Chapter 41: Vegors turn
The knight was thrown off for some time but eventually got himself back on track later.
He began telling Leo what happened from where the goddess had forcefully taken him from Valoria, sending him to her throne room.
Luckily, whatever he explained, Leo seemed to catch on to it quickly as he listened, sometimes even finishing the sentence for Vegor before he even reached the middle of it, like he had forgotten but just needed someone to jog that memory. So after the two of them finished talking in the jungle, Leo had remembered everything.
"How is it even possible that I could forget something like that? Is it the poison or the injuries I got?"
There were still just too many parts of the puzzle moving around in the situation, to add even more to the list of possible outcomes, there was still the dark feeling he kept getting. He thought it came from the crooked thief who had tricked him and that by killing him, it would disappear, but it didn’t.
’If it wasn’t for Vegor, I would’ve been dead meat by now.... Speaking of Vegor!’
He remembered something he wanted to do. He stared at Vegor, the yellow flames from the fire reflecting on his pupils.
"Thank you for saving me."
Even though he still had a hole in his chest, he bowed his head to show his respect.
"Ma-Master, don’t do that."
Vegor’s voice came out like squeaks, as though surprise had stolen all the words from his mouth. He moved his arms in a denying, gesturing way.
"Just listen to what I’m saying."
He began, resting his head against the tree.
"This place looks dangerous. It’s not only that thief, but there are a lot of things that may come for us. I only survived that situation because of you, which means we need to be together... always"
A glowing white light started to appear in Leo’s hands, the rays reflecting on both the caster and Vegor. When it gathered much more density, it started to change into a pure white slime, the light dimming slowly until only the slime remained.
"I have been designing this soul ever since the meeting at the HQ Breakers."
The slime began floating towards Vegor who sat on the other side of the fire.
"Master, you don’t have to."
"Don’t worry, it’s not a hassle."
The slime crawled its way into Vegor’s burning eyes. But no matter how hot the furnace was, it wasn’t enough to evaporate it. Then, as if it were something from a movie, Vegor began floating into the air. Rings of energy surrounded him in the form of overlapping circles.
The transformation began. He started changing, his size reducing down to average human height, not so tall like a basketball player but not so small that he couldn’t play if he ever wanted. freeweɓnøvel.com
To finish it all up, a blinding light flashed for the last time, giving the forest a second of illumination before it disappeared into darkness , and Vegor’s new form had finally come.
The helmet on Vegor’s face was completely gone. In its place was a handsome face with burning red eyes. His brown hair was long enough to reach the chest plate of his armor. Speaking of the armor, it was removable now. And the flames were completely covered inside his flesh.
Upon landing on the ground, Vegor went to his knees.
"Thank you, Master. I know that the technique takes a huge amount of power from you!"
"You have nothing to worry about."
Leo shrugged it off. But putting Leo’s words aside, the technique was pretty demanding. Even though he didn’t want to say it, after giving Vegor a soul, he started to feel like he had lost a part of himself he never knew he had. Apart from that, the pain in his chest became even more unbearable, like he just wanted to jump off a cliff and die.
"I think I am gonna go back to sleep now."
Leo lay flat on the ground, looking at the shining stars in the sky.
"Yes, Master. I will be on the lookout."

By morning, the sun had already risen to its highest point.
You’d think that between the two, Leo would be the one sleeping like a pig, snoring like he had no problems. But the situation had seemingly changed. Vegor was the one who was sound asleep in an awkward position, while Leo was doing push-ups and sit-ups. It was a painful routine, but one that he needed to wake his body from the sorry state it the poison had put him in.
Clack!!
Leo accidentally stepped on a stick .
"I’m awake, I’m awake!"
Vegor pushed himself up, looking lost, blinking repeatedly.
His eyes landed on Leo, who was stretching his arms.
"You fell asleep at midnight . I think it’s because of the soul. It made you more human!"
Vegor took a look at his hands that were still hidden behind the armor. The more he looked at them, the more tears started to build up in his eyes like some sort fountain.
Leo put his hand on his hairless chin as he pondered on the new look.
"You got human emotions too, so we have to assume you can eat too."
Those were the words that kicked the ball out of the park. Vegor started crying immediately.
Being in the Floors meant a repeated life of never experiencing any kind of happiness besides killing fighters. For the former Knight of Flames, his fate had changed after meeting leo. Now he could feel that there was a lot more to life than just fighting.
He cried continuously. Since he didn’t know how to stop the tears, it took him quite some time to adjust to it all. Inn the end, he stopped crying, and they started their journey towards the city that Leo had seen while he fell from the heavens.

After walking non-stop and relying on the fruits they picked along the way for fuel, they finally arrived just outside the city.
And from the look of things, Leo’s intuition was right. It looked like something out of a fantasy manga. Towering, strange buildings, and the way the people dressed made everything feel unfamiliar.
If they wanted answers, that was where they needed to enter.
Using Materialization, Leo created a horned mask that covered his face, making him seem like he wasn’t human. The confrontation with the crooked man had taught him something new. Elves eat humans here, and that’s just one species, so he wasn’t going to take any chances with the others.
As the light shined upon them, they entered the city head-on.
