Chapter 86: I just wanted you around

Seeing his urgent expressions, Daisy said, ’’I am fine. I am not unwell.’’

’’Then why would you know that the dart was not ordinary?"

’’Because I was unconscious for 3 days,’’ Daisy knew her body and mind. She was not that delicate that a shock would leave her unconscious for days, ’’And if you were the person who orchestrated this then you would have never bothered to take care of me during that time.’’

She pushed herself to her feet as she looked at the man, ’’I was only concerned about Angel’s safety that night. I thought I almost lost her for my foolishness of trusting you. I did not think about anything logically. But I have been reflecting over it in the past few days. And I know as things stand right now, it’s not you. So...’’ she looked at him sincerely, ’’...I want you to tell me the truth.’’

"Oh, why do you think I should tell you the truth?" Ryle looked at her, visibly amused, ’’Just because you are asking me to?"

"Because it involves me,’’ Daisy responded without missing a beat.

"Does that means a person has the right to know about anything that involves them?"

’’They do.’’ ƒгeewebnovёl.com

’’Oh, then perhaps you should start by telling me how you managed to get the $50 billion, don’t you think so?"

Daisy’s lips twitched. She could not understand why he was so hung up on that matter. He wanted a compensation and she gave it to him. The matter should have been done and dusted but since she had questions that she wanted answers for, she told him honestly, ’’I took help.’’

’’Oh?’’ Ryle stepped back on the woman and sat on the couch as he motioned for her to continue speaking, ’’Who helped you with such a ridiculously high amount?" freeωebnovēl.c૦m

’’So you know it’s a ridiculously high amount?" Daisy frowned, ’’If you have no interest in telling me what happened that night, then I think I should take my leave now.’’

’’I did not say I would not tell you,’’ the words slipped from Ryle’s mouth almost alarmingly fast. He cleared his throat.

Daisy took a seat and looked at the man quietly.

She is only concerned about her business. Ryle could not help but think as he glanced at the woman who was expecting an answer from him. It felt like she had nothing to do with him. She was just here because of her curiousity and questions to which if she got an answer then she would stay, if she did not then she would leave.

And he did not know why he felt grievous at the realization of that.

Ryle tapped his fingers on the couch, reflecting on his feelings. ’’I could not find anything,’’ he looked at the woman after a long time as he confessed, ’’I have been looking into this matter since that very night but I could not find anything essential except for the fact that you...’’

’’...that the dart that hit me was poisoned,’’ Daisy finished his words.

Ryle sighed, ’’Pretty much. I wanted to tell you about it but things escalated that night and I lost my calm. Then, I assumed it would be better for you to not know about it since the poison was already detoxified and you were recovering well.’’

’’What’s better for me won’t be decided by you,’’ she never appreciated it when people in her life tried to take decisions for her.

Just because light pricked the eyes did not mean she wanted to be kept in the dark.

"It’s my fault. My apologies,’’ Ryle said sincerely, watching her eyes widening with a look that screamed ’this obnoxious jerk is apologizing to me?’

He suppressed his smile and continued, ’’I am sorry,’’ his eyes flashing with a teasing glint when her eyes widened even further looking like a deer caught in headlights.

’’I am really sorry...’’

"Stop,’’ Daisy glared at the man.

Having gotten his fair share of fun, Ryle did not provoke the woman any further, knowing it would not take her a long time to get up and leave if she got pissed.

And he... did not want her to go.

’’Get me a laptop,’’ Daisy said suddenly, surprising Ryle.

However, he did not question her. He got up to his feet and walked upstairs.

After a few minutes, he came back with a laptop that she found rather familiar.

’’Isn’t that your laptop?" Daisy could not help but ask when he placed it on the coffee table, right in front of her.

’’Yeah, use it. It’s rather good.’’

"_" I am not asking you whether it is good or bad.

Regardless of anything, Daisy turned the laptop towards her and tapped on a few keys, till the screen suddenly turned blank. And then her fingers gradually picked up pace, moving across the keyboard like they looked like a blur.

Ryle was initially curious about what she wanted to do but he did not realize when his centre of focus shifted from what she was doing to how she was looking. He had seen ’Dexter’ doing all these things countless times and he would be impressed by each time. But apparently, Daisy handling ’his’ laptop and doing her things on it so efficiently seemed so entrancing somehow. He could not look away from her.

After a long time, Daisy stopped typing on the keyboard. She sighed and with a soft sigh, she closed the laptop, ’’Where is that boat skipper?"

’’Dead,’’ Ryle replied nonchalantly, without bothering to remind the woman of the fact that she could not be expecting a person to be alive after piercing two bullets in vital parts of his body.

Daisy nodded calmly.

"Did you find anything?"

"That locality does not have any camera that I can hack into. With the boat skipper dead, there is no possibility of interrogating him. The only way out is to reach out to his family to check if we can find who he has been in touch with in the past few days.’’

’’Is that all?" Ryle glanced at her in interest.

Daisy shook her head, ’’To reach out to his family, we will have to get hold of the people who work with him but I don’t think it will be of much help.’’

Ryle’s lips curved up, ’’And why do you think so?"

"Because the man might not be just an ordinary boat skipper. His aim was on point, even though it was just a dart, it was aimed in the middle of the back of your neck,’’ Daisy could vividly remember the position in which Ryle was sitting. She pushed him to the side in time otherwise, another moment of delay would have possibly killed him if the poison was a potent one by making it spread to the other parts of the body in a flash.

’Grr...’

Ryle’s gaze wandered off to subtle sound coming from Daisy’s stomach. When he looked up at her face, he saw a faint tint of pink on her cheeks.

’’I’ll leave now..’’

"Stay over for supper,’’ Ryle grabbed her hand the moment she stood up.

Daisy looked over at him, wanting to deny but before she could say anything, the man continued, ’’Please?"

Her brows tugged together, ’’What do you want from me? I settled the lawsuit as per your conditions without dragging the matter any further and I told you that we would have nothing to do with each other once it is settled,’’ Daisy stepped back from him, a complicated expression passing in her eyes as she said, ’’If there is something else that you want me for, then tell me, I’ll do that for you considering our long term past working relationship but that’s all I can offer you. I don’t want your hot and cold treatment, Mr. Harper."

’’Daisy, do you think I sent that contract to threaten you? To corner you?" Ryle strode towards her.

Daisy wanted to step back but as if he could read her mind, he gripped her wrist in a firm hold, stopping her moving away from him.

’’I was upset. I have always trusted you. I trusted you to such an extent that I turned blind to the truth that was right in front of my eyes,’’ When Ryle talked about it, for the first time, he realized how pathetic he had been throughout this whole time to treat her that way after she disappointed him. But he did not blame himself for not being able to put a finger on what he felt. How could he? He had never felt anything as such before. Disappointment, concern, anger, and still the reluctance to hurt her.

Daisy struggled to move away from him but his grip on her hand tightened, holding it in an iron clad grip, firm enough to keep her in place, but light enough to not hurt her. For the first time she realized that the man whom she always thought was not physically strong was actually not weak.

’’I just wanted you around,’’ Ryle knew if he let go of her hand then she might never come to hear him again and even if she did, he might not be able to say it.
