Chapter 149: Get out (5)

Beth smiled, coming out of her shock to dispute Dorothy’s ridiculous claim. "What are you talking about? Perhaps it would be best that you don’t drink anymore. Scarlet might have done something to you."

"And here I thought you wouldn’t annoy me by trying to deny it. I’m already annoyed that you had me fooled. Had me trying to ignore how you got with my son to help you with what you needed for a baby. You’ve upset me two ways," Dorothy said.

The first was getting involved with a married man and the second was lying about a baby simply to have something over Scarlet.

"You spoke about a child to get at Scarlet, didn’t you? That was quite low of you. You also fed into my son’s want to have a child. Why should I help you now, Beth?" Dorothy questioned, staring at the little fool before her.

How could Beth stoop so low and then expect someone to reach out their hand to help her?

"It was foolish of you to get rid of the home you owned before my son. Hasn’t anyone ever schooled you to keep a few things to yourself?" Dorothy asked.

Even though Dorothy didn’t plan to leave her husband anytime soon, she still had another home to her name and money put aside. There were some days her husband still annoyed her and she needed to take a break elsewhere.

Beth wasn’t as smart as she thought.

"You silly little thing. You made the mistake of placing your life in his hands. Have you not learned from others being thrown out of their homes? This is part of why I didn’t like you. You want to leech off someone. Times are changing and I want someone around who shall change with it," Dorothy said, thinking of Scarlet.

Scarlet rose to the occasion and took over her family business. It was challenging but she proved herself worthy of the position.

Dorothy touched her head as she was getting a headache just from looking at Beth. "I want you out of this town in two days. I am being gracious by not asking you to run right now. I don’t want to hear you speak of my son or my family again. Consider all that happened these last weeks to have been a dream." frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"I am pregnant with your grandchild," Beth argued. Regardless of what Dorothy assumed, it could not be proved right now that there wasn’t a child. Dorothy was only testing her. "Wasn’t being kicked out by your son enough?"

"Hardly. You also wanted me dead," Dorothy revealed that she knew.

Beth was lucky to be still standing.

"I should kill you right now," Dorothy contemplated it.

To let someone who wanted her dead leave, Dorothy would be giving them the chance to come back to kill her, succeeding a second time.

"Your drink, Lady Dorothy."

"Thank you," Dorothy accepted the drink from the butler. "Your face gives it away. You do not belong in our world, Beth. You never did from the beginning. Why would he bring you into it? That fool."

Dorothy considered sending Jack away. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

Beth’s anger grew as the butler came to her side to offer her a drink. "I cannot drink while I am pregnant. I will not fall for your trick to have me lose my baby."

Dorothy watched as Beth touched her belly as if protecting it. It was quite scary how she was believing her lie. What was Beth planning to do when the months went on? Pretend to lose the baby or get one from somewhere?

This crazy woman could not be trusted to just disappear.

"Jerry," Dorothy stopped the butler from offering Beth the drink. "Put away the drink and return to serve me."

Beth sat, trying to figure out how Dorothy learned of her plans. Had Chester betrayed her? Why wasn’t she dead if Dorothy knew?

It was a mistake to come here and it was time to leave. Going back to plead her case to Jack was better than this.

Beth stood up, ready to make her exit. "You always find a way to compare me to Scarlet. Now you speak of lies. I shouldn’t have come here."

"Sit back down, Beth. We are not done here," said Dorothy.

Where was Beth’s common sense to think she could lie and want to kill someone and then walk away as she pleased? Whatever Beth did from now on would come as an order from Dorothy.

"You cannot prove all of these lies-"

"I can call upon the family doctor but then you might cry and say you lost the child. Wouldn’t you? Sit down," Dorothy said, soon at her limit to playing nice.

The day was going well and Dorothy wasn’t going to allow Beth to spoil it.

Beth remained standing. What more did she need to say to Dorothy when Dorothy was just going to accuse her of all these things? Dorothy wasn’t of any help to her and she had to get as far away from this old hag as possible.

"I have nothing more to say to you. You are the reason Jack is the way he is right now," Beth said, placing the blame on Dorothy. Dorothy placed a lot of blame on her for Jack’s previous marriage ending so it was only fair that she do this.

As Beth tried to walk away, she was unexpectedly held by someone.

Dorothy enjoyed her drink as Beth tried to fight against Jerry. He deserved a raise for always knowing what was on her mind. "Did you think you could walk in here after trying to kill me and I would just let you leave when you want to? You should have taken the offer when you had the chance."

"You are too hungry for money to leave us quietly and I don’t want to let you out of my sight for you to pay someone else to try to kill me. I would be the fool then. I will be kind to you and look after you until the child you claim to have is here. Jerry, take our guest to a room and lock her there," said Dorothy.

Dorothy smiled while Beth could not believe what she heard. "Didn’t you come to me seeking shelter? You little fool. You did not know the trouble you were getting yourself into when you decided to lie and most importantly, want to kill me. I shall make you be forgotten as quickly as your name once popped up in papers."

"Unhand me!" Beth yelled, trying to fight against the butler. This was low of Dorothy to have the butler treat her this way. "I will not stay here. I did not try to kill you. You are making up lies."

"Be as loud as you want, Beth. There is no one close by to hear you. I am being kind to offer you a place to rest your head for the next few months and save you from Jack wanting to harm you for lying to him. Jerry, I do not want to hear any noise," Dorothy said as Beth’s voice wasn’t to her liking.

"Yes, Lady Dorothy."

Beth couldn’t believe the turn of events from coming here. Dorothy was supposed to help her not lock her away. "You cannot do this to me."

Dorothy ignored Beth telling her what she could not do. "Now, what to do about that doctor?"
