Chapter 190: Chapter 189 - Endless
Point-of-View: Aurora Pretorius
———————————————————————————
"That takes care of that, finally," I sighed wearily, as I finished off the last of the Monsters in this area.
Today’s the 22nd of September, a couple of days after that Dragon Deity showed up in Hawaii. So far, there haven’t been any other Deities appearing, but it’s probably only a matter of time before they do.
I was currently in Saint Petersburg in Russia, along with one of the Category 0s, Maeve Murphy, and a bunch of Category 1s, dealing with a Monster outbreak that had occurred in a crowded shopping district.
A lot of people were dead, but there was nothing we could’ve done...with so many people around and Monsters appearing out of several spots, saving everyone was impossible.
"I really worked up an appetite...I could use a bite to eat," Remarked Maeve, as she walked over.
"Seriously? All these corpses have totally killed my appetite," I responded wryly.
"Fair enough, I guess. I’m sort of numb to it at this point, especially since that massacre of Eden."
"Anyway, we should contact Neo and-...," I began, before trailing off as I suddenly sensed several Auras unleashing all around me, "Huh? What’s going on?"
"Think it’s Chaos, or maybe some of Eden’s abandoned members?" Frowned Maeve warily.
"Something isn’t right here...these Auras feel uncontrolled," I replied with a grimace.
"Yeah, now that you mention it there isn’t any real pressure to them, I only noticed because there’s so many...what’s going on here?" She muttered, looking around suspiciously.
"This is really bad...more Monsters are being drawn out!" I realized in alarm, as several rifts appeared all around us.
"Uh-oh...there’s way more now than there were when we arrived," She stated grimly.
I glanced around as exclaims of alarm and fear began to ring out around us, from the remaining civilians in this area...my eyes then widened, as I realized where the Auras we were sensing were coming from...
"Hey...these people, they can see the Monsters now, even though they definitely couldn’t before. And the Auras, they’re coming from them!" I exclaimed in disbelief.
"Huh? No way, that can’t be right!" She responded in shock.
"N-no, stay away!" Suddenly yelled a man, as a Monster approached him...the Monsters, they’re not ignoring the people, there’s no doubt about it...they’ve all suddenly become Meta-Humans!
As I began to shoot towards the Monster, a Goblin, I halted in bewilderment as the man suddenly burst out a bolt of lightning in his panic, striking the Goblin and sending it stumbling back in a daze.
"How on earth is this happening right now?" Remarked Maeve in bemusement, wide-eyed.
"Let’s worry about that later, we need to deal with these Monsters! We have no choice but to spread out, find clear areas and then unleash our own Auras to draw them towards us," I surmised, before taking off as she nodded in agreement, unleashing my Aura once I was away from any people in sight.
Sure enough, several Monsters came barreling towards me in response, from every direction. I swiftly formed several shadowy bladed whips from my Shadow Cat, rapidly extending them out and swinging them across all around me, slicing several of the Monsters apart.
I then glanced up as a loud snarl echoed out above me, as a Wind Wyvern swooped down towards me, blasting out a powerful gust of wind from its jaws. That’s a Prime-Tier Monster, the same danger rating as a Viciousaur.
I swiftly expanded the hands and arms of my Shadow Cat immensely, using them as shields to block the wind blast, before extending several streaks out towards the Wyvern and rapidly wrapping them around its body, restraining it as I charged up a Negative Blast.
Right as I took aim and fired, it managed to break free from my shadowy streaks and zipped out of the way of my Negative Blast, which struck its left back foot and broke it, eliciting a growl of pain from the Monster.
As an Ogre sprang up behind me with its fists raised, letting out a deep, aggressive bellow, I whipped the tail of my Shadow Cat across at its neck as I narrowed and sharpened my tail, slicing off its head before swinging my right foot back and kicking its decapitated body back, which fell onto a couple of smaller Monsters behind it, crushing them.
