Chapter 40: Enter The New World

A loud ringing sound flooded Leo’s ears, his clothes completely covered in dust and blood.

A deep, wide crater formed where he landed, a place that normally was supposed to be his grave with the speed he had been falling at. But luckily, he didn’t die.

’That sick fucking goddess!’

That was the only thing that stuck in Leo’s mind at that moment, like a constant reminder of the evil divine being he had found himself affiliated with.

But if everything she said was in any way true, he needed to figure out his standing first before proceeding any further.

So Leo stood up on his feet, bruises covering his entire body as a large surge of pain shot through his spinal cord.

All he could see were a bunch of trees scattered all over the region, some lizards, and a few rats hiding behind rocks, looking at the uninvited guest that had just appeared in their territory.

"Master, are you okay? I wanted to come out when you were with the goddess, but no matter what I did, I couldn’t do anything!"

Vegor’s voice echoed loudly.

"I’m good, Vegor."

Leo’s eye twitched in pain as it moved back into place, the dislocated joints in his body grinding against one another.

If this world was in any way near Earth, then a lot of people had probably already begun their journey to discover what the falling flaming being was all about, so he needed to get out as fast as possible.

So, with blood covering his face and parts of his clothes burned off, he began his journey, limping on one foot deeper into the strange forest until he found a suitable stick to use for balance.

Around Leo, the sunlight coursed through the trees, hitting the ground in small yellow rays of light. A cold chill flooded the area, creating a subtle fog that crawled up his painful spine.

Even though it seemed normal, Leo could feel an ominous presence, like something about this newfound place was wrong. His instincts flared on all sides, both senses on high alert.

He could’ve blamed the paranoia on his trust issues or the fact that he had been thrown from God knows where and crashed straight into the ground, but it felt so real that the hairs on his body stood on end.

"Leo!"

He heard someone calling him in a faint voice.

Leo turned his gaze, searching for whoever was calling, but saw absolutely no one.

"Was that you, Vegor?"

"No, my Master."

He denied.

"Leo, darling!"

It came louder this time, the voice mirroring that of his late mother, that sweet voice that had made part of his childhood worth living.

But she had long been gone in the accident, so he brushed it off as his mind playing tricks on him and kept looking around.

"I said, sweety."

The voice came physically this time, like she was standing right beside him.

Leo froze immediately.

His mind filled with indecisiveness, asking himself whether he should turn around to see if she was real or not. He hesitated, but eventually, curiosity got the better of him.

"Mom... is that you?"

Leo’s face melted as he stared at his mother.

The warm smile. The brown eyes. That smooth skin that hid the sleepless nights she had spent trying to crack the numbers.

It was everything Leo had dreamed of seeing ever since his days in the hospital.

She placed her warm hands on Leo’s cheeks as tears rolled down her face, joyful that she had finally reunited with her son.

"Yes, it’s me, darling!"

Her reply was mixed with sobs and chuckles.

"How is... how is it possible that you—"

A large blade tore through Leo’s chest, driving from his back to the front seamlessly.

Leo watched as his blood dripped onto the ground, feeling the cold metal that had temporarily become part of his body.

Suddenly, his mother’s image dissolved like cigarette smoke, revealing that it had all been a hallucination.

"Hehehe... works every time."

A crooked, muscular man chuckled from behind.

’Shit.’

Leo violently reached behind him, trying to catch the man before he escaped, but the man had the upper hand. He jumped back several steps, pulling the blade out of Leo’s chest with him.

Bwaah!

Leo vomited thick, warm blood onto the ground as his vision began to blur.

If that wasn’t bad enough, blood poured from both sides of the wound in his chest as well, like a waterfall.

"I covered the blade with a very strong poison, strong enough to kill an elephant. A mere human like you won’t even manage to move once its effects fully kick in."

The crooked man chuckled happily, wearing an evil grin while still holding his blade, as if planning to strike again once the poison completely took over.

Leo wanted to move.

Every instinct in his body screamed at him to.

But no matter what he tried, none of his muscles responded.

’He somehow managed to access my memories and poison my body at the same time. But I thought I had the Neutralization special technique. Why doesn’t it work here?’

[Special Feature: Neutralization does not work in this world.]

The system screen answered.

Before Leo could even ask why that was the case, another box appeared.

[All Special Features obtained from Divine Masa do not work in areas where his power does not reach.]

’Fuck.’

[All hope is not lost. All physical gifts received from Divine Masa still work, since they are already integrated with your body.]

Leo turned his gaze back to the chuckling thief, who stood a distance away, simply waiting for Leo to bleed out.

"This is a lucky day for me. I caught a human. The elves will enjoy eating your fresh meat."

’Elves... eating humans?’

Pictures of elves formed in his mind, beings with long ears and glowing faces.

Just thinking about them eating humans felt impossible.

’Why am I even thinking about this now?!’

His blurry vision continued getting worse, his eyes closing more with every passing second.

’Vegor... take care of this.’

"Yes, Master."

The last thing he saw was Vegor, the Knight of Flames, appearing in front of the crooked man, whose face instantly changed as he realized he had messed with the wrong person.

Thud!!

Leo fell flat onto the ground, the screams of the crooked man echoing in his ears.

’You can always count on Vegor to do the job.’

Leo woke up on the other side of the forest. He found himself resting his injured body against a bulky tree.

By then, it was already nighttime. A fire burned just in front of him, flickers of flame rising into the atmosphere, as a warm embrace came over him.

"Master, you’re awake."

The knight welcomed him.

Leo didn’t reply immediately. He looked lost, almost like a stranger in his own body. His eyes wandered around with doubt clouding every movement.

Even the knight was surprised by his behavior.

"Are you okay, master?"

"Yes... I am."

He hesitated.

"It’s just... I’m surprised we’re in a forest . Aren’t we supposed to be in Valoria?"

He muttered with complete seriousness.
