Chapter 12: The Aftermath part 1
The aftermath of the fight was hectic, blood splattered all over the scene, guts spread everywhere.
Leo rushed to his friends with haste . The light from the door reflecting unto their half wounded bodies.
Jake was still sitting down in that second, his right arm completely gone with only some blood covered chunks of muscle left at the arm socket.
Jennifer knelt down beside him, using her technique to heal him.
Surprisingly, his arm wound was healing faster, which was good by the way, but that wouldn’tve been said for his psychological state as well. You wouldn’t expect someone who just lost their hand to be emotionally stable.
So Leo took a breath, walking towards his teammates . When he arrived close enough, he pulled off his half burned white army jacket revealing a white vest that he had tucked underneath.
"Use this to cover the wound."
He extended the jacket to Jennifer, his expression looking like someone who was attending a funeral.
When you looked at the situation from a different perspective it was a funeral, the only difference being that the corpse was broken beyond repair.
Jennifer nodded in acceptance then collected the jacket from Leo’s hand, putting it on her lap so that it couldn’t touch the ground and get dirty. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
"Stop looking at me like I’m dead already. I’ve just lost an arm, nothing too vital."
Jake broke into the silent atmosphere after seeing how sad and down Leo stared at him.
Leo hesitated first before replying playfully.
"You sure are one tough man!"
"Haha. So how did that Knight just disappear like that?"
Jake inquired. Speaking the words that seeked refuge in everyone’s mind at that second .
"I don’t know myself either, but I swear whatever did that saved my life because I would’ve died if it swung that blade."
Leo lied to him point blank.
He didn’t want to lie to his teammates, but telling them that he had somehow acquired the Floor 17 beast that had just killed their friend was much harder than just acting like he knew nothing about it.
Out of nowhere, tears began dropping from Jake’s eyes unto the ground as he clenched his remaining fist tight.
"Fuck, it’s all my fault that Ken died, I made a stupid attack pattern that made him stay at the front. I should’ve been the one, not him."
"There is no way you would’ve known what was going to happen. Everything that has been happening here is just crazy and random."
Leo answered, trying to keep his hopes high. Because he knew that if the second floor was to break them psychologically, continuing would be a heavy task morethan it already was. freёwebnovel.com
"All we can do is have faith in each other and maybe just maybe the pain could become smaller."
After Leo’s touching words, the whole area was strangled by a wave of silence. Each one of them including Jennifer letting the words settle deeper into their souls.
But as much as they didn’t want to believe it, the boy was right. The remaining four survived because they were together. If that wasn’t the case who would’ve known how much worse the damage could’ve been.
Suddenly
Sabrina came up to the scene walking slowly like a zombie in a movie, branching out from the point leo had hid her on.
When Leo saw her, immediately he rushed to her aid, providing balance to her weak body as she entered the healing circle.
The green healing light shined all over her body, every second refurnishing her strength all over again.
Their eyes did cross with hers, but nobody spoke. After what she had just done none of them really had any desire to comment.
It really seemed like Ken and Sabrina had a special connection together, maybe because for most of the journey they were always together.
None of them really knew what it was but what they did know was that it was strong enough to make her act like a maniac.
There is a fine line between bravery and stupidity and Sabrina had crossed that line hard.
"So what are we going to do now? We tried using the emergency evacuation setting but it didn’t work."
Leo hesitated first before replying.
"That means we are only left with one option. I hate to say this but we have to finish the third floor left."
Even as the words came out of his mouth, he felt like one of those bosses that overwork their employees never letting them see their families for months.
The squad was disbanded, the only defender was completely gone, the main attacker didn’t have one arm which was a pretty vital part to his attacks.
The wind user was heartbroken while the healer was tired as well but hiding the fact because saying it would make her seem selfish.
For a second no one replied, and in that time Leo realized there was only one thing to do.
"Let’s go into the floor, I will do the fighting while you all heal up."
Underestimating eyes rose up toward him at once, but who could blame them, Leo was speaking of the impossible here, even Sabrina who seemed like she wasn’t listening to the entire conversation raised her head at him.
"So how are you going to do that? You don’t have any technique remember?"
Jennifer chipped in.
"I know, that’s more reason why I think I should go. Being behind you guys doesn’t push me over the edge. If I get myself into a difficult situation I think I’m going to awaken."
He finished his pitch.
They wanted to debate his point further, but at that point it really seemed like he had already made up his mind. Speaking would’ve just wasted their time.
So after waiting for a few more minutes, Jake got bandaged with Leo’s jacket.
Then they held onto short prayers for Ken’s soul.
The girls cried here and there but at last they finally walked into the third door to whatever hell awaited them.

They appeared at a savanna mountain this time, right on one of the hilltops that covered the environment.
A calming cold wind blasted all over them, making them to blink Involuntarily.
The skies were filled with birds of different kinds, the grounds with lizards roaming around.
It wasn’t much but it was enough to convince them that this floor was definitely not going to be like the last one.
Where they appeared, was a rough road made for everyone going deeper into the tree-filled mountains.
"You all wait here, I will come get you when it’s all over."
Leo muttered, exchanging some more salutations then started his journey into the mountains.
"Be okay alright, if you see anything you can’t handle come back!"
Jennifer screamed as she waved at him.
But while everyone was all happy and cheerful, Jake on the other hand was looking at leo like a walking corpse.
"That’s the last time we are ever going to see him."
The girls turned to the leamping Jake standing beside them.
"I also had that same kind of spirit when I came here. Until I faced that Knight. This place has a tendency of crushing all hope out of you. I just wish that when he realizes that, he will still be in one piece."
