Chapter 211: Chapter 210 - Benefit

Point-of-View: Anarchy/Liling Jin

"I have to say, it’s quite bold of you to call me out like this, that’s never happened before," Came an amused voice, as a figure stepped out of the portal.

He was tall and lanky, with long arms that went down past his knees, dark grey leathery skin, his eyes were entirely black and darker at the center, meeting his gaze felt like staring into a void.

He had sharp teeth, spiked up ink-black hair and a long, flexible tail, and wore baggy white trousers, while his torso and feet were bare.

"Wow, you’re quite a sight, aren’t you?" I greeted him with a grin. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"And you’re quite a bold human, I’ve been quite amused by your antics. However, I’m not one to take sides. I am an observer, who occasionally gets in on the action in whichever way I decide would be the most fun. Sure, I might help Hell out if they invade the living world again, but I’m not one for commitments...if I decide that, halfway through, it’ll be more fun to betray Hell and switch sides, I’ll do just that," He remarked indifferently.

"I can’t say I dislike that way of thinking, impulsive, unpredictable, and most of all, chaotic. I’d say we’re not too dissimilar," I replied with a smirk.

"I suppose so, but we’re not particularly similar either. You are committed to chaos, you may make impulsive decisions, but your bottom line never changes. That’s the difference between you and I...not counting the obvious difference in power and ability, of course," He responded with a shrug.

"Hey, side note, is it just me, or does anyone else think that ’bottom line’ could be a synonym for butt crack?" Laughed Afro in amusement.

"Oh, that’s a good one, I might steal that some time," Chuckled Laplace, before shifting his attention to Dracula, "It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Remember the time I stole your heart and left you breathless?"

"Wait, what?" Responded Wrest in bemusement.

"Take that literally. He used a portal to tear out my heart from the inside, and then severed my esophagus from my lungs," Sighed Dracula in exasperation.

Ooh, nice, that sounds freaking hardcore.

"No need to be so salty about it, you recovered, like, a couple of seconds later," Pointed out Laplace. freёwebnoѵel.com

"Just because I can heal does not mean that I do not feel pain!" Snapped Dracula indignantly.

"Oh, it was centuries ago, get over it."

"Why, you-...!?"

"Hey, calm down, he’s just trying to goad you," Chimes in Camelia, patting his back.

"Well, anyway, this was fun and all, but I think I’m gonna get back to my observing. There’s a rather fascinating case of infidelity in Saudi Arabia that I’ve been following, riveting stuff," Remarked Laplace, looking bored as he opened a portal.

"Wait, if I might make a suggestion...how about you go attack some place? Either a direct attack on Harmony, or a random country, it doesn’t really matter. Think about it, one attack is all it’s gonna take to make everyone in the world worry, they’ll be paranoid for weeks!" I suggested with a grin.

"Eh, sounds like more effort than it’s worth. But I suppose I’ll consider it," He mused, as he slipped into the portal and left.

"It’s entirely possible that we’ll never see him again, it could be centuries before he decides to make a move again," Said Dracula wearily.

"On another note, how much longer do we gotta be cooped up? I wanna go out, pick up some girls, get some bottom line, if you know what I mean," Sighed Afro wistfully.

"It’s too risky, so just stay put," Responded Glenn with a look of exasperation.

"Yeah, just try and seduce someone in-house...like, how about Arisu?" I suggested, nodding at her.

"No, thanks, not my type," She shook her head firmly.

"Hey, that’s racist," He responded indignantly.

"I was talking about your personality."

"Oh. Well, uh, that’s judgemental! And just FYI, I’ve got what’s called a BBC."

"Don’t care."

"Guess that’s a bust. What about you?" Inquired Afro with a defeated sigh, as he glanced at me.

"Nah, I’m good. Maybe another time," I shook my head.

Yeah, I’m not really looking to get laid at the moment. Though I might have considered it if I hadn’t been the second choice.

"Just go and mingle with some of our subordinates, he can take you to one of the other hideouts where they are later," Dracula nodded at Glenn, as Afro shifted his gaze over to Camelia.

