Chapter 48: A Warm Night

Editor: Henyee Translations

"Anita, am I making things difficult for you by saying this all of a sudden? It’s okay, you can stay by yourselves if you want. I have no objections," said Sylvia when she heard that Anita was silent.

"No, Mom, I’m just afraid that Owen and I will go home too late sometimes and affect you and Dad," Anita, afraid that Sylvia would misunderstand, quickly explained.

"How could that be? How about this? Anita, you and Owen can discuss it together. You can make your own decisions," said Sylvia.

"Yes, Mother, I understand," said Anita as she listened to Sylvia.

After the two of them said their goodbyes and hung up the phone, Anita looked at the time on her phone and hesitated to send Owen a message about this.

"Owen, Mom called to ask us to stay at their home. What do you think?" Anita thought long and hard before she sent the message.

Anita waited for a long time, but there was no reply. She was going to wait for Owen to come back so they could discuss it together, but in the end, she was too sleepy and fell asleep on the sofa.

In her half-asleep state, she felt as if someone had picked her up. She opened her eyes in a daze and saw Owen’s enlarged face close to hers. She immediately sobered up and hurriedly tried to get up.

"Don’t move or you’re going to fall off," Owen whispered as he watched Anita struggle.

Only then did Anita realize that she was in Owen’s arms. Immediately, she was too afraid to move. Owen must have just come back from work. He looked exhausted, and there were dark circles under his lower eyelids.

"Did you just come back? Are you tired?" Anita asked first.

"I haven’t been working lately, so I’ve accumulated a bit of work. Why don’t you go sleep in your room?" Owen said gently while glancing at Anita.

"I was waiting for you." Anita might have been moved by Owen’s gentle voice or the current atmosphere, so she blurted out this sentence.

Owen couldn’t help but tremble as he listened to Anita’s words. He couldn’t deny that his mindset seemed to be changing.

After what Anita had said, Owen seemed to remember what he’d just seen in the living room. When he’d pushed the door open after work, he’d seen the small light in the living room brightly lit. Warm light shone on the small figure curled up on the living room sofa.

In all the years he’d lived here, Owen had never seen the room with lights on when he got home from work, nor was there someone waiting for him in the house. For a moment, he felt as if his large, empty house had become cozier.

"Don’t wait up for me again. I’ll let you know if I come back late next time," Owen said gently as he laid Anita on the bed in the master bedroom.

"By the way, did you see the message I sent you?" Anita tugged on Owen’s shirt and asked as Owen turned to leave.

Owen glanced at the hand holding his shirt. "I saw it. I’ll talk to them. Don’t worry about it. They’re all very open-minded. Don’t overthink it."

"Yeah, I know. I think your mom and dad are great. They’re nice to me, too. And you, too. You’re nice." For some reason, Anita didn’t know what was going on tonight. Everything she’d been afraid to say before seemed to come out today.

Owen froze for a long moment. It was the first time he’d ever heard her speak so bluntly, and for a moment he didn’t know how to respond.

When he finally figured out what to say, he realized that Anita was asleep again.

Owen sighed in exasperation and stepped forward. He tickled Anita’s nose and pulled the covers over her. Then he took one of his pajamas from the closet, then turned off the room light and went out.

By the time Owen finished washing up and came out, the small light in the living room was still on. The light still looked warm, and he was suddenly reluctant to turn it off.

Thus, the small light in the living room accompanied them for the night.

The next morning, after waking up, Anita froze for a few seconds. She looked around and then remembered that this was Owen’s house. Yesterday, she packed her own luggage and moved to Owen’s place, then fell asleep in the living room while waiting for Owen.

And then? Owen had carried her to the bed. In that case, wouldn’t she have slept in Owen’s room? Anita couldn’t help but pull up the covers and cover her head at the thought.

As soon as the blanket was covered, a powerful and warm musky scent that belonged to Owen wafted into Anita’s nose. Smelling this scent made her feel as if Owen was right beside her, Anita couldn’t help but blush.

"Anita, are you awake? Do you want some breakfast?" There was a few knocks on the door. It was Owen’s voice. freēwebnovel.com

Anita came out of the blanket and hurried out of bed. "Just a minute," she said while putting on her shoes frantically. "I’m already up."
