Chapter 310: Did You Punish Him?
Skyla had already gone to sleep when Zyair got home. Arata was awake and playing with her grandmother. It was quite late in the night so Meena had taken the responsibility of her granddaughter, letting Skyla get rest.
It was exhausting being a mother especially with the first born where one had no clue on what to do and what not to do.
Zyair stepped inside the house and found his mother lovingly talking to her granddaughter.
"Mom! How are you? She is still awake?" He bent down and kissed his mother’s head and then took his daughter in his arms. She seemed in a good mood and even had smiles going on.
"She is happy and refuses to sleep so I told Skyla to sleep while she played. She had been clingy all day and wanted to be held by her mother."
"Did you tire your mommy out? You naughty girl." Zyair lovingly rubbed his nose with hers while his mother watched with affection. He then began rocking her in his strong arms.
"Are you hungry? I will fix the table for you," Meena said while getting up. She seemed tired herself.
"No, mom. I ate. You can get some sleep, I will take on her duty now. It’s Baba-Baby time, is it not, my doll?" He kissed the tip of that snub of a nose she had.
"Zyair!" Meena called her son, a bit worriedly and he lifted his eyes to find her mother’s concerned ones and asked.
"What’s it?"
"Skyla had been asking about Madame Maven, I think it’s time you will have to tell her the truth. She deserves to make her peace too," she told him wearily. Zyair had been dreading having this conversation with her but he could feel Skyla’s agitation lately.
"Oh! I see. I guess I will have to talk to her. Good night, Mom."
"Good night, my son."
Zyair carried little Arata and headed towards his room, meanwhile rocking and talking to her.
"Let’s not wake up your mummy," he whispered to his daughter who had begun to fall asleep in his arms. Knowing that daddy was home.
Zyair slowly opened the door and entered. Pale night light dimly lit the room. Skyla was sound asleep so Zyair decided to put Arata in her cot.
To have her closeby they had shifted Arata’s cot in their room.
Slowly kissing the top of her head, Zyair gently placed Arata down in the cot. She had fallen asleep. He covered her with her blanket and ensured she was comfortable.
"Good night, little princess," he affectionately murmured, patting her head filled with curls.
Quietly walking away Zyair opened the front buttons of his shirt. He took it off and headed to the bathroom to change into loose clothes for the night.
Exiting the bathroom he made his way to the bed and slowly slipped under the blanket, taking extra care not to wake Skyla up. But as soon as he laid down Skyla’s eyes opened and sought him, she sleepily called him out.
"Zy! You are back."
His strong arms warmly had her in his embrace. Placing an ardent kiss on her forehead he answered.
"Yes! My queen. How are you feeling?"
Her eyes were red, she could hardly keep them open.
"You came so late, is everything all right? Has Arata gone to sleep?" Zyair gently brushed her curls aside from her face and lovingly gazed at his beautiful wife. She seemed so worried.
"I had some business to attend to, so got held up. But I am here now. Arata has gone to sleep. Don’t worry."
She nodded at him and wrapped her arms around his contoured body. Burying her face in his hard chest she quietly said.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Of course." Deep down Zyair knew what she wished to ask and he had readied himself to console her. They couldn’t keep lying to her anymore. Skyla lifted her disturbed eyes, she had fully awakened now.
"Where is Madame Maven? She is not living with some random relatives, is she? She is still in the hospital? Is she in a coma?" She asked, searching his cerulean eyes for truth. They dimmed and the anger bubbled in them like a fire of rage. His hold on her slightly tightened as his body went taut like a stretched bowstring.
"Sky! You will have to be brave for what I am about to tell you. You are still healing so..."
"Please! Tell me," she requested in a voice clouded with emotions, holding back tears. Zyair gulped with some difficulty and drew in much-needed oxygen.
"She succumbed to her injury. The blood loss was too much and doctors couldn’t save her..."
Skyla’s hand backtracked from Zyair and she clamped her mouth with them. The tears spilled out like pearls of regret and a sharp pang of pain erupted in her lower belly as it convulsed at the news.
"NOOO! You — are lying," she choked out and clutched her belly. The shock was too much for her. Her heart relentlessly ached.
"Skyyy! Please! Be careful."
He collected her back in his comforting arms, his rough hands slowly rubbing her back as she wailed in his chest, clutching the front of his nightshirt. Her heart was in shambles and it immensely pained his, seeing her like that. Doran had taken so much from them.
"S–she can’t leave me too," she brokenly whispered in Zyair’s skin, as the tears flowed nonstop, soaking in his shirt.
"I am so sorry, I didn’t wish to lie but you weren’t in a condition where I could inform you of the truth." Zyair placed soft kisses on her head hoping to calm her a bit but she silently cried nonstop for hours, not speaking at all until Arata woke up.
Zyair had to go fetch her so Skyla could feed their daughter. She slowly sat up like a broken woman and took her daughter in her arms.
As she began to feed, Skyla raised her head and stared at her husband with determination written all over her face. Even with tears and hurt he could sense she was making a decision. A decision she wouldn’t back down from.
"I wish to visit her grave tomorrow to pay my respects and after doing that, I want to pay a visit to Doran."
The ground seemed to have slipped from underneath Zyair’s feet, the intense worries lined his handsome face as he shook his head at her. This was something he never wished to happen. Doran would never lay his eyes on Skyla ever again.
"No..." He began but was instantly cut off.
"Zyair, please. Let me do this, I want to face him one last time. Don’t deny me that," she told him flatly, wiping her face of the salty water which still oozed from her resilient eyes. Zyair knew she wouldn’t back down but he tried again.
"I will deal with him on your behalf."
"Zyair, that’s my fight too. He hurt you and my child. For once I want to stand in front of him and show him that he didn’t break me that I survived. Don’t take this away from me," Skyla pleaded with tears still shining in her eyes. Zyair contemplated for a few moments, the veins in his temples throbbed as he finally answered.
"I will stay by your side at all times then. You should let Kail and I handle the devil personified. Seeing him might trigger your trauma."
"Zyair! I will talk to him alone. I love you but you have to let me do this," she said with so much pain that Zyair almost shuddered. He quietly sat by her side and wrapped one of his arms around her, letting her lean on him.
"I don’t wish for you to ever lay your eyes on that man. But I will always respect your wishes. I just don’t want you to get hurt again. Hasn’t he done enough damage?"
Zyair woundedly asked, pressing his lips on her temple and letting them linger there.
"He has, that’s why it has to end. I have some unsaid things left to say to him. After it, that Chapter will forever close."
There was a cold calm embroiled in her words which put every sense in Zyair on high alert. He knew this was a mistake but she might try to find him on her own if he didn’t take her along which would be even more dangerous.
"All right." Zyair gave in.
"Did you punish him for trying to kill our daughter?" She asked in a voice void of emotions, a switch seemed to have been flipped inside her. Her hand intertwined with Zyair. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
"Yes!" fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
"How?" Skyla’s other hand held her daughter who was still feeding on her.
"I broke all the bones in both his hands," Zyair told her with some reluctance, he didn’t wish to expose that dark part of him to her.
"Good," she replied, not at all unsettled by what he had done. Making Zyair understand in that moment how much she had changed as well.
His wife and daughter fell asleep in his arms while he kept wondering what more he could do to protect them.
