Chapter 91: Stop scaring mommy

Although Daisy had not known Ivy for as long as her sister did, but she has still been around for a year or so and she knew there was something behind the happy girl face she wore all the time. Otherwise, for a young who had no problems, no complaints, no worries, why would she have trouble sleeping through nights?

Even now, it was more than just reluctance to part from her and Angel that was bothering Ivy.

Daisy was aware of it but she knew there were battles that people had to fight alone sometimes. Until Ivy came to her and revealed what was bothering her or how one can help her, nobody could do anything for her?

By the time Ivy was done packing and she got ready to leave, she had tears in her eyes. She pounced on Daisy and cried her heart out.

’’Shh... it’s okay. I am not dying. You are just going to have a job,’’ Daisy rubbed the woman’s back, comforting her, ’’A good one at that. Stop crying like it’s my funeral.’’

"Why... *hiccup* Why are you not a man? I could have dated you,’’ Ivy said amidst her sobs as they parted.

"_" Speechless, Daisy flicked her forehead, ’’Where did that even come from?"

’’What do you know? I had a crush on Dexter the moment I saw him. Dee introduced him as Angel’s father and I wondered how little Angel’s mother managed to win over this handsome fish...’’ Ivy clearly remembered the day it was revealed that Dexter was none other than Diana’s sister, Daisy.

She was just as heartbroken as Maxim was happy. Maxim was happy because Diana stuck to ’Dexter’ to all the time and not knowing that Dexter was Daisy, he felt jealous.

Those used to be some happy days. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

As she thought of that, Ivy’s gaze landed on the little girl who was clutching her mother’s dress and standing on the floor, looking at her with wide eyes.

She turned her face to the other side and wiped her tears before squatting in front of the little girl.

"Vi...?"

’’Yes, I will come visit you more often,’’ Ivy kissed the little girl’s face who staggered over to her, leaving her mother’s dress as she touched her face.

Tears pooled in Ivy’s eyes again and she hurriedly looked at the ceiling. She stood up and nodded at Daisy before she grabbed her suitcase and walked out, closing the door behind her.

Angel’s eyes fell on the suitcase and she staggered over to the door with her little footsteps, ’’Vi...?"

’’Vi...?"

’’Mommy...’’ she turned to look at Daisy and fat teardrops rolled down her eyes as she started crying loudly, sitting on the floor.

’’Ivy hasn’t left anywhere. She will be coming back to us soon,’’ Daisy helplessly sat on the floor before pulling the little girl to her lap as she enveloped her in her arms but the girl only sobbed harder.

Daisy held the girl in her arms and walked around in the house, rocking her gently however it seemed ineffective.

Angel was one of those children who rarely cried. The little girl cried only when she was hungry or wanted something. So, it would have been surprising to see her crying so much had Daisy not known the bond she shared with Ivy after spending such a long time with her.

’’Alright, I will take you out to play. How about that....’’ Daisy trailed off when the little girl’s head trailed off to one side on her neck.

’’Baby...’’ Daisy rubbed the back of her head and pulled the girl away from her shoulder to look at her face but the girl’s head kept moving like that of a doll, ’’Angel!" Daisy’s breathing hitched.

She immediately went to the coffee table in front of the couch and dipped her fingers in the glass of water before sprinkling it on her face gently but the girl showed no movements.

’’Angel... Angel... Wake up...’’ Daisy mumbled as she knelt on the floor, bringing some more water to her face but when the little girl did not move, Daisy wiped her wet face with the sleeve of her blouse, her hand trembling in the process, ’’Baby, stop scaring mommy... wake up...’’

No movements.

Nothing.

Daisy held the little girl and rushed to the bedroom. She grabbed the keys to her bike but the keys slipped from the grip of her trembling fingers, falling on the floor.

Daisy’s fingers curled into a fist. She picked her phone and dialled the first number she saw.

The rings went on but Diana did not answer the call.

Daisy called Maxim but there was no answer.

’’Baby, wake up,’’ Tears rolled down her cheeks falling on Angel’s dress as Daisy called out to her in a panic.

She looked at her phone through her blurry vision and called the only person she could think of. freewebnøvel.coɱ

...

Harper Societies.

In the conference room, the board members sat in utter silence.

’’You people take this place as a shopping mall, do you not?’’ Ryle said with a wide smile on his face, ’’Come and go as you wish, mess around with information as you wish and now in the meeting, you have the audacity to try to gaslight me into believing that you all are doing a very good job in running my company.’’

’’Boss...’’

’Clang’

Ryle pressed a pistol on the round table, the sound of it clinking against the table had the men uncomfortably stiffening in their seats.

’’I will give you one day,’’ Ryle tilted his chin, ’’And guess what you are supposed to do in that one day?"

Silence greeted the man’s question as the men lowered their heads, not daring to respond to his question.

’’Answer now, will you?" Ryle’s voice turned gentler, sending slithering goosebumps throughout the men’s bodies, ’’What are you supposed to do in one day?" he asked again, softly.

’’A-Apologize to you properly for not being... able to fulfil our duties properly,’’ one man stammered.

’’Reflect... on our actions,’’ the other said, hesitation.

Ryle grinned.

But the wider the smile was, the more they grimaced.

Despite how handsome the man was, to them, it looked like a devil who had fallen to the pits of hell was smiling at them at the doom he was about to bring.
