Chapter 34: Conversation

Leo’s arm was the first to go, breaking apart into ash like some kind burnt wood. Surprisingly, the experience wasn’t as painful as it looked to be. Whether it was his jacked-up Endurance talking or not was left to debate.

The knight hastened to his master’s side.

"I am sorry, Master. I should’ve protected you."

He screamed as he knelt down in front of him.

Every Breaker watched it all unfold, the same kind of scenario that they had seen a lot before it happened to Leo. Some saw it with sad faces, as Jennifer tried to rush towards Leo, but Sabrina held her back. But to others like Kendal and Jake, even though it was inhuman, deep down they were happy that Leo was going to die.

Leo gazed at his ashing body, his vision blurring even more every single second. He wanted to lament the whole situation, say some last words that would make people feel sad for him ,but there wasn’t any time left for him. Half of his face had already disappeared.

"Do whatever you can and make sure they survive."

"It will be my honor!"

Vegor accepted.

Leo gave a final weak smile before he fully disappeared from the battlefield.

The knight stood up on his feet, its head pointing at Lord Gara, who watched the whole event unfold like they were his lab experiments.

Vegors controlled flames all over its body started to shake, becoming unstable into the old form of the Knight of Flames, the same kind that burned every enemy that came within short range.

"I will carry out my last master’s orders."

He equipped the blade.

Suddenly, time stopped. Nobody moved on the battlefield, not even Lord Gara.

Somehow, in an unexplainable way, Leo’s consciousness was still alive and working. It was almost like his body had disintegrated, but his mind was still in Valoria.

[WELCOME TO THE TIMELESS WORLD]

The words came up on his system screen.

[Connecting the mind to unknown benefactor.....]

The dots kept repeating themselves, moving in one single chain until the screen finally changed into a social media messaging app.

[Hello Leo, I never thought we would meet.]

The message plastered itself, with some emojis at the end of the sentence.

Leo’s mind raced with suspicion. Whoever it was didn’t want him to know who they were, courtesy of the Unknown tag in place of their name. But they didn’t show any kind of hostility towards him, so he just went along and answered with the first thing that came to his mind.

[Life has a way of making surprises.]

Leo’s message came just underneath it to the right of the screen.

[Let’s skip to the chase. You died, but I can revive you.]

The sentence ended with an injection emoji and a red heart emoji.

Leo’s pupils widened as he read the words. If it was the past Leo, he would’ve leaped at the deal, but one thing he had learned about divine beings was that he should never trust them when they said they could help you. So he answered in the plainest way possible.

[Alright, then do it.]

[Haha, I wish it was that simple.]

A laughing cat emoji finished the sentence.

[Let’s make a deal. I want you to do a favor for me. Don’t worry, it isn’t bad or anything, and in return I will help you out of your predicament.]

’A favor, huh.’

Images of what would happen back in Valoria came up in his mind. They were blurry, but still he could see what would transpire after he died. Lord Gara would defeat the Knight of Flames. He would break his armor apart, sending the pieces flying in different directions. All his friends and the other Breakers on the battlefield would be killed as well, dying in the most unmerciful ways anyone could ever think of. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

Leo would’ve brushed them off as hallucinations made to force him into agreeing, but he felt the whole thing in his consciousness: the slashes, the stabs. There was no way some divine being could fake that.

[I agree to your deal.]

[Splendid, and as a token of our deal, I will give you a surprise package just in case.]

The sentence was loaded with party emojis. It just showed how much the divine being wanted to meet him.

[User has logged off.]

[Preparing to transfer back to 20 seconds before he dies.]

[Calibrating.....]

[Successful.]

Leo felt like he had been pulled through a loophole, its menacing power clinging all over his body until finally there was an infinite wave of silence.

Vegor’s words were the ones that woke him up.

"Master, Master!"

"Yes!"

"I am so sorry, Master, but I couldn’t stop the blade."

He pleaded.

Leo felt completely out of place, the dark twin blade still in his hands.

’It really worked.’

He gazed around his surroundings, trying to catch up. From the look of things, their battle against Lord Gara had just begun, and just moments ago he had jumped out of their attack, which in turn led to the knight striking Leo with his blade.

Vegor stood diligently, waiting for his master’s reply. He did do something bad after all. In his eyes, a punishment was the only suitable solution for failing to control his own blade.

"There is nothing to be worried about. Let’s just concentrate on him."

Beep.

A bell logo came onto the system screen. On top of it was a miniature red 3.

[Unknown user has...]

[Completed the Level 2 upgrade process.]

[Added 50 points to each physical stat.]

[Installed Special Feature: [Neutralization]

Any harmful effect that enters your body is automatically analyzed and erased. This includes poisons, curses, diseases, mind control, and abnormal abilities. The stronger the foreign effect, the more energy Neutralization consumes to completely remove it. Once an effect has been fully neutralized, it can no longer affect the user again.]

’So this is the surprise the user was talking about. Not bad, this is awesome.’

After all the notifications ended, an updated stats screen finally came up.

Leo’s pupils dilated. A smile came onto his face as he finished taking in all the information. His physical stats were off the charts. Under normal circumstances, he needed to grind for two days in the Growth Nexus to get those points. Just being given them on a silver platter made him anxious and suspicious at the same time. Whatever favor the divine being wanted had to be something difficult. But there were a lot of things to digest, so he just pinned it off for another day.

’My Level 2 skill is Genesis Forge. The hell is that?’

He clicked the button that explained the skill.

[Genesis forge is....]
