Chapter 93: How is the child now?

Daisy, however, did not look away from the place.

Ryle calmly said, ’’Let’s talk over there inside the emergency room.’’

’’Sir, it’s not a place to talk...’’

Ryle looked at the woman, ’’Did I stutter?"

A chill crawling down the woman’s spine when she felt the murderous aura around the man.

Inside the emergency room, the doctor had composed herself, going back to her composed stature but she looked at Daisy while speaking, "I am very apologetic to say this but your child is suffering from thalassemia.’’

"This condition is pretty common. If I may ask, is one of you afflicted with the same condition?"

Daisy finally lifted her gaze from the little girl who was lying in the middle of the huge bed, looking even tinier than she already was. As she looked at the doctor, she spoke up, ’’I don’t have it.’’

The doctor was about turn to Ryle when Daisy continued, ’’And he is not the father of my child.’’

The doctor stopped, ’’Oh, I am so sorry for the misunderstanding. So, as it stands, a baby can have thalassemia if both parents are carriers of the faulty gene or at least one of them is. Even if both the parents do not have it, then it can be something passed through the genes, causing the gene mutation in the child.’’

’’What exactly is this condition that you are talking about?" Ryle was on the verge of losing his patience.

’’Thalassemia is a genetic blood disease that causes the body to produce fewer healthy red blood cells and less haemoglobin. Some types of thalassemia can affect babies, including alpha-thalassemia major, which can lead to miscarriage or death shortly after birth. Beta thalassemia major, also known as Cooley’s anemia, can cause severe anemia and bone abnormalities,’’ the doctor explained and glanced at Daisy.

"In your child’s case, she is suffering from beta thalassemia, which can be a good thing or bad thing from what perspective you see it.’’

’’How is it a good thing that the child is suffering?" Ryle’s voice dropped.

The doctor could not help but cough, ’’Sir, in the worst case scenario, if the child had the other type of this condition then it would have been hard even for the best doctors in the world to save her.’’ freewebnovёl.ƈom

’’You...’’

Daisy grabbed Ryle’s hand to stop him from speaking any further.

Ryle closed his eyes and inhaled a deep breath to prevent himself from doing anything wrong. Even if Angel was not diagnosed with the worst option but she was still suffering. Did these doctors get their degrees while on drugs?

"Children suffering from these condition go through worse of symptoms, some have their face and head bones changing shape, some face slow growth, and some become irritable while going through extreme tiredness...’’

’’Our child, is not going through any of that so it is advisable for you to talk about the solutions now,’’ Ryle’s eyes narrowed.

The doctor was put on edge. She felt like she was ticking off the man by anything she said at this point.

"Doctor, I just noticed that my daughter had lost consciousness and turned extremely pale...’’

’’Yes. Since her symptoms are subtle, it is a very good sign for us. Has she ever gone through this before?"

Daisy fell into thought, ’’Sometimes,’’ she remembered, ’’There have been times when she keeps sleeping for longer periods as if she is tired and very rarely she is irritable. But I thought it is only normal for babies to sleep more.’’

The doctor nodded, ’’You are right about that. In fact, kids with beta thalassemia trait don’t need treatment. Children with beta thalassemia major need lifelong medical care that mostly includes blood transfusions about every 2–4 weeks or maybe every 2 months depending on her symptoms. A few lifestyle changes will be recommended along with some medications to remove the extra iron from their bodies.’’

’’Will she be fine?’’ Daisy whispered.

Ryle unconsciously flipped the position of their hands such that he was holding hers as he squeezed her fingers.

The doctor fell into thought for a few moments before she looked at Daisy, ’’I will be very honest about this, Miss Chen. It depends on how the child’s body responds to the treatment. But seeing the current condition, I assure you that you have nothing to worry about.’’

"Daisy.’’

The door to the emergency room opened and Maxim strode inside, concern etched on his face.

The female doctor greeted him in surprise, ’’Dr. Warner, do you...’’

"How is the child now?"

’’Optimistic. In fact, her condition is much better right now. She can be discharged once she regains consciousness,’’ the doctor explained in a respectful tone knowing that the man in front of her was none other than the grandson of the director of the hospital.

Once the doctor left, Maxim approached Angel. He checked her reports before he put the file aside and glanced at Daisy, ’’I was in a surgery which is why I missed your call. I am so sorry.’’

Daisy sighed, finally recovering from the burden that had been weighing her down, ’’Don’t worry. It happened too abruptly so I could not process things better,’’ she paused for a moment before continuing, ’’I also ended up calling Diana in a hurry. She missed my call but if she asks, be subtle about the details.’’

Maxim nodded. Knowing Diana, she will overthink and panic till she landed herself in a hospital and combined with her pregnancy hormones, it would be worse so he understood what Daisy was indicating.

It was only then Maxim gaze shifted from Daisy’s face to Ryle’s and Daisy’s intertwined fingers. His brows rose slightly as he glanced at the man.

Feeling Maxim’s gaze, Ryle looked at Maxim and followed his line of sight. But instead of letting go of Daisy’s hand, he glanced at the wall, pretending to not know anything.

However, Daisy also realized the exchanges happening in the room. She promptly pulled her hand out of Ryle’s grip.
