Chapter 150: Spend the night (1)

"Welcome back, Mr. Ian."

"It is good to see you again, Florence. You don’t need to refer to me as mister. Does this request upset you?" Ian questioned since she smiled when he said it, but it was more like she was uncomfortable.

"I have a way of addressing the lady’s guest. I don’t mean to remind you of your father but there is a way I do things and it is hard to change unless the lady asks. If you don’t mind, I would like to ask a favour considering the lady," Florence said as she closed the door behind Ian.

She continued, "I might be stepping far out of line here, but it is because I care for her. She has been working all day since her guest left and I am worried because she felt a little warm earlier. If you do not mind, could you please get the lady to rest?" freewebnovёl.ƈom

"Certainly," Ian replied. "You might need to have some ropes ready because she might put up a fight. I shall yell if I am losing."

"Thank you. Shall I have a pot put on for tea?" Florence asked.

"If you have something that works well for when one is sick, then you can put on hot water and I will come down to make it," said Ian.

"The lady is in her office. I shall knock on the door when the water is ready. Excuse me," Florence said, wanting to get the water on now.

Ian headed up to the second floor to find Scarlet. It was time that she had a break whether she liked it or not. He was joking about the rope, but if needed, he would ask Florence to bring him a few.

When Ian reached Scarlet’s office, he knocked on the door and waited for permission to enter. There wasn’t a response after the first knock, or the second, or the third.

"Did she leave?" Ian wondered, looking around for where Scarlet might have gone. Before returning to Florence to search for Scarlet, Ian opened the door.

He found Scarlet resting her head on her desk. Scarlet couldn’t argue now that she didn’t need a break. Scarlet’s bedroom wasn’t that long of a walk from here. Was she planning to rest for a moment and then get back to work?

"I didn’t say you could enter," Scarlet spoke.

"I thought you were asleep," Ian answered, impressed.

"I was but your footsteps are too loud. Have you come here to eat my food again? Or is it to bother me?" Scarlet asked, sitting up as she had to get back to work.

Ian eyed how she reached for a paper, ready to work like she wasn’t just sleeping. Ian went around the desk and sat on it to the right of Scarlet. "Scarlet, don’t look at me that way. You need to rest. You have Florence concerned."

"I am almost done and then I can get ready for dinner. The hotel is meant to have a big event coming soon and my grandparents might be attending. There is a lot to look over so I am quite busy. So busy that I might throw you out if you steal my work," Scarlet said, taking the paper Ian picked up from his hands.

"I haven’t met them yet, but I am certain your grandparents would want you to rest and place this in the hands of someone else. Why do you have so many employees if you must work this hard?" Ian asked.

"They’ve done their part. I am only looking over to see what we can improve. What are you doing?" Scarlet asked as his hand was suddenly on her forehead.

"You are warm."

"Well, the room is warm. It was a bit windy earlier so I closed the windows. I am not sick and I will not have you try to convince me," Scarlet said, knowing her body better than anyone. "Since you are here, open the windows to bring a breeze in and would you mind taking your buttocks off my desk? Must you ruin this room?" freёwebnovel.com

Ian stood up to open one of the windows. "I would let you sit on my desk."

"For a different reason I am sure," said Scarlet.

"You are the one to say it, not me. Scarlet, while I admire how hard you work, you must take care of yourself. Does work come before everything else?" Ian asked, hoping it was not the case.

"It," Scarlet stopped herself as she thought of something.

It was a previous complaint that she worked too hard. One of the reasons why she took fault in not being the greatest wife.

Scarlet looked down at all the papers on the desk. What if she were to make that mistake again and Ian would grow bored of it or her? She did not want to make the same mistakes again so perhaps she should try to lessen how much she worked.

It was early in their relationship, but Ian had made quite a mention of taking a break. He was fine with everything else but highlighted this often.

"Very well. I will take a look at this tomorrow and visit the hotel. That is all the work I have to do tomorrow. Are you satisfied?" Scarlet questioned, standing up from her seat to face Ian.

"It is not about me being satisfied. It is about you getting all the rest you need, but I do enjoy knowing that I was persuasive. It isn’t the room, Scarlet. You are sick and need to rest before it turns into something more. Forgive me," Ian said, sweeping Scarlet off her feet. "Be glad that I didn’t get the rope to tie you up with."

"You are quite bold to come onto my estate and do this, Ian. I could have your head for this," Scarlet joked. She placed her hands around his neck to prevent falling. Should she hit the floor, she just might have his head.

Ian wasn’t afraid. "You wouldn’t try to hurt me. Not when you finally have a man you can stomach around you."

"There are plenty of men in this town and kingdom."

"Yet they were not successful in getting your attention. Do you mind getting the door for me?" Ian asked, his hands too full to do it himself.

Scarlet opened the door. "If I have to bear with Alana making jokes about this, I shall ban you from coming here for the next three days."

"Go ahead. I would love to see you regret that decision and cling to me when I come back around. Might you be so kind as to throw yourself on me then and just kiss me until I get bored of it?" Ian inquired.

Again, Scarlet didn’t know what to make of Ian. How was the man such a hopeless romantic? "I am not the kind of woman to throw myself at you so do not expect it. The least I can do is say that I missed you if that were true. Perhaps I am not the woman for you-"

Ian kissed her to stop her from speaking nonsense. He liked her just as she was now. "Each time you say something that you shouldn’t, I shall make better use of your mouth."
