Chapter 13: The aftermath 2

’I don’t know if what I did was right, but I think I made the right call. Telling them that I don’t have a special skill breaks down any suspicion. If I told them that I awakened when the Knight disappeared it wouldn’t make sense.’

Leo pondered, walking further into the mountain wilderness.

He opened his system screen.

[Special Skill:: Assimilation >> After absorbing the enemy’s core energy, you can absorb the being into the arsenal, allowing you the ability to use that being’s abilities and attacks and summon them]

’That’s why I got the fire affinity because the Knight had fire filled inside his body.’

He touched his chin like a scientist, figuring everything out step by step.

’So I can summon that thing huh!’

The images of how terrible and strong it was covered his mind. Moving its body with incredible power, killing Ken effortlessly . Just thinking about it brought chills up his spine.

Searching for the instructions to summon it, another screen popped out .

[Summoning requirement:: Beat it in a duel]

’Is the system crazy or something? But come to think of it, you can’t really follow someone’s orders if you’re stronger than them.’

Leo went back to another part of the system where it showed options about the fire affinity he had just gathered.

[Level 1 Skill: Flaming Nucleus

Status: unlocked]

[Level 2 Skill : Hidden

Status: Locked]

[Level 3 Skill: Hidden

Status: Locked]

The moment he finished reading, a smile crept up on his face. But then his eyes descended to the last part of the information about the skills.

[The levels are upgraded just like every ability is upgraded. The progress in power of the warrior assimilated does not transfer to the master ]

"That means I have to decide where my points go then, either my own affinity or the affinity I assimilated from the Knight. I guess I understand now why I have a skill that multiplies the points I get from the kills by three."

[NOTICE: To upgrade the assimilated ability you need to defeat the Knight in a duel]

’Shit. That means my fire ability is stail for now, I better check on my own ability!’

[Name: Leo Hamany]

[Role: Attacker]

[Affinity: Darkness]

[Rank: SSS+ Rank User]

[Level 1 skill: Materialization]

Unlike the fire skill, he didn’t really seem much excited with what he had. Not that he hated it but the darkness affinity seemed much more complicated compared to fire which was simpler.

[Materialization: Imagine an object and it is formed in your hands using darkness]

’Alright I get it no-’

Smash!!

A large stone flying with extraordinary force, slammed into leo sending him straight into the walls of the mountain.

The commotion drove the birds away from the trees, even from where the others had stood, they could see that something terrible had started happening.

Cough cough!!

Leo started coughing blood, from the wounds forming deep inside his ribs.

Out of the trees surrounding Leo, more than fifteen bears came into sight, most of them carrying large rocks like the one they slammed at him.

They all looked like normal bears from Earth, but with more jacked-up bodies along with a violet crystal on top of their foreheads.

[Name: Crystal Bears

Floor: 3

SKILL: Like to attack their opponents by throwing large stones at them. They are also hazardous in short range combat

Points: 10]

The light from the screen glowed on Leo’s face. In that moment he felt like a car had run over his body and stayed there, making him go through a large surge of pain. And the crystal bears knew it too.

Suddenly two other bears threw their stones at him, each stone hitting the other, drilling him deeper creating a large hole into the walls like a carpenter hitting a nail into wood. If Leo was feeling unbearable pain at first, he was now feeling it two times worse.

The bears started moving towards Leo, but as they got even closer a voice came from the newly created hole inside the mountain.

"Are you done now!!"

The crystal bears looked at each other in surprise, puzzled by how he wasn’t dead yet.

Suddenly the ground around the area started to shake, cracks forming on the rocks that covered Leo. The signs went on for a second until finally it exploded.

Boom!!

All the rocks were scattered like a bomb had gone off, even those that some of the bears had carried were blown off their grasp.

In the skies, chunks of broken rocks fell like rain onto the ground. Sand covered the area, blocking everyone’s eyesight.

Thud thud.

Leo’s footsteps came out of the hole.

