Chapter 92: Are you the parents?

"The one day I am giving you is for you to make notes of all your dirty deeds, mishandlings and come over to my office before you...’’

’Ring Ring Ring’

Ryle’s phone started ringing, interrupting his words.

The men whose hearts had rose to their throats felt themselves slowly melting in their chair as they thanked the gods for the heavenly intervention. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

They knew it was not long but they hoped that in the moment the phone is ringing, their Boss would learn the virtue of lenience and let them off the hook this time.

Ryle frowned and took out his phone. There were very people who had access to that number of his but still they did not call him unless there was something very urgent. Then...

When he saw the caller ID, he immediately answered the call without having any further thoughts.

Gasps and murmurs rose in the conference room.

Did their Boss just answer a call in the middle of the meeting? They were already thankful enough that the man’s words were cut off by the timely interruption. But they never thought the man would answer the call at such an important juncture.

’’Hello, are you fine?" Ryle’s voice was laced with a hint of concern as the moment he answered the call, he was greeted a long moment of silence. Did she call him accidentally?

The concern in his voice made the oldies look at each other again. Their Boss was actually talking to someone so softly. Who could it be?

Their gazes filled with curiosity shot at Benjamin who was standing behind the man.

Benjamin could see how all their faces screamed two words ’Lady Boss?’

However he remained standing with a straight face. For one, these people themselves were in deep mud and now they wanted to drag him inside the mud too. What did they take him for?

So what if he was standing right behind Ryle and he peeked when the man took out his phone and he even saw Daisy’s name in the caller ID? Was he going to spill this tea everywhere? No, of course not.

’’Daisy!" Ryle pushed himself to his feet and grabbed his suit jacket from the chair before he walked out of the room, leaving the men behind him in shock and awe.

All of them surrounded Benjamin, wanting to get more information about, ’’You sly man... You have been hiding things from us...’’

’’Yes, our boss even has a woman...’’

’’Not like the others he had been rumored with in the past. This time, he even answered a call in the middle of an important meeting...’’

’’Who is Daisy, Benjamin?"

Benjamin stood there stiff like a rock, without responding to their words.

’’You have to tell us, you sly goat. Did you think you will get to know our lady boss and bootlick her alone so that you can reap profits in the future?"

’’Ahh...’’ Benjamin winced when one of them pinched his waist, ’’What lady Boss?" he looked at them in disbelief.

’’You lecher... We old men haven’t survived for so many years for nothing. Do you think we have peanuts instead of brain? When has Boss answered a woman’s call in the middle of work? You must be knowing anything.’’

Benjamin wanted to cry.

It was not like he did not know that his Boss treated Daisy Chen differently or else after the revelation of his years long disguise and betrayal, it would have been hard for to retain her limbs and breath and be completely fine.

But he felt like seeing her as a potential lady boss was like a stretch. Even if something were to happen with them, after the way Daisy has been treated by Ryle, she would be more traumatized than impressed.

...

’’Daisy... say something, god dammit!" Ryle pressed the switch to the elevator, pacing in front of it.

But when he could not hear anything other than the sound of faint sobs, he disconnected the call and called her back again. The call was answered immediately, ’’Daisy, what the hell is wrong with you?"

’’Ryle... Come over...’’ Daisy stammered amidst her sobs.

"Stay on the call. I’ll be there,’’ Ryle inhaled a deep breath and composed himself as he spoke, ’’I will be there,’’ he assured her again.

He did not know how he drove, what he did and how many speed limits he broke but Ryle covered the distance of more than half an hour in fifteen minutes.

His fingers raked through his hair as impatiently stood inside the elevator, ’’Daisy, I’m almost there.’’

The woman barely said anything throughout the way but her silence did not seem like the kind that she showed usually. Her silence, for the first time, perturbed him in all negative ways.

’’Daisy, open the...’’ door.

He stopped halfway when he realized that the door was not locked from inside.

Ryle strode inside and his footsteps slowed down in front of the half ajar door of the Master bedroom for a moment before he strode in with purpose.

"Daisy,’’ he called out to the woman who was sitting on the floor, near the edge of the bed. Her back was hunched and her long hair fell forward covering her side profile.

When she heard him, she tilted her head and looked backwards and the sight that he saw him, sent a weird surge of anger in his chest. He wanted to find the person responsible for those tears and do the worst thing possible to them. The protectiveness that surged inside him was too unwarranted, too abrupt and unexpected for him to decipher.

Tears streaked down the eyes of the woman who he never saw breaking down no matter how the circumstances stood. Her eyes were red and swollen and a desperately helpless expression remained on her face. Her lips, dry and chapped, parted as she said in a hoarse voice, ’’She is not responding..’’

Only then did Ryle’s gaze shift from Daisy tear-stricken face as he stepped closer to her. Angel laid on her lap, her head lolled to one side and the girl’s face had turned unnaturally pale.

A sense of discomfort settled in Ryle’s chest but what he felt, he did not show. He walked over to the mother and daughter and squatted by their side before he picked Angel from Daisy’s lap and held her in one arm.

As he stood up, he stretched his hand towards Daisy.

She looked at his hand, confused and lost.

"Nothing has happened to her, Daisy. She is a child, just unconscious or sick. Come now, get up,’’ As Ryle spoke, even he did not realize how his voice had turned into something so gentle as if he was handling something delicate.

Daisy looked at him blankly for some time and as if his words slowly sunk in her mind, she gave him her hand as she stood up. Having been sitting in that position for too long, she stumbled as she felt her legs turning numb.

Ryle wrapped his fingers around them tightly and tugged the woman towards him, ’’Let’s go.’’

Artemis Hospital.

Daisy stood in front of the emergency room with a blank look on her face, her arms were folded in front of her chest and she glanced at the closed door.

Ryle stood right next to her in silence, his hands were tucked inside his pockets as he glanced at her side profile before gazing at the emergency room.

He wanted to console her and tell her that everything would be fine but thinking back to how the doctor took Angel to emergency room the moment she saw her, he did not know if everything was really fine. It had not been a long time knowing the child but his heart was unsettled to see her in a condition like that.

And for once in a long time, he felt helpless again. The urge to fix everything yet not being able to do anything set his heart in a distressing state.

A long time passed and both the people stood next to each other, without exchanging a single word in silence.

The doors to the emergency room opened and the doctor walked out.

Daisy’s hand fell to her sides as she approached them.

’’Are you the parents?" the doctor looked at the both of them.

’’Doctor, she...’’ Daisy could not formulate her words as she looked at the woman.

As she was about to speak again, she felt a comforting palm on her lower back. Ryle’s thumb gently stroked her back as he spoke, ’’How is the child now?"

The imposing aura around the man made the young doctor feel a bit wary. She spoke up, "Please come with me to my office.’’

Feeling their gazes on the emergency room, the woman spoke up again, ’’The child had to go through an emergency blood transfusion. Luckily, her blood type is not rare and we had it in the blood back. Her body is weak so she will be unconscious for a while. Please come with me...’’
