"I can’t move so much as a finger," I muttered with a strained sigh.
"I’ve never been this sore in my life, my everything hurts," Spoke up Zoraiz wearily.
"I second that," Added Alexis in agreement.
It was several hours after the Monster outbreaks suddenly got drastically worse in the blink of an eye, as a bunch of people suddenly and inexplicably awakened their Auras. Well, inexplicable at the time, anyway.
I’d been running dangerously low on Aura while trying to deal with the Monsters, right before Neo showed up and portaled me back to the campsite, where Zoraiz, Alexis, Fenris, X, the twins and Adelmira had already been brought back to.
And it wasn’t long after that that I found out what exactly was going on, and why normal humans had suddenly awakened as Metas simultaneously...Liling had uploaded a video that she’d live streamed, claiming that every single person in the world had now awakened their Meta genes.
This is an absolute disaster. Every single place where even a single person is residing in is now in danger of attracting Monsters. There’s no telling how many people have died already...they might be able to fight back, but not very well.
The potency of a person’s powers when their Aura is controlled and when it’s not is a huge difference, and unlike us Outliers, who received a tremendous amount of power through the Meta-Orbs, giving us immense Aura capacities and high maximum outputs, all the people who are currently experiencing their awakenings are likely to have much, much lower Aura capacities and maximum outputs.
"Damn her, what the hell was she thinking with this?" Frowned Alexis in frustration, as she slammed her fist onto the grass.
We were all currently sprawled on the ground in our exhaustion, completely spent.
"So, now what? There’s absolutely no way that Harmony can deal with every single Monster that’s shown up," Sighed X wistfully.
"True, but I think it’s only a matter of time before that becomes unnecessary. If it’s really true that the presence of Monsters is what awakened the Pyro Dragon Deity, then it stands to reason that at least some of the other Deities will soon awaken too," Pointed out Fenris objectively.
"Maybe so, but that won’t be enough," Suddenly came Neo’s voice, as he appeared along with Aurora, who looked just as exhausted as the rest of us.
"What do you mean by that?" Inquired Dieter in response.
"First off, even if every single one of them awaken, there aren’t enough Deities to cover the entire world even with their Auras fully unleashed. There’ll be plenty of blind spots where Monster outbreaks will thrive.
Secondly, most Deities don’t really care about protecting humans. While they will kill any Monsters they encounter, they won’t hold back if any humans happen to be in the crossfire. They won’t deliberately go after any humans unless provoked, but they also won’t bother to take care in preventing human casualties," He surmised with a frown. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
"Indeed, I can confirm that," Chimed in Bastet, who was sitting up on a high tree branch.
"Then, what’s Harmony going to do about this mess?" Adelmira asked Neo curiously.
"Honestly? No clue. It goes without saying that this is an unprecedented situation. All these Monsters, the potential awakening of the Deities, the threat of Hell, and Chaos awakening the Meta genes in every person on the planet...way too much is happening all at once," He sighed, looking stressed out.
"I’ve noticed this ever since these current Monster outbreaks first began, from before all the Meta gene awakenings...rifts between our world and the Mirror Dimension seem to be opening a lot easier," Spoke up Aurora.
"Ah, that is probably because the denizens of Hell have been entering this world frequently as of late. Heaven, Hell, what you call the Mirror Dimension, and the living world...all of these dimensions are strictly seperate, so when one is frequently breached by another, the bounds seperating it from the other dimensions grows weaker and weaker," Explained Bastet in response.
Oh. That explains a lot...including what Liling meant in her recent live stream, that these Monster outbreaks have been an unintended side effect, though she didn’t say of what.
"You could’ve informed us of that a lot sooner," Sighed Neo is exasperation.
"On the contrary, I have no such obligation to do so," Responded the Deity indifferently.
"I don’t suppose there’s any way to strengthen the seperation between our world and the Mirror Dimension, is there?" Chimed in Zoraiz warily.
"Intervention from God or Satan can block the Mirror Dimension from leaking out into this world, at least with the weaker Monsters. But that is unlikely to happen. With time, the separation will go back to normal, but that is assuming that no more Demons enter this world," Replied Bastet with a shrug.
