Chapter 957: Chapter 984: Parting Ways (2)

The two were close enough that Dallas Taylor’s breath could reach her face, Mia Ginger quickly bowed her head, pursing her lips to turn on the flashlight on her phone, ready to move away from Dallas’s embrace.

Dallas held her with one arm, not letting go; instead, he pressed her closer towards himself, "Don’t move."

"The property management will be here soon," Mia whispered.

"In urgent matters, safety comes first," Dallas’s voice was firm.

Mia was actually a bit afraid, so she fell silent, grabbing tightly onto his shirt sleeve, resting her lips against him, listening to the sound of Dallas’s heartbeat.

Steady and strong, slightly fast.

The small space in the elevator, combined with the summer heat, quickly made it feel unbearably stuffy. Mia couldn’t tell if it was psychological, but she felt parched, as if she might suffocate at any moment.

She wasn’t usually afraid of heat, but the tight jeans wrapped around her legs were extremely uncomfortable.

Dallas wasn’t faring much better.

His shirt was soaked with sweat, yet he stiffened his body, hardly daring to move.

He had never been this close to a woman before, especially someone who had tugged at his heartstrings for the past two years. Every time he thought of her, he felt regret.

Now, he found himself holding her in his arms.

Dallas felt extremely uneasy, catching a faint scent from Mia’s body.

Quite odd.

In such a stuffy environment, she had obviously sweated quite a bit, yet her body emitted a fragrance.

Dallas’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he turned his head to the side.

The elevator lights suddenly came on.

Darkness gave way to light, and both of them let out a sigh of relief.

Dallas held Mia’s arm, keeping the same position as before. Soon, the elevator started operating again, descending at the normal speed until it reached the first floor, the door opening.

The property management staff arriving outside saw the two unharmed and also let out a sigh of relief.

"Let’s go." Dallas said quietly, holding Mia’s arm.

Mia pursed her lips, looking helpless, "You might need to help me out, my legs are numb."

She furrowed her brows tightly, looking utterly dejected. Dallas couldn’t help but chuckle softly at her awkward state, holding her arm as he lifted her out.

"President Taylor, are you okay? The Chairman is on his way down," the receptionist quickly asked.

"I’m fine," Dallas replied to her, raising his eyes to speak to the property staff, "The emergency light inside had issues earlier as well."

"I’m sorry you were startled, this elevator is newly installed and was just inspected a few days ago. It shouldn’t be having issues, but don’t worry, this problem won’t arise in the future. Do either of you feel unwell? If you need a hospital check-up, contact us anytime. Here’s the phone number. We’ll take full responsibility." The property staff, sweating with a shirt, quickly offered his business card.

The other two who came along placed an "Elevator Maintenance" warning sign and began inspecting it ahead.

Dallas accepted the business card, shifting his gaze back to Mia, "Any discomfort? Want me to help you walk a few steps?"

"Miss..."

The receptionist was just about to speak when the elevator door beside them suddenly opened.

Aurora Cooper stepped briskly out and, upon seeing Dallas glanced at him before saying unexpectedly, "Mia!"

"Mom." Mia gave her a strained smile.

"Were you the one with President Taylor just now?" Aurora hurried over to support her, "Why didn’t you tell me you were coming back early? Are you feeling okay? Anywhere feeling unwell?"
