What are you talking about?!"

I stare at her helplessly."I don’t know how to do that!"

My hands shake again."I don’t even understand what’s happening!" I scream, shaking all over.

Dahlia coughs suddenly and more blood spills from her lips.

My chest tightens in panic. She really looks like she is losing strength now.

Her breathing is getting slower and heavier.

For a moment I just stand there frozen.

Then fear hits me hard.

"Oh shit..."

I run toward her immediately.

My legs move before my brain can think.

When I reach her side, I drop to my knees beside her.

Her body is still pressed against the ground like something heavy is crushing her.

"Let her go!" I shout suddenly.

My voice echoes across the clearing. But nothing changes.

Dahlia groans again.

"Release... it..." she whispers weakly.

"I’m trying!" I shout back desperately.

"I don’t know how!"

Panic rises higher in my chest as I grab her shoulders and start shaking her slightly.

"Let her go!" I yell again.

"Let her go!"

My voice is loud and desperate now."Stop whatever this is!"

Then suddenly it happens.

The pressure disappears instantly.

It is so sudden that Dahlia’s body drops flat onto the ground with a dull thud.

She gasps loudly and rolls onto her side while coughing hard.

Her chest rises and falls quickly as she tries to catch her breath.

For a moment neither of us speaks.

I slowly push myself up from the ground.

My heart is still beating so fast that it feels like it might jump out of my chest.

Dahlia remains on the ground breathing heavily.

Her hand presses against the dirt as she slowly lifts her head.

She looks exhausted.

But she is alive.

I take a few steps backward. My eyes move down to my hands again.

They are still shaking.

"No," I whisper.

I shake my head slowly."No... no... no..."

My breathing becomes uneven."This isn’t real."

Dahlia slowly pushes herself up into a sitting position behind me.

"You saw what happened," she says quietly.

I spin around instantly."No!"

My voice comes out louder than I expected."You’re trying to make me crazy!"

My heart is racing wildly."There’s no way that was me!"

Dahlia watches me calmly even though she still looks weak.

"You felt it," she says.

"I don’t care what I felt!" I snap back."I’m human!"

The words leave my mouth firmly."I’ve always been human."

Dahlia wipes the blood from her mouth slowly. freewebnoveℓ.com

"That is what you were told."

I shake my head again."No."

My chest rises and falls faster."I won’t accept this."

Dahlia slowly stands up.

Her movements are slower now but she manages to steady herself.

"You cannot run away from it," she says quietly.

"Yes I can!" I reply immediately.

"I’m doing it right now!"

I take another step backward.

"This whole thing is insane."

Dahlia watches me carefully.

"There is a reason your power waited all these years," she says.

My brows pull together again."What are you talking about now?"

She sighs softly."Your power could have awakened long ago."But it did not."

I cross my arms tightly."I don’t have any power."

Dahlia ignores that statement."It waited," she continues.

"Even while you were married to Ethan."

My chest tightens slightly when she says his name. "What?" I say.

Her eyes lock onto mine."It waited so it would not be claimed by vipers."

My mind goes completely still."What does that even mean?" I ask slowly.

Dahlia takes a step toward me again but this time I do not move.

"Your power chooses carefully when it awakens," she says."And it finally chose now."

I stare at her silently. My brain refuses to accept what she is saying.

"This is ridiculous," I mutter.

But something inside me feels uneasy.

Dahlia’s voice becomes firmer."You cannot hide from it."

"You cannot deny it."

My fists clench again."I’m not denying anything."

"Yes you are."

"No I’m not!"

Dahlia studies my face for a long moment.

Then she speaks again slowly. "You can reject it all you want."

"But it will not change what you are."

My heart sinks again.

"And what exactly am I supposed to be?" I ask sarcastically.

Her eyes remain serious."The heir of Emberwyn of course."

The words hang heavily between us.

I shake my head again immediately.

"i don’t like this."

But my voice sounds weaker now.

Dahlia continues speaking calmly."Your power waited all these years."

"Hidden."

"Silent."

She takes another step closer."And now it’s wanting to awaken."

I stare at her while my heart continues racing.

Then she says the final thing that makes the silence around us feel even heavier.

"There was a reason it stayed dormant even while you were married to Ethan."

My stomach twists slightly.

"It did not awaken then because it refused to be coveted by the wrong one."
