Chapter 956: Chapter 983: Going Their Separate Ways (1)

Dallas Taylor had business dealings with Aurora Cooper, and naturally knew about her studying abroad.

Mia Ginger wasn’t surprised, shrugged, and smiled, "Just got back."

"Time flies." Dallas looked her up and down, sighing, "The little girl has grown up, very different from before. Just now, I hesitated when I saw a figure from the back."

Mia curved her lips into a smile, and the two of them entered the lobby on the first floor.

Dallas had an appointment with Aurora, and since there was a prior registration at the front desk, he and Mia were admitted in with a card swipe.

It was three o’clock in the afternoon, right during office hours.

Mia entered the elevator, realizing they were the only two going up, feeling a bit awkward.

After all —

She and Dallas had that embarrassing incident before.

Dallas seemed oblivious, asking her, "Did you drive Koa Jackson’s car over?"

Mia was taken aback, "Yes."

The two then fell into an uncanny silence.

Aurora’s office was on the top floor, and it would take a while to get there by elevator. Just as Mia saw the arrow heading upwards and was about to let out a sigh of relief, her expression froze, and her face suddenly changed.

The lit button lights suddenly went out.

She instinctively looked up and saw a line of red English warning on the floor display: OUT/OF/SERVICE.

Malfunction, stopped working!

Mia was stunned. As she turned to meet Dallas’s gaze, the elevator lights went out.

Everything went pitch black.

She let out a light gasp, her body swaying slightly as the adrenaline from the sudden drop left her mind blank, and someone pulled her arm, holding her tightly in an embrace.

Dallas held her tight, quickly turned sideways, and leaned against the elevator wall.

Mia’s heart pounded, her breath quickened, her legs grew weak, and a whimper escaped her throat as she nearly broke down emotionally.

"Don’t be afraid."

Dallas said softly, raising a hand to press all the floor buttons.

The buttons flickered once and stopped again.

Just as he grew nervous, the rapidly descending elevator suddenly halted.

It hadn’t hit the ground.

The heart that was in Dallas’s throat finally settled slightly, and Mia, still in his arms, shivered with lingering fear.

In those few seconds, their clothes were soaked with sweat, and they could hear each other’s somewhat heavy breathing, filling the small space like two trapped beasts struggling in the dark.

Mia raised her hand to her chest, asking shakily, "What floor are we on?"

"I don’t know." Dallas’s voice had calmed down.

Aurora’s office is at the top, and the elevator dropped suddenly from the twenty-first floor. It happened so fast that he couldn’t calculate what floor they might be on, but since they hadn’t hit the ground, they were surely suspended in mid-air.

They were in constant danger.

Thinking of this made Dallas a bit anxious again, with a somber face, he pressed the emergency button.

Mia turned to watch him press it, a bit of light reflecting on her face, making it look deathly pale, as if she was frightened.

"It’s broad daylight, someone will notice soon, it’s alright," Dallas reassured her.

Mia nodded, reaching into her pants pocket for her phone; there was no signal. She stared blankly at it, unwilling to give up, she tried calling Aurora’s number, but the phone didn’t respond at all.

However, there was a response from the emergency button.

Dallas breathed a sigh of relief and briefly explained the situation to the outside.

As he lowered his head, his gaze fell on Mia’s phone screen that was lit up, and he saw a photo of Koa Jackson, and his expression froze.

Mia sensed it, instinctively looked up at him.
