Chapter 216: Risky
Vy lowered down a little and whispered in Cassandra’s ear.
"Consort Cassandra. We’ve arrived in Cair. Queen Sierra is here," Vy said to her. frёewebηovel.cѳm
Cassandra winced in pain as she stirred awake.
"Sierra? Sierra’s here?" her voice croaked.
"Someone get a glass of water!" Sierra yelled out another order before turning her attention back to Cassandra, "I’m here Cassandra, I’m right here."
Though the two women had their differences in the past, that moment of crisis washed it all away. They were no longer separated by their differences.
"Sierra... I... Alistair..." Cassandra tried her best to speak coherently but she could not form the words properly.
After drinking from the glass of water that was brought to them, it did not get any better either. Sierra was growing increasingly anxious. From the look of the injuries that Cassandra had suffered, something horrible must have unfolded in Drakin.
"Cassandra, I’m going to ask you some questions. Just nod for yes and shake your head for no, alright?" Sierra asked as she tried to keep her voice as neutral as she could.
Internally, her heart was pounding in her ears. She could barely think straight, as she imagined the worst-case scenarios of what might be happening.
Cassandra nodded.
"Is Alistair in danger?"
Cassandra nodded. She looked as if she wanted to say something, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t.
Sierra clenched her hand into a fist. She wanted to know who was behind it, but there was no time. She needed to get to Drakin at once. But just as she was about to straighten herself, Cassandra grabbed onto her hand and pulled her in close.
With all the strength she had left in her, Cassandra said, "Agnes... beware..."
With that, the royal consort’s eyes rolled to the back of her head. She passed out in Dygo’s arms. Sierra could barely comprehend her words as she got up to her feet, just as the royal doctors arrived at the scene to assess the situation.
She took a few steps away, trying to figure things out. From the limited information she received from Cassandra, two things were clear.
Alistair was in danger.
Agnes was the culprit behind it.
’But can I trust her?’ Sierra wondered to herself.
Opal could hear her thoughts too and offered her own insight.
’Perhaps it is best to see for ourselves.’
Sierra knew her little snake was right.
"Father," Sierra turned to look for her father in the crowd.
General Leon came to her side at once.
"What is it, Sierra?" He asked as he came to her side, ready to assist.
"While I am gone, I will leave Cair’s affairs in your hands," Sierra said with certainty.
"Kingdom affairs? Sierra, what are you-" it quickly dawned on him what his daughter intended to do, "Sierra, it’s too dangerous. We don’t know anything of the situation there apart from the words of Royal Consort Cassandra. Now is not the time for rash actions."
"Rash actions? The love of my life is dead for all I know! Do you expect me to sit here and wait? I cannot, I... I...," Sierra’s face was beet red when she realized what she had just said.
"I’m sorry father, I..."
Before she could finish her sentence, General Leon placed his hand lovingly on his daughter’s shoulders. With a bright smile on his face, he shook his face.
"There is nothing to apologize for. I was worried for your safety, as you are worried for his. Do not worry about things here. We’ll take care of it. Go to him."
"We’ll go with you," Vy and Dygo came forward, offering their aid.
Lady Diane, Roxine, and even Princess Myra, and Taita came forward offering their aid. Sierra was grateful to them all, but she did not want to put any of them in danger. With time being of the essence, they had to travel fast.
Hence, she accepted Vy and Dygo’s offer of help. As they prepared to leave, Vy and Dygo pulled Sierra aside for a moment.
"Before we leave, there’s one thing I want to check with you," Vy said as she held onto Sierra’s hands.
"What is it?"
"You’ve been blessed by the Celestial Patron Dravin the Dragon, is that correct?" Vy asked.
"Yes... what about it?" Sierra asked.
Vy pursed her lips as she glanced over to Dygo for support. The words were at the tip of her tongue but she seemed hesitant to say what she wanted to do.
"Vy, please speak your mind. There’s no time to waste," Sierra reminded her as she gripped her hands tightly.
"Right right. I don’t know what dangers you might face when you return to Drakin. Especially since we don’t have the advantage in numbers."
Sierra was a little taken aback. She had not considered that at all. She was fairly confident in her own abilities. She was confident in Vy and Dygos’ abilities too. She recalled the injuries Cassandra was inflicted with. She had heard the diagnosis from the doctors. freeweɓnovel.cøm
Some of the injuries were not inflicted by any known weapon. It was as if she had been harmed by elemental energy or magic. Both of which were rare in Drakin and Cair, safe for the abilities used by those who had received the blessing of the Patrons.
That must be where Vy’s worries stemmed from.
"Do you have a possible solution for that situation?" Sierra pressed.
"It’s more like a power boost... of sorts," Dygo added to the conversation.
"Power boost?"
Roxine and Lady Diane overheard the conversation they were having and came over to listen, hoping they could be of assistance.
Sierra listened intently as Vy explained what Dygo meant. Ever since Vy had met Sierra and Alistair, she had been intrigued by the abilities they possessed and the Patrons who blessed them.
Through her research, she gained the knowledge that as the blessed, they could utilize powers or adopt key features that their patrons had. Sierra already had the ability to summon the wings of Drakin, which was one such use of the ability mentioned.
As it turned out, there was more that she could do.
"Is that true?" Sierra turned to Roxine, wondering if she knew anything of it.
Roxine nodded, "It is. It has been documented before. However, that’s what we’ve been warned about."
Not only would it take a large amount of energy to accomplish, but it could also set the person down a path they cannot return from. Should the form they wish to take consumed them, they would become a mindless creature seeking nothing but destruction.
