Chapter 87: I went there for you

"I just wanted you around, Daisy. And I did not to know how to have you around. I was upset at what you did and that stopped me from initiating any contact with you but that does not mean that I want you out of my sight. I don’t. I did not want you to stop showing your face in front of me so I did what I thought was the best solution to this whole fiasco.’’

He emphasized his words, not stopping even at the sight of astonishment that appeared on her face. She was startled. She thought he hated her to the extent the he went to such extremes to keep her away but his words nullified everything she had ever believed in.

And he did not stop there.

Like a determined man, he did not break the eye contact even for once as he spoke, ’’I sent my lawyers over with those ridiculous conditions because I knew, given your current state, be it as Dexter or as Daisy, $50 billion is not something you will be able to have to throw on a jerk’s face. That will leave you with two choices, choosing the second option that is the lifetime contract, a contract to work for me forever or to ignore the lawyers. And in both the cases, you will end up by my side.’’

His words were like a thorn, reminding her of something she could not avoid even if she wanted to, ’’Your twisted approaches are not my concern. I do not want to have any sort of exchanges with a man who sees my vulnerabilities and uses them against me to attain his motives. You knew that I won’t have $50 billion and you used the information...’’

’’I am a selfish man, Daisy. I am a jerk; ruthless and ambitious. To get to my goals, I would go against any sort of reason or morality that stops me from achieving it. And I have never regretted it before...’’ He gently tugged her wrist, pulling her closer till there were barely inches between their body, ’’Not until I saw the money that you sent alongwith the text that you want to have nothing to do with me.’’

Daisy did not say anything. She did not even look into his eyes, not confronting his words, not offering hers.

’’Silence is not going to work, Daze,’’ Ryle whispered.

’’I believed you wanted me out of your sight.’’

’’Oh? Why would I then bother going to Maxim’s and Diana’s place today?"

Daisy looked to the side, ’’To meet Maxim, your best friend. Or to have a free meal.’’

Ryle softly chuckled, ’’Really? Is that how we are going to play it?"

The sound of his laughter was so low yet vibrant. She could not help but look at him, the corner of his eyes slightly crinkling, amusement all over his face as he laughed as if she had said something funny. Subtly, his grip on her wrist loosened and he pulled her closer, the few inches between them seemed to have disappeared as their bodies collided gently.

The top of her head barely reached his collarbone and somehow from so close, she felt like she was even shorter than him.

Daisy’s lips parted, her breathing quickened as she looked up at the man. freewebnovel.cσ๓

Ryle released her hand from his grip and hooked a finger under her chin, tilting her head even further as he lowered his, ’’I did not go there for them, my friend or food. I went there for you. You, this unpredictable, gorgeous woman who has started haunting me in my dreams. And worst of it all, I have never been more enticed to be haunted like that,’’ as soon as his words dropped, his gaze fell on her lips.

Their lips were inches away when Daisy turned her face to the side and stepped back from, her cheeks rosy and her eyes wandering.

Ryle immediately felt the loss of warmth from his body.

’Grr...’

Daisy’s face turned redder.

Ryle suppressed the smile that was beginning to emerge on his face.

’’Stay. I’ll get you something to eat,’’ he said.

’’No need to order anything at this hour. I’ll get something at home.’’

"Who told you I was going to order anything?"

To Ryle’s question, Daisy looked at him, utterly surprised for the umpteenth time in the night.

When Daisy followed Ryle inside his kitchen, she stood at one corner and watched as the man busied himself with arranging ingredients on the kitchen counter. He was not slow and given his swift movements, it seemed like he was familiar with the workings of his kitchen. It did not look like it was his first time there or he was pretending to be all-knowing.

She quietly observed his movements when her gaze fell on an untouched bottle of water kept on the kitchen counter. Feeling thirsty, she reached out towards it but before her hand could touch the bottle, it was taken away from her reach.

Daisy looked at Ryle who had moved at the speed of light to move the bottle away, ’’What... are you doing?’’ she asked the man, bewildered by his actions.

’’Trust me, you would not want to drink this one,’’ Ryle said with utmost sincerity, a hint of awkwardness flitting across his face, ’’It has been to places,’’ his gaze shifted to his pants for a split-second before he threw the bottle in the trashcan and took out another bottle from the refrigerator as he handed it to Daisy.

Although confused, Daisy accepted the bottle from him, ’’You know how to cook,’’ she remarked after taking a few gulps while observing his actions.

’’Not many things. Just a few simple dishes...’’ he replied while chopping vegetables.

His movements were a little rusty as if he was doing it after a long time but he was doing everything cleanly.

When Ryle looked up, Daisy seemed rather surprised. He chuckled and turned his attention back to cooking.