"I get why Satan wouldn’t intervene, but why wouldn’t God help?" Asked Alexis with a frown.
"Because God prefers not to interfere in matters of the living world, and is indifferent to the Mirror Dimension. The only exception is if Satan himself entered the living world by creating a bridge between it and Hell, that is the only situation in which God and Heaven will intervene," Remarked Bastet, before adding with a bored yawn, "I grow tired of these questions. None of this knowledge will help you stop these Monster outbreaks to begin with, so there is no use in it."
With that, he bounded away across the treetops, heading deeper into the forest.
"Unfortunately, he’s not wrong. Alright, I’m gonna go rescue the rest of our Meta-Humans that are still fighting, assuming they’re not dead. I should also go report the Witch that showed up in Russia," Muttered Neo, as he opened a portal and left, dragging his feet with a worn out look on his face.
"Wait, a Witch?" I responded in bemusement.
"Yeah, one showed up while I was fighting, she helped me out. Her powers were strange though, she had no Aura, and when she used attacks, those Magic Circle things you see in games and stuff appeared," Replied Aurora, as she flopped onto the grass with a tired sigh.
"Woah, for real? I’d have liked to have seen that," Remarked Zoraiz in fascination.
"She left as soon as Neo showed up and said we’re retreating," Said Aurora, as she stared up at the sky with a stifled yawn.
"Witches are known for their secrecy, there’s hardly any information regarding them and their powers," Chimed in X.
"As far as I know, all Demi-Humans are reclusive and tend to live in hiding. Werewolves certainly do, as do Vampires and Witches. And I’ve never seen an Elf. But it’s gonna be tough to continue to stay in hiding with all these Monsters around," Mused Fenris thoughtfully.
"Not necessarily. With literally billions of humans now having unleashed, uncontrolled Auras, the Monsters will primarily be drawn to them, right?" Pointed out Petra.
"Yeah, a lot of people are dying right now...social media is pure chaos right now," I remarked, as I scrolled through dozens of posts and clips of people running around in a panic, bloodied and stepping over countless corpses.
"I guess that’s probably what Liling was after, huh?" Sighed Alexis with a grimace.
She really did have us all fooled. Hm?
"Woah...check it out, I think this is another Deity, look," I said to the others, as I sat up and showed them my screen, a picture of a massive gorilla-like beast.
"Looks like it’s already started...the Deities are awakening," Frowned X with a look of concern...

"You sure this is what you wanted?" Inquired Wrest with a grimace.
"Chill out, since when are you so sensible?" I countered with a shrug, before adding, "I mean, sure, the current situation is a bit more chaotic than I’d anticipated, but hey, that’s fine by me."
"Yeah, and look on the bright side, at least the Monsters aren’t showing up here anymore," Added Afro in agreement.
"Mhm, and it’s too late to go back now anyway. I can’t undo the awakening of the Meta genes, after all," I pointed out.
"Well, at this rate, not only will the vast majority of the world’s population be dead soon, but all the dormant Deities will awaken too. Once that happens, Hell will be much less of a threat," Wrest frowned in response.
"That’s fine by me. My goal was never to see a world ruled by Hell, I just want to see a real war. Deities versus Demons...now, that sounds like one hell of a war, pun intended!" I exclaimed with a grin.
"But what’s the point if there’ll be no one left in the end? What’s the point if you’re not alive to witness it?" He countered in exasperation.
"Oh, I get it, you’re only putting up a fuss because your own chances of survival are dropping, right?" I surmised with a smirk.
"Yeah, and so what if I am? I’m all for causing chaos, but this is just ridiculous, the situation is spiraling way out of control. I’m sure at least some of the others will agree," He continued to argue.
He’s probably right about that...I can’t imagine that Dracula is too happy with this situation, he’s made it clear that he doesn’t want to get involved against any Deities.
"Whether you’re right about this or not, really doesn’t matter. After all, we can’t stop Monsters from appearing," I shrugged in response.
"Forget it. I’ll just deal with this myself," He relented, as he stormed out of the room.
"You gonna stop him?" Inquired Afro curiously.
"Of course, not. He’s free to do exactly as he pleases...that’s what Chaos is all about, after all."
