Chapter 314: Breaking The News To Amsilia

He was gone, forever.

The world fell silent for a while.

It brought Skyla relief for he would never be able to hurt her child ever again and yet she couldn’t help but cry. freewebnovёl.ƈom

The feelings it had invoked in her were so conflicting.

Her life with him flashed in front of her eyes, the abuse, the insults and their first meeting. At times he would smile at her, though it was cold and never touched his eyes.

Everything about him was blood and death now.

"Hush! It’s fine. You are safe and he will never hurt you or Arata again. He is gone," Zyair comforted her. His eyes fixated on the man who had almost taken his wife and child from him. There was no remorse in his sapphire eyes.

"He needs to be buried...that was his last wish and I will tell his mother. There will be no tombstone..." Skyla told him what Doran had requested.

"It will be done, let’s get you home. You have been through enough."

Zyair gestured to Kail before leading Skyla away. Kail understood what he needed to do.

On the way home Skyla turned to Zyair and solemnly stated. She was still shaking from what she had witnessed today.

"I wish to build a safe place for abused women. Women who have nowhere to go and are stuck in abusive marriages because of that. The kind of woman we met on that cliff. It has been on my mind since then. So help me lessen the abuse women have to face daily."

Zyair kept his focus on the road but he answered in earnest.

"It will be my top priority. We will purchase the land in the next few days and start working on whatever you have in plans. Don’t worry."

A slight calmness settled in Skyla’s heart. Her mission was now to liberate as many women from such abusive men as was possible for her.

Two Weeks Later

Skyla went to meet Amsilia. She wasn’t sure how she would tell her but it needed to be done. Plus she needed the papers so she could claim the ownership of her father’s company. It was falling apart.

She had come along with Kail and wished to speak with Amsilia alone.

She slowly walked inside the place which never became her home. Haunting memories still existed in every corner of this place.

Amsilia met her halfway, the woman was nothing but a skeleton of her former self. As if forgotten by the world and reduced to these walls.

Her sunken eyes and gaunt expression clutched Skyla’s heart.

"Skyla, I am so sorry, my child. I should have come to see you." She quickly stepped forward and embraced Skyla, the latter could sense her guilt and regrets.

"It’s good to see you and you don’t have to apologise," Skyla answered as she was led into the familiar surroundings and settled on the sofa she had done thousands of times before.

"I didn’t have the courage or strength to face you after what he did to you and Madame Maven. He is dead to me, he will never step foot in this house, if he ever does I will call the police and have him captured." Amsilia tried to reassure Skyla, the pain on her face was profound.

Skyla’s heart ached immensely at her words. How was she to tell the woman that they had killed her son? No matter what he did, the pain of losing your child was compared to nothing.

Skyla turned to face the defeated woman, this was harder than she had anticipated. Filling her lungs with as much oxygen as was possible, Skyla spoke with agony reflecting in her voice.

"What I am about to tell you, should remain between us. Can I have your word for it?"

Amsilia quickly nodded her head, not knowing what bombshell Skyla was about to drop on her.

"I promise, it will remain within my heart and die with me."

Silence prevailed for a while before Skyla spoke.

"He is gone, forever. He tried to kill my child, my husband and his actions led to Madame Maven’s death. That’s something I could never forgive him for."

Amsilia blinked at her for a while, not a word escaping her. She just let the truth sink in. She had denounced him but hearing this, hearing of his crimes didn’t hurt any less. Deep down she had understood that’s how it was going to happen.

Slowly the silent tears followed, mingling with painful reminders of her son. The intrusive thoughts clouded her mind on how differently she might have done things to have an alternate outcome than the one she had.

"I am sorry, we tried but he didn’t stop." Skyla embraced the distraught woman who bawled openly in Skyla’s arms. frёewebnoѵēl.com

"I — I feel l–like I fail–led him as a mother..." Amsilia hiccuped, the pain pierced her heart and settled there forever.

"It’s not your fault, it’s the fault of those who like to wreck other people’s families, those who want to hurt little kids." Skyla kept comforting her. The conversation between them was heart-rending but Skyla stayed with her for a while, letting her pour her heart put. Telling her to visit the grave that will remain nameless, but would need her presence.

She also informed the grieving mother of her plan to build a place for women like them. Amsilia was onboard. She didn’t wish anyone to go through the same fate as she had done.

"I would like to work in your place once you build it. At least I will have a purpose and will be able to guide other women. No one should have to go through what we did," Amsilia answered with a resolve and Skyla agreed.

"I would love to have you by my side."

Later Skyla went up to the room which could have a happy couple living inside it. Instead, it was abandoned for one was dead and the other was married to someone else, still trying to sort her life.

The tormenting memories gripped her, making it difficult for her to breathe. The place where the blue divan used to lay was empty now. She knocked on the floor with her knuckles and found the hidden place under the floorboards. Prying it open, she was left slightly aghast.

Astonishing was the fact that she didn’t only find the papers but also their wedding rings. Neatly stored in a velvet box. So many emotions swirled inside her but she placed them back where she had found them.

They held no meaning for her, the only ring that mattered was the one she wore on her finger.

Taking the papers, Skyla carefully shuffled through them. Her hand lovingly rubbed the place where her father had signed.

After more than ten years she was finally able to get hold of the company and now she would take it to new heights.

Skyla quietly sealed the place under the floorboards and left the room which held countless amounts of memories and emotions for her.

That was the last time she visited that room.

Never again for that Chapter of her life had been closed.

Forever.