"I never thought it would work, compressing the fire ball into my hand and putting a gap between my fingers to make a fire laser . I saw the Knight do it using his helmet, but i didnt think a hand would work too"

Blood covered his face, bruises scattered everywhere like he had just lost a fight.

"Thank you for the makeup by the way, I needed to make my friends believe that I got beaten before I awakened and you guys just did that."

Uncoordinated, the fifteen bears started rushing at him, their only long-range attacks leaving them with one-on-one combat which according to the system they seemed experienced in.

Leo pulled all his energy into his hands, power coursing through until it finally formed in his palms in the shape of a large fire nucleus.

Just as the bears got near him, he compressed the fire Nucleus smaller and smaller.

The heat around it instantly became unstable.

Boom!!!!!

A fiery explosion swallowed the battlefield, blowing the bears away while uprooting trees from the ground. Burning rocks scattered through the air while smoke spread across the area.

The others were blown away as well, not really understanding what was happening. All they saw was fire spreading all over as it engulfed whatever it touched.

"Leo, please be okay."

Jennifer prayed.

"But I told him not to go, everything that might’ve caused an explosion that huge has to be beyond our league!"

Jake screamed. He had expected something like that to happen anyway , in his eyes, leo was just a boy who allowed hope to blind him.

Suddenly, their system opened.

[Name: Jake Phillips

[Role: Attacker ]

[Affinity: Lightning]

[Level 1 skill: Lightning ball]

[Successfully killed 7 Crystal Bears + 70 points]

[Now: 670]

Jake’s eyes widened as he finished reading the notification.

"Wait, it’s Leo who is killing them!!"

Sabrina couldn’t believe it either, so did Jennifer. They had expected that all the explosions were Leo getting cooked by the beasts on the Level 3 floor but somehow it seemed like the opposite.

"His affinity is fire."

Jake mouthed as color slowly started returning to his eyes.

"That’s why he can attack them all at once, and to create that explosion he must’ve focused all his flames into a single compressed point to increase the damage... I might’ve underestimated him but he is strong, maybe even stronger than any of us."

The girls looked at him in surprise, just hours ago he was speaking like Leo was going to die but all that had changed in one second.

[Successfully added 70 points, using Scavenger = 70 × 3 > 210 points

From: 1800/2000

Now: 2010]

The smell of burnt flesh and plants filled the air as the ashes of the scavenged bear corpses flew into the skies under the shining hot sun.

Some of the crystal bears that were fortunate enough to stay alive stood up from the ground with pain in their movements.

"And then we have eight left. I’m not fully sure about this skill but what better time to try it than now."

Leo stretched his hands then closed his eyes to concentrate.

A swarm of dark energy flooded his hands, compiling together until they formed two sharp twin blades in each of his hands.

[USED > Materialization]

With all the speed he could master he rushed toward the bears, butchering each and every one of them, using some combat skills he learned from movies and games.

Slash!!

One bear’s head flew into the air.

Another tried slamming its claws at him but Leo ducked underneath before driving the blade through its neck.

Blood splattered across the grass.

The remaining bears finally realized they weren’t hunting prey anymore.

They were the prey.

When a few more minutes finally passed, all the points had been gathered together. frёewebηovel.cѳm

[Successfully killed 8 Crystal Bears +80 points

Scavenger used 80 × 3 = 240 points

Now: 2250]

"I can’t believe it, he really cleared a floor alone ."

They muttered with disbelief covering their faces.

They were now moving towards the door that had finally opened. In their eyes they had 750 points, little did they know Leo had already moved to 2250 points.

"Wait Leo, before we go, I just want to say I’m sorry for not trusting you."

Jake broke the silence as they stood in front of the door that had the words EXIT on top of it.

"You were just looking out for me, so don’t worry about that, let’s just get you treated."

Leo replied with a smile on his face.

So with some awkwardness, they entered together passing through the door as they had successfully finished their battle.