Ooh, someone’s protective.

"Dick move, throwing me under the bus like that," Grumbled Glenn with an annoyed look on his face.

"Yeah, that works for me! Take me right now!" Grinned Afro eagerly, shaking Glenn’s shoulders.

"Maybe later, I’m-..."

"Oh, come on, what’s the big deal? It takes you, like, a second to open a portal!" Afro urged him impatiently.

Huh, I wonder if it’s a common thing with portal users, to be reluctant to use their portals when it’s not for something important?

"Fine, whatever, just go away," Sighed Glenn, as he opened a portal beneath Afro’s feet, who let out a startled yelp as he fell through it, before Glenn shut the portal, "There, some peace and quiet. Plus, a dramatic entrance, he better be grateful."

He sure has come out of his shell, he used to be a lot more quiet. I mean, he always had the same attitude, but he used to keep his thoughts to himself a lot more before.

Maybe being around so many loudmouths has rubbed off on him. Heh, I bet he won’t be too pleased if I point that out.

I have to say, I really like this group, it’s been fun. It’s too bad we have to lay low for a while now, I’d really like to go out and stir things up. But I suppose, since over two billion people have been killed recently, the world could use a bit of a break before our next grand endeavor...

"Now, take this!" I exclaimed, as Bastet’s claws gashed my left shoulder as I closed in on him, partially evading the thrust of his claws.

As I drew back my arm and he began to spring back, I swiftly swung my head forward, aiming to headbutt him, my drawn-back arm working as a feint.

But he managed to jump back in time, my forehead grazing his snout as he backed away and got some distance.

"Hm, that was quite close," He mused, as he touched at his nose, right as Alexis sprang up behind him with her right leg bent and arched back.

He swiftly ducked as she swung her leg across at his head, before she fired a charged up lightning bolt down at the back of his head as he got low.

He responded by forming a barrier to block the lightning, right as she began glowing with an electric hue, lightning crackling around her as she let out a powerful burst of lightning from her entire body.

He zipped away in alarm, the tip of his tail getting zapped slightly, a displeased look on his face as he glanced at the burnt fur on his tail.

Today’s the 16th of October, and it’d been about three weeks since he began training us. I’m able to regularly evade his attacks and react to his speed now, but landing my own attacks is still a real challenge.

I’m yet to land a proper hit on him, it takes all I’ve got just to graze him. Alexis hasn’t been evading as well as I have, but she’s landing attacks better than I’ve been able to.

"Damn it, so close," She sighed wistfully, as she kept her eyes on him.

"Indeed...if it weren’t for my barrier, I would have sustained a lot more damage," Remarked Bastet with a frown.

"Couldn’t you have just surrounded yourself with a barrier sphere?" I asked him.

"The larger the barrier, the more time it takes to form. Previously, it would have been quite easy to do so, but both your attacks are faster and sharper than before, so a simple barrier wall is all I am able to conjure in time," He explained in response.

Well, that’s pretty encouraging.

"Nice, and most other Deities don’t have such defensive powers, right?" Inquired Alexis with a grin.

"Correct, you are both now at a level where you could inflict damage on lesser Deities. The Dragons and Rival Deities are still beyond your capabilities, but I must say, your progress and improvement have been very impressive," Surmised Bastet with a nod of approval.

"Ohh, yeah, that’s what I like to hear! Hey, at this rate, maybe we’ll end up even stronger than you," Smirked Alexis tauntingly.

"You believe so? That won’t do, it would appear that you underestimate me. Very well, then...from this point on, I shall fight with all my power. I will no longer hold back," Declared Bastet, as he partially unleashed his Aura, likely as an intimidation tactic.

"Maybe you should’ve kept quiet," I said to Alexis wryly.

"Nah, it’s fine...challenge accepted!" She responded with a determined look on her face.

Guess she’s got the right attitude...if he attacks us more earnestly, we’ll have to step things up too. There’s no doubt that his training has been extremely effective...but there’s no telling how much longer he’ll indulge us, so we need to make sure we maximize how much we benefit from this...
