Chapter 127: It’s too hot
Yan Jia knew fighting was useless, so she said, "I will be waiting outside." Everyone left the tent except for the two of them.
Li Jun poured himself some tea while asking, "What do you want to talk about?" Just when he brought the rim of the cup to his lips, Yu Wen took the cup from him.
Li Jun, "..."
Was this man going to bully him? At that thought, he laughed. How come he hadn’t known that Yu Wen was petty? Just when he was about to say something, Yu Wen said, "It’s too hot."
Li Jun, "..."
"Do I look so fragile to you?" He asked as Yu Wen set the cup down. Yu Wen was genuinely worried about him burning his tongue. These flasks were infamous for keeping things extremely hot for hours.
Alex had learnt that the hard way, on a mission nonetheless. To this day, his tongue had a dark mark at the tip, and he rarely, if ever, drank coffee. Li Jun smiled mischievously and said, "You care about me?"
Yu Wen looked at Li Jun’s lips, and his mind strayed. He was thinking about how those lips were moist and red while calling out his name. Like the song of a siren, it was entrancing and alluring. He wanted to hear Li Jun call him like that again.
Seeing that Yu Wen hadn’t answered, Li Jun waved his hand in front of him while calling out, "General Yu," his voice laced with annoyance. When he asked if Yu Wen cared for him, and Yu Wen didn’t answer, he got really upset. Sure, it was unreasonable, but he couldn’t help himself. He tsked in annoyance.
Yu Wen finally snapped out of it and asked, "Do you care about me?" His voice was barely above a whisper, so Li Jun didn’t hear it.
Li Jun asked, "What did you say?"
But Yu Wen lowered his head and said, "Nothing... You intervened when I specifically told you to stay out of it."
Li Jun decided to play dumb. His brow arched, and he said, "When did I do that? I was in this tent the entire time." He was determined to play the innocent card to the very end, but Yu Wen wouldn’t allow that. "General, if you want to repay me with your body, then you have got the wrong person."
Yu Wen was flabbergasted. Repay what with what? But that was when he thought, why not play into it? "Oh, so it’s not you that I should thank? I was about to take my shirt off."
Li Jun, "..."
Alright, he had to admit that all these years, he didn’t know Yu Wen at all. The man had a way with words. Maybe it was because they had been enemies, and they spent most of their time arguing and exchanging blows that he didn’t see this side of him.
"That shouldn’t stop you. You can still take off your shirt if you want to," Li Jun said while taking his eyes away from him. Who wouldn’t want to see that robust chest again? The man was eye candy and nice to look at.
Yu Wen chuckled and said, "It’s probably Blue Sapphire’s doing. I heard their elite team is superb." He knew he was pushing it, but he couldn’t help himself. He wanted Li Jun to slip-up.
"Why would you say that?" Li Jun asked, feeling a little anxious. If Yu Wen thought so, would that mean he was suspicious of his identity?
Yu Wen leaned closer and said, "I heard that it was the leader of the Blood Wing. Rumor has it that he is a dangerous beauty, the son of the devil himself."
Li Jun’s aura shifted, and his jaw clenched. He snorted, thinking all men were the same. Always thinking with their fucking dicks. He said, "Really?" he said his expression cold, but the sourness stuck in his throat was unbearable. He knew he was talking about Princeton.
If they stood side by side, people would describe their beauty as different. Li Jun’s face was more of a masculine beauty, and Princeton, on the other hand, was more of an ethereal beauty model after an angel, though his personality was far from it.
Yu Wen seemed to realize he had taken things too far, but before he could even coax him, a set of footsteps rushed in. They both looked back and saw it was Alex who appeared flustered. There was a reason why he looked like that.
He had been waiting for the two to finish their little chat when he received a report that someone was approaching their camp and they had the insignia of the Imperial army. When they established communication, they found that it was the imperial princess.
Hearing this, Alex knew he couldn’t make a decision. He had to talk to Yu Wen. Thus, he rushed over here, but before the words could even come out, he looked at Zi Rui, his expression obvious.
Li Jun pressed the tip of his tongue on his cheek in annoyance. If Yu Wen dared to kick him out, he was going to take off in the middle of the night and take his reinforcements with him.
When he heard Yu Wen say, "Speak," Li Jun felt incredibly smug. At least Yu Wen knew where his bread was buttered.
Alex hesitated. Li Jun raised the cup that had finally cooled enough to drink, and he took a sip. Before he even had the time to savor his tea, he spat it out. That’s because he had heard Alex say it was Li Yu. Li Yu was here, at the front lines, and she brought reinforcements.
"Has she lost her fucking mind?" he exclaimed while coughing.
Yu Wen handed him paper towels with a look of concern. "Take your time and drink slowly," he said.
Alex was a little surprised by his reaction, so he said, "She is still the imperial princess. Who would dare stop her? She can still go wherever she pleases."
"Not here, though," Yu Wen said, "Tell her they have no permission to enter this base." That’s what he ordered, but the imperial army in the base couldn’t ignore the Imperial decree. That would be treasonous.
Her convoy drove in and came to a stop in the middle of the camp. Someone opened the door for her, and she walked out all geared up, but she seemed unhappy. She wanted to look pretty, but this outfit made her look ugly. At least that’s what she thought.
"Your Highness," said General Vane, the general in charge of the imperial army on the front lines. He had taken a more passive role ever since Yu Wen came into the picture.
He bowed before her, and Li Yu waved her hand lazily before ordering, "Take everything out of the car and set up my tent." The people she brought immediately got to work. Li Yu asked, "Where is General Yu? I thought he would personally welcome me here."
General Vane didn’t know what to say for a second. How could Yu Wen have had time to prepare to see her when they were all not expecting her? She just showed up randomly out of thin air. What if there were an active battle? Wouldn’t that be putting her at risk?
"The general had a busy day today. He must be rest-" he replied, but she cut him off immediately, saying,
"Take me to him." Unable to disobey her orders, he led the way, but halfway there, Alex intercepted them.
His expression stern, he bowed before her. She attempted to walk past him, but he blocked her path without any fear for his life. Unlike the others who couldn’t disobey her orders, he stood boldly in the way. Why? It was because of his backer. It was because of Yu Wen.
Enraged, she said, "Do you have a death wish?" She knew who Alex was. This meant she also knew under whose orders he was operating. Like the saying, "If you want to beat a dog, you have to look at its owner."
She knew she couldn’t do jack shit to Alex, but how dare he defy her? She knew lashing out wouldn’t do any good, but she still couldn’t accept it.
"Your Highness, the general told me to let you know that this isn’t a place suited for such a noble woman like you. You should rest early, and tomorrow you should head back to the imperial capital, where you will be safe."
Li Yu clenched her fists. He didn’t even want to see her and tell her that in person. He had to use his stupid minion to convey the message.
She restrained her anger and said, "Tell the general that we can discuss this tomorrow. In the meantime, I brought him some things he would like." She curled her finger, and her people brought boxes upon boxes to bring to Yu Wen.
Alex couldn’t refuse because this wasn’t discussed with the general. He was afraid that if he refused, she would cause a scene. It wouldn’t be the first time she had done that.
