"Hey, you okay? You seem kinda restless," I remarked, as I approached Zoraiz.
"I don’t know, I just...I feel sort of antsy. I’m glad we’re not being sent out again right away, but still, there’s a lot to worry about," He sighed in response.
It was the next day, the 23rd of September, and to my immense relief, we hadn’t been sent out on any Monster extermination assignments, not even Aurora.
Instead, Harmony put out instructional videos on how to control Aura, output and use Skill powers, though some people had taken to using guns and stuff, which were fairly effective against weaker Monsters.
Additionally, a lot of Deities had popped up in several areas, including more of the Dragon Deities, and they were all killing the Monsters in their vicinities. But, if anything, they were only making the human death toll worse, since they didn’t hold back at all, barring a few exceptions.
The Monster outbreaks have slowed down slightly, but there were still plenty of them showing up all over the world. It’s only been a day, and the estimated death toll is already said to be over a hundred million, though it could be a whole lot more, it’s not exactly easy to keep track of such an alarmingly rapid death rate.
"It’s probably only gonna get worse from here, huh?" I replied, as I sat down beside him.
He was sitting in front of the stream by the waterfall, tossing small stones into the water and looking very fidgety.
"Millions upon millions were killed in just a day...it’s kinda hard to wrap my head around exactly how immense those numbers are."
Yeah, he’s right about that...I feel like it still hasn’t quite sunk in just yet. A mountain of corpses in such a short time, and with no indication that that mountain is gonna stop growing any time soon...
"Even if a way to suppress the Monster outbreaks is discovered, things won’t simply just go back to normal. Everyone in the world has powers now, and that’s definitely not a good thing," I surmised grimly.
"Heh, even the best case scenario right now is a disaster. At the rate at which Monsters are appearing and Deities are awakening at, we may very well be staring down the barrel of human extinction. If we’re all gonna die, I don’t want to die before getting laid again...maybe I should go find a brothel or something," He sighed wistfully, an absent-minded look on his face.
Huh, not sure why, but that kinda annoys me.
"Yeah, uh, same here. I’d hate to die a virgin," I responded jokingly.
"Hm? Oh...yeah, that makes sense," He nodded in reply.
Oh? His expression soured a bit just then...yeah, I’m sure I didn’t imagine that. Heh, wonder what that could be about?
"What’s the matter, you don’t like that idea?" I smirked as I nudged him.
"H-huh? I never said that," He denied defensively, averting his gaze.
"Then it must have just been my imagination," I shrugged innocently, "Well, I was mostly kidding, but hey, if the end of the world is really on the horizon, I guess there’s no need to hold myself back."
What am I doing?
"Mhm, totally, you do you," He nodded, but he definitely looked kinda apprehensive...which kinda made me really happy.
"I mean, ideally...I’d like to, you know, hook up with someone I like, in a romantic sense. But it is what it is," I replied with a dramatic sigh.
Seriously, what am I doing? It feels like I’m trying to bait him...but I feel like I’m trying not to let myself think about it. Because, well, that’d be embarrassing to admit to myself...
"Yeah? So, uh...is there anyone like that?" He inquired, averting his gaze slightly.
"Hm...maybe? What about you?" I deflected, as I felt my face heat up...okay, yeah, now that I realize what I’m doing, I’m starting to lose that bravado...
"Yeah...maybe."
"Oh. Cool."
We then stared at the waterfall in silence, as I couldn’t bring myself to look him in this eye. Seriously, where’d all that confidence suddenly come from?
I can’t think of anything to say, and now that I’m thinking back on this conversation, I feel mortified. Damn it, what was I thinking!? I was being so obvious!
I basically might as well have told him that I like him! Wait, do I like him like that? Just thinking about it is making my face feel even warmer...I just want the ground to open up and swallow me.
I have no idea how to change the subject without making it even more obvious, damn it. He’s showing no signs of breaking this silence either. Well...this is awkward.

Okay, can’t put this off any longer...I’m doing this. I’ve second guessed it all day, but looking at the situation on social media, it’s clear that this isn’t getting any better, it’s only getting worse and worse.
The appearance of all these Deities have only added fuel to this fire, and so long as Monsters continue to appear, the Deities will continue to rampage relentlessly.
"Alright, then, here goes-...ahhh, I don’t know about this," I groaned to myself, as I paced around my room anxiously.
I’ve thought it through, and this may very well be the only way to douse the flames before they spread well and truly beyond the point of extinguishment.
Damn it, why the hell is this on me!? I don’t care about how many people die or whatever...and I certainly have no desire to save people or be a hero or any of that crap.
But there are things I don’t want to lose...specifically, my own life and the advancements and technology of the modern era. In other words, I want to live, and live a comfortable life at that.
And once enough people die, society will collapse, meaning that won’t be possible anymore, at least not for a really long time.
Stuff like maintaining the internet and providing electricity, people are gonna stop caring about that as their desperation and focus on survival increases. I can’t let that happen.
"Okay, let’s just rip the bandaid off and get this over with...here goes, for real this time...Space Skill: Summoning Contact[Luci-...]...nope, bad idea, not him! Space Skill: Summoning Contract[Asmodeus]!"
A rift then opened up, before the Demon stepped out with a curious and expectant look on his face, raising an eyebrow at me as the rift closed behind him.
"Ah, it’s you. This is rather sudden," He remarked as he approached me.
"Yeah, I have a request...a request for Satan. I assume you know what’s been going on in the living world in the past day or so?" I responded, getting straight to the point.
"Of course, Lord Satan has gained a good many souls to convert to Devils and Demons," He nodded in response.
"About that...I’d like to request that Satan re-strengthens the separation between the living world and the Mirror Dimension," I remarked with a nervous gulp.
"Hm, that would be quite the simple matter for him. Well, I can request an audience with him for you, but whether or not you are able to convince him will be entirely upto you," He replied after mulling it over.
"That’s good enough for now. So, then-..."
"Not so fast, darling. I will not simply help you for free," He smirked in response.
Damn it...well, fine, let’s just hope that whatever he wants from me is something that I can give...
"Okay, what do you want, exactly?" I inquired warily.
"Oh, do the math. You do know which Sin I represent, don’t you?" He replied with a gleam in his eyes.
Hm? He’s the Sin of Lust, so-...oh. Ohhhh, crap.
"Uh...I’m not into guys, so...," I trailed off nervously.
"Ah, not a problem, that is an easy fix," He shrugged, as his body suddenly changed to a more feminine shape, his voice softening as well as he added, "As the Demon Sin of Lust, changing the gender of my body is but a simple task."
Figures. Well, I still kinda see him as a guy, despite the curvy body...but if that’s what it’s gonna take, then...damn it, Satan had better agree to my request if this is what it’s gonna take to get an audience with him!
Maybe summoning this guy was a mistake...I definitely stand by my decision not to summon Lucifer, but maybe my best bet would’ve been to summon Beelzebub.
"Are you, uh, are you sure there’s nothing else I can do for you instead?" I sighed in response.
"No, I have made up my mind. Take it or leave it, your call."
Well, fuck.
"Alright...f-fine. Let’s get this over with."
