Chapter 217: Where Is He?

"For the Celestial Pair, Dravin and Fyra, it is even more dangerous. That’s why there have been records of people going mad with power, unable to return after using the powers of the pair," Roxine explained.

When she realized Vy was suggesting Sierra to attempt it, in hopes of boosting her abilities, Roxine begged her to reconsider.

"There are other ways to work around this. Sierra, if you can’t control it, you could lose yourself. Forever," Roxine warned.

But Sierra did not care for her own safety. Not when Alistair’s life was on the line. She was going to take every opportunity afforded to her.

Vy was well aware of the consequences too.

"I would not have suggested this, knowing the potential consequences, without having a solution in mind," she explained, "Sierra is a great candidate for this. Especially since she’d already had experience with one of the abilities. There’s one more thing that should help."

"And what would that be?" Roxine asked with her arms crossed, still a little skeptical of the situation. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

"She has Opal."

Sierra and Roxine looked at each other, confused by Vy’s statement. What did Opal have to do with this? Vy quickly explained that due to the bond shared between Sierra and Opal, Opal could help guide her through.

"It’s just like how Aether is my familiar. Opal’s connection with you and her being blessed by the Sea Serpent Patron gives her a unique edge to help you. Not to mention, she successfully transformed into a sea serpent on more than one occasion," Vy added.

’Indeed, I can help guide you and ground you while you go through the process,’ Opal added through telepathy to Sierra.

With assurance on multiple fronts, and after hearing the concerns that Roxine had raised, Sierra decided to give it a shot. But as time was against them, Sierra would have to learn it while they were on the road.

Conditions were not ideal, but they just had to make do. Ida anxiously watched as Sierra made final preparations before leaving. Each time Sierra was faced with an arduous task, the loyal maid could not help but feel worried.

Each time, Sierra returned stronger than ever. For that, she was grateful to know her prayers to the gods have been answered.

"Please remember to take care of yourself, Your Majesty. We’ll be waiting for you!" Ida said as her eyes were watering.

Sierra smiled, placing a hand on Ida’s shoulder.

"Hold down the fort for me while I’m gone, Ida. Don’t worry, I’ll be back with Alistair before you know it."

By the time they arrived in Drakin, the news they had gotten while on the road were mostly proven true. The streets of the capital city and the cities and towns between Drakin and Cair seemed off.

They could not quite put their finger on it, but something was most certainly amiss. Under the cover of darkness, Sierra and her friends entered the capital city and headed straight for Vargos Castle.

Once inside, Sierra headed straight for the King’s Quarters. After Cassandra had regained part of her strength, she gave as much information as she could. All of it was penned into a letter and sent to Sierra through silverwing.

Upon reading it, they were stunned to learn that Consort Agnes seemed to be behind everything. She had colluded with members of the court, as well as mysterious figures, to harm and imprison Alistair.

The resulting news inched Sierra close to the edge with her emotions. She had witnessed what could happen should she be lenient to her enemies.

Not again.

Not anymore.

Though she was now Queen, her thirst for revenge would go far beyond any diplomacy. Especially since Alistair was involved in this.

"Sierra, wait!" Vy whispered loudly to her as she grabbed Sierra’s arm, just as she was about to enter the King’s Quarters.

"What is it?" Sierra turned back and asked in a little annoyance.

They were this close to getting to Alistair. She was not about to let the opportunity slip away.

"Don’t you see? It’s too quiet!" Vy exclaimed in a hushed voice as Dygo came to her side.

Sierra realized she was right. While there were some guards patrolling as usual, there did not seem to be more security beyond that. Could it be that Alistair wasn’t in the King’s Quarters after all?

She bit her lip as she continued to analyze all the options she had. free𝑤ebnovel.com

"Vy, Dygo, I need you to stay out here. I’ll go in and scope out the location. I’ll give you the signal if I need backup," Sierra instructed.

She did not give time to the both of them to protest, leaping into action immediately. Vy sighed as Sierra quickly blended into the shadows. She turned to Dygo as they waited in the dark, hoping Sierra knew what she was doing.

"That woman... she’s so stubborn!" Vy sighed.

Dygo could not help but chuckle as he wrapped his arms around her and whispered in her ear, "Reminds me of someone I know very well."

"I..." she could not even protest, she knew he was right.

Using the secret passageway, Sierra made her way toward Alistair’s bedroom. When she reached the end of the dark tunnels, she felt around for the secret switch. She had sweat trickling down her brows, worried as to what could be on the other side.

"Paramount Sierra," a voice called out from behind.

Sierra quickly covered her mouth as her heart nearly leaped out of her throat. It was pounding in her ears as she tried to catch her breath. She thought she had heard a ghost whispering in her ear.

She had not noticed it at first, as she was solely concentrated on finding the secret switch.

"My apologies, it was not my intention to scare you," the voice spoke again.

Now that she had her senses, Sierra realized it was the voice of one of the shadow guards.

"It’s alright," she replied as she breathed in deeply, "Is His Majesty in there?"

Silence.

There was no reply.

It was so quiet, that she could hear her own breathing. She knew the shadow guard was still there, right behind her. But why didn’t he reply to her?

"Is he in there?" she persisted.
