Chapter 35: GENESIS FORGE
[Genesis Forge is the upgraded version of Materialization. The limitation interms of what you imagine has been lifted, and on top of that you have the ability to put souls into things you create.]
’This is a God-level ability!’ Leo’s eyes flared.
[Every soul you create takes a level of your power. The stronger and larger the object being controlled, the higher the amount of energy it takes.]
The technique did check out. On top of that, Leo could already see millions of possibilities he could use with the ability. But as of that moment, there were still other things to worry about. So he closed the screen and drew all his attention to Lord Gara. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
In his gaze, Lord Gara could sense something different about Leo. He looked the same, but his energy pattern felt strangely awkward.
He turned to his X-ray vision, seeing Leo’s skeleton before finally locking onto the frequency of his power. Leo’s aura burned into the skies, its color darker than ever, like darkness itself.
But the two weren’t just waiting for Lord Gara to size them up. They charged again with another wave of attacks, combining fire with their strikes.
The fight played out exactly like Leo remembered it. He didn’t change anything because, if time travel movies had taught him anything, it was that nothing good ever came from changing the past. Avoiding his death was already enough. Other than that, he also wanted to test his new Neutralization feature to see if it would help turn the battlefield around.
Lord Gara kicked Vegor away like a trash can. Then, after Leo lost his balance, Gara took advantage of the opening and touched Leo on the chest.
"...Got you."
The spectators couldn’t believe it. Lord Gara had cemented his power as the ultimate killer who would bring humanity’s destruction.
But just as all hope seemed lost, something happened that wasn’t in Lord Gara’s calculations at all.
[Successfully used Neutralization.]
Leo never disintegrated into ash. In that moment, he stood as the only enemy Lord Gara’s kamikaze technique wouldn’t work on.
"General, Leo Hamany doesn’t turn to ash when Gara touches him." Commander Carol reported the recent development.
"Are you sure of what you’re saying, Commander?" he asked again.
"Yes, I swear it upon my life."
A smile appeared on his face as he stood in the control room.
This predicament changed the whole landscape of the fight. It was like removing the sting from a scorpion’s tail, or taking a gun out of a soldier’s hand. He was still dangerous, but not as dangerous as before.
Lord Gara’s mind raced with hundreds of possibilities. He was quite thrown off by what his enemy had managed to do. Leo’s resistance to his technique reminded him of something he had forgotten long ago.
When the meta humans woke him from his thirty-year slumber on Floor 25, they started catching him up on what had happened.
One of the things they told him was—
"When the man dressed in gold made us retreat and hide in here, we prayed to the divine god Masa to help us."
An old meta human priest narrated the story.
"Masa did answer us. He gave us a prophecy that one day, the One with White Hair, the One who stops the Hand , will descend upon the humans in Valoria and kill each and every one of them, giving you back the land that belongs to you by right of birth."
The meta humans had waited for this savior. But after nineteen long years of sickness and hunger, they decided to take matters into their own hands and awakened Gara, the Champion of war.
Lord Gara looked at Leo again.
White hair.
A man who had stopped the Hand of Destruction.
At first, he thought the Hand owas just a metaphor. But now he understood it referred to him along with his ability, and the promised savior was his opponent, Leo, all along.
You would expect Lord Gara to be happy after remembering the prophecy. Or perhaps have faith that the divine god Masa hadn’t abandoned the meta humans.
Instead, it made him angrier than he had ever been.
A transformation began across his body.
His clothes changed into more suitable battle attire, resembling a knight’s armor. His entire body started shining with brilliant light.
"That affinity... is it the Light Affinity?" Commander Carol muttered as she gazed at the overwhelming display of power.
"How could you be this late?"
Lord Gara began speaking. A surge of power burst from his body, sweeping across the dusty desert floor.
"How could you be this late? How could you let all of them die in those floors and now expect me to be okay with it?"
’What’s he talking about? Is he mad about something?’
Boom!
His energy connected with the skies. Even though they were far away, his subordinates felt his presence. They stopped whatever horrors they were doing and rushed back toward their lord.
"I am going to kill you... then kill Masa. I’m going to show every divine being that we don’t need their power or prophecies to live a happy life."
That last line stabbed Leo deep in the heart.
Being in pain for a long time has its perks. One of them is knowing when someone else is in pain.
Leo wanted to understand everything about them, and so did Katelyn.
But even with that, they still needed to be punished.
Leo looked at the knight one last time, silently signaling him to charge.
With that, the final part of their fight began.
Darkness against Light.
Each fought at their utmost ability.
Lord Gara’s hand technique no longer worked on Leo, so he switched to light blades instead. Even so, he continued holding his own against the two of them. At a certain point, even Vegor began falling behind.
White and black blasts came from every direction.
"These guys... they’re on a whole other level." Jake muttered, clenching his bionic arm.
"Be careful, Leo." Jennifer spoke, clutching her hands together as she prayed for her crush to survive.
On the far outskirts, one drone that had been broken during the earlier attacks suddenly came back online. It began recording the whole battle.
The footage wasn’t perfect since dust covered part of its lens, but it was enough to show the citizens back home who was truly fighting for their lives.
"Hey, I know that kid. He was the one that saved us earlier!" one drunk man said inside the bar.
The British man wanted to argue since you couldn’t really trust a drunk man’s eyes. But after taking a closer look himself, he got his confirmation.
"In the name of a baby’s blossom... it really is him."
A woman squealed with joy, jumping up repeatedly.
"I know a celebrity Breaker! And he was in my bar! This is amazing!"
Boom!
Leo’s speed became even greater as he pushed his body, adapting to his newly increased stats.
Vegor attacked from the front with a powerful swing, but Lord Gara blocked it before kicking him away.
Before Gara could regain his balance, Leo was already behind him.
He stabbed Lord Gara through the back, the blade piercing straight into the man’s heart.
Bwa!!
He vomited blood.
His speed decreased with every passing second. The regeneration seemingly not working anymore.
Even then, he still wanted to take someone with him.
But as if fate had cursed him, the only person nearby was the one resistant to his Hand of Destruction.
Thud.
Lord Gara fell to his knees. Blood covered both his mouth and his armor.
His life force rapidly faded.
The connection with his subordinates began breaking as they ran across the city as though their lives depended on it.
’Aisha... Alex...’
He spoke inside their consciousness, his voice slow and weak.
’Thank you for making my few months awake worthwhile. I’ve had more fun these past few months than I had my whole life.’
’Retreat for now... Divine Masa has answered your prayers.’
Those were the last words he spoke before the connection disappeared.
"I’m sorry... but I had to protect my kind." Leo muttered as he stood behind the kneeling Gara.
"I understand... we both wanted the same thing. I know I can’t leave anything to you... but at least I can leave you my memories."
Thud!
He fell to the ground.
His presence disappeared from the battlefield.
"Nooo!!" Aisha shouted at the top of her lungs, her eyes widening in fear.
As the saying goes, in war there are always winners and losers.
Against all odds, today belonged to humanity.
"He did it... he actually did it!" Derek muttered, almost unable to believe what he had witnessed.
"Yeah!"
The crowd inside the bar shouted as they hugged one another.
Across every city in Valoria that witnessed the battle, people screamed with joy, embracing whoever stood beside them.
For once in their lives, it didn’t matter whether you were high class or low class.
Everyone celebrated together.
But amidst all of it, Leo’s vision began blurring.
The world spun around him as Lord Gara’s final wish began manifesting and he fell flat on the ground.
