Chapter 148: Get out (4)

Beth arrived at Dorothy’s home, ready to tell her story of the kind of man her son was. They would not be getting rid of her so easily. Beth tried to get the tears to start as she walked to the door. Another woman could not ignore seeing a pregnant woman in tears, crying over a man who didn’t want to take care of his responsibility.

Dorothy might be an old hag but she had a heart when it came to the baby. Dorothy’s help today would be the last gift to Beth before Chester would have her killed.

Before Beth could knock on the door, the butler came out as if he was expecting her arrival. Had Jack called ahead to get them to not take her visit?

"I came to speak with Lady Dorothy," Beth said.

"The lady is just returning from her trip out. You must wait to see if she will accept you," the butler answered.

Beth smiled as it worked in her favour that Dorothy had not been home to receive a call from Jack. This would be the first time the story was told to her so Beth could twist it in her favour.

Beth watched as the butler walked down the steps to go to the carriage coming toward them. It was just her luck that Dorothy was returning now so she didn’t need to wait. An hour from now she should be back in the home with Jack as it should be.

Beth waited by the door instead of going down to greet Dorothy. It was too much of a walk in her opinion. Dorothy already had the butler and the other servants going out to greet her so why should she join them?

Dorothy smiled as she exited the carriage. What had she done to deserve a visit from the woman trying to kill her?

Still, it was a welcomed sight so she could deal with Beth and send her off right away.

Dorothy took her time moving from the carriage to the front door. Since Beth didn’t move to greet her as she left her carriage, Dorothy didn’t make any effort to greet Beth as she walked by her. She could lack manners a few times when others lacked them.

"Old bat," Beth muttered, following Dorothy inside. Was it wrong of her to want to kill Dorothy when the woman was this way? There wasn’t a need to be this rude. "Dorothy, how are you?"

"Let’s not do the fake greetings and just speak about why you are here. It isn’t like you to come visit me without my son. What is the trouble now?" Dorothy asked, knowing Beth wasn’t here to bond.

"It is trouble from Jack. He has asked that I leave the home that we share. He has no interest in keeping the mother of his child safe and sent me off without anything. All because I asked that he stop getting too involved in Scarlet’s personal life," Beth said, trying her best to sound pitiful.

"Well, he certainly should stop getting involved in Scarlet’s life since she has moved on. She is doing well. I just enjoyed a cup of tea with her," Dorothy revealed purposely to upset Beth.

Beth couldn’t believe her ears that Dorothy would meet with Scarlet. Why were they all so stuck in the past? Scarlet was not the one Dorothy should be visiting. She was! "It is quite odd for you to be visiting Scarlet. If you meet with her, Jack would think that it is fine for him to do it."

Beth couldn’t help the feeling that they were all plotting to get Scarlet back by Jack’s side. Dorothy might be the mastermind behind this and Jack was simply following her. It didn’t make sense for Jack who loved her to be turning against her all of a sudden. That seemed more of a plan put together by Dorothy.

Dorothy chuckled as again, someone thought they could tell her what to do. "I can do as I please. Do not put what my son does on me. He is involved in Scarlet’s life because he wants to. She was once his wife. It is hard for him to forget about him though we all wish he would."

"So he kicked you out. Why did you come here?" Dorothy questioned. She had plenty of rooms to spare but not one for Beth. "You had a home before my son, did you not? I hope you weren’t a fool to get rid of it. You must always have something to fall back on."

"I didn’t need to keep it since I was starting a life with Jack. Do you not care that me and the child inside of me have nowhere to go? Jack has reached a new low by kicking me out. And he is flirting with the servants. What is so funny?" Beth questioned as Dorothy laughed.

"He cheated on his wife with you. What did you think made you so special that it would end with you? Those cheating men never stop and women like you think there is a fairytale waiting at the end of the affair," Dorothy replied.

Beth couldn’t take Dorothy’s reaction to what was being told any longer. "You sound pleased that he would cheat on me."

"I am not. I only find it funny you would expect something different. I am not happy with his actions, but what can I do? Scarlet was smart enough to leave him while you wanted to cling to him. Is that not why you are here? Do you want me to hold him and beat him? You see what he is so if you do not like it, then leave," Dorothy advised Beth.

Dorothy stayed with her problems and put up with it, not complaining about it because it was her choice. Beth shouldn’t bother anyone else about Jack’s actions if she was going to stay.

"I must say that you should take his offer to leave now. I wouldn’t want to witness his temper when he finds out that you were lying about being pregnant. Jerry!" Dorothy called the butler. "We’ll need something strong to drink poured for us."

Beth stared at Dorothy in disbelief. She was too stunned to defend herself right away and tell Dorothy that what she said was nonsense. freeweɓnovel.cøm

"I like that you are silent. Having to listen to you trying to convince me would have irritated me. Now, why don’t we sit and talk about how you are going to quietly leave my son like he told you to? For that lie and the fact you want me dead, I think you should have nothing to say," said Dorothy.