I them swung my arms across as a Cyclops and a Lizardman sprang up on either side of me, grabbing their heads before they could attack and then swinging my arms in simultaneously, slamming their heads against each other and crushing them, before quickly springing back as the Wyvern swooped down towards me and slammed its front feet onto the ground with a roar.
I swung my right arm across while simultaneously extending my Shadow Cat, striking the Wyvern’s face and leaving three deep slashes across the left side of its jaw.
It let out an enraged snarl before firing out another blast of wind at me, which I swiftly dissipated with a rapid swing of my left arm, firing out a Negative Slash at the Wyvern using the tail of my Shadow Cat.
It flew up in response, evading my attack, before I rapidly extended the arms of my Shadow Cat up towards its and grabbed its hind legs with a tight grip, eliciting a roar of pain as I twisted its broken foot, and then swung it down at the ground with all my strength.
The Monster slammed onto the ground with immense force, several cracks spreading out as it struck the ground, before I rapidly swung it across as I spotted more Monsters making their way towards me, hitting them with the Wyvern and sending them flying across, going splat as they crashed onto some nearby buildings.
I then let go of one of the Wyvern’s legs as it began to charge up a wind blast, swiftly plunging the freed arm of my Shadow Cat into its jaws and down its throat, rapidly tearing its insides apart before it could get away.
As I violently yanked my shadowy arm out of its mouth, blood burst out and streamed down the sides of its jaws, as it stumbled back on agony, before collapsing onto the ground as it bled out profusely.
I then grimaced in frustration as I spotted several more Monsters making their way towards me...damn it, there’s just no end to them!
Do I really have to keep fighting endlessly? My Aura and stamina will slowly but surely get depleted more and more the longer this goes on for, and I’m not seeing any end in sight. And if I suppress my Aura, the Monsters will just go after everyone else...this really sucks.
Why the hell did all those regular people suddenly awaken their Auras and become Meta-Humans, what’s going on here!? Damn it, I don’t have any time to ponder!
I sprang back as a Monster leapt at me with a roar, extending out a sharp shadowy spike towards it, which it inadvertently jumped right into, getting pierced through the throat, before I swung it’s body across and flung it at another Monster, knocking it away.
I then swiftly raced across towards the Monsters at top speed, extending out several slashing whips from my Shadow Cat and tearing the Monsters apart...it’s a good thing that the majority of these are weaker Monsters, despite their immense numbers, they’re individually not much to be concerned about.
But, goddammit, they just keep coming! More are already on their way towards me...this is starting to wear me out mentally, I’m still fine physically speaking, but the frustration is starting to build.
Suddenly, a powerful blast of lightning burst out from above, frying several of the Monsters and killing them, as the air crackled with electricity...strange, that didn’t seem like an Electro Skill attack, something about it feels different.
I then glanced up, to see a woman floating in mid air. She had long blonde hair and golden eyes, on the taller side, and her build hidden by a flowing black cloak.
She’s not using the Aero Skill to fly, and...I’m using Appraisal, but I don’t see an Aura. What’s going on here? freēwebnovel.com
"Hi, there, hope you don’t mind me intervening," She greeted me, with a slight Russian accent.
"Who are you? No, more importantly...what are you?" I frowned suspiciously, as she flew down and landed in front of me.
"I’m a Witch, my name is Irina," She introduced herself with a slight bow.
A Witch? They’re considered to be Demi-Humans like Vampires and Werewolves, but they’ve been known to be very secretive and reclusive, even compared to the other Demi-Human races, so not much is known about them.
As a Monster shot towards her, she raised her hand towards it, a fiery orange circle forming in front of her hand with a pentagram pattern and a bunch of writing across it, before a powerful blast of flames burst out and struck the Monster, engulfing it and burning it to death.
She’s powerful...but I can’t get a proper read on her, she doesn’t feel anything like either a regular human or a Meta-Human, and she feels different to Vampires and Werewolves too. How exactly do her powers work?
