Chapter 309: 27 Bones

Skyla was rocking Arata in her arms trying to put her to sleep. She had been restless, so Skyla was singing her a lullaby. The cute ridges on her forehead were slowly dissolving.

"Sleep my child,

Sweet dreams to you

My precious one

My only one."

She was taking a walk in the corridor, the weather had gotten chillier outside so Skyla didn’t take the little one out.

Arata’s half-hooded eyes were closing slowly as she struggled to stay awake and cry more. Skyla couldn’t help but smile warmly at her daughter.

"Skyla! Is she asleep?" Meena walked over and asked in a hushed voice so as not to disturb her granddaughter.

"Almost, two more minutes and she will be out," Skyla answered slowly.

"Come, we will have tea then." Meena helped Skyla put Arata in her cot. They covered her with the blanket Meena had knitted for her. Cuddles sat snuggly beside Arata, watching over her.

Placing small tender kisses on her forehead both women quietly walked out, almost on their toes and in slow motion closed the door without making a sound.

"Who can imagine she can scream so loud when she sleeps so peacefully," Meena said with a small cackle falling through her lips. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

"I swear, don’t know which one of us had such a temper," Skyla chuckled back.

Settling down in their living room, the servant poured them pink tea with nuts in it. Skyla picked up the delicate porcelain cup and took a small sip. It was delicious. She picked up an almond cookie from the plate and took a small bite.

It again reminded her of Madame Maven. She had taught Skyla to make cookies and other sweet confectioneries. Every time she asked about her, everyone tried to change the topic. Skyla had been fearing the worst but seeing how they avoided the topic she had been quiet but not anymore.

"Mom, can you tell me something truthfully?" She asked carefully, keeping her eyes on the hot tea. The wisps of smoke were escaping it like white tendrils.

"Of course!" Meena placed her cup down on the saucer and faced her daughter-in-law.

"Where is Madame Maven? Why won’t anyone tell me about her clearly? Zyair said she is with relatives, recovering. I am finding it hard to believe." The pain in Skyla’s voice jerked her heart.

She placed her hand on Skyla’s and slowly squeezed.

"I wish I could answer you but I promised Zyair. You will have to ask him when he comes home today."

"I understand." The girl with red hair nodded in understanding but her stomach was one big knot of apprehensions and bad thoughts.

Meena on the other hand had her mind swirling with how she would comfort her once the truth surfaced. She knew it would break Skyla and she was just recovering from such traumatic experiences. Physical as well as emotional.

"You know how long that woman served you before you had her shot and killed?" Zyair asked in that quiet voice of his which bordered on gloominess so profound that there would be no escape for the bloodied man in front of him. Zyair’s eyes were nothing but slits of hatred and malice.

Doran spat out blood, his eyes could hardly open because of how much Kail had punched him. His hands were tightly tied to the armchair, the ropes dug into his skin causing abrasions. The hands were laid straight on the armrest. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

"Am I supposed to?" He answered with a twisted smirk, the blood dripping from his mouth as several of his teeth had been broken.

"Yes! Let me refresh your memory. She served you for ten years. Giving her sweat and blood, literally. And that’s what she got in return for her service?" Zyair said, trying to instigate him.

"Oh! Please, stop with the emotional taunts. She was just in the way, I wasn’t the one to pull the trigger, I was just there for Skyla. She was mine, not yours. The only good thing in my life and you took her away from me," Doran barked like a bloodthirsty demon.

"The only good thing, whom you tortured and manipulated. I feel sorry for you Doran and lucky for myself. You had a ruby and you threw her away as if she was a worthless rock," Zyair taunted, crossing his fingers and placing his chin on them as he vilely stared at the repulsive man in front of him.

"I loved her as much as I could. You think it’s easier after years of abuse, I thought you understood better than anyone." Doran shook his head, the crimson liquid dripping on his clothes and soaking in them.

Zyair silently stared at him for a while before speaking in a harsh tone.

"You should have understood not to repeat what was done to you. Instead, you did exactly that. There’s no excuse to dim someone’s light."

"Don’t you think I tried? You think you are so high and mighty because you haven’t hurt her yet. That darkness inside of you, the one you keep hidden from her, will come out soon. You can’t hide it forever. And you will hurt her too. You and I are just the same. It’s hilarious how you believe yourself to be better than me," Doran shouted out in rage, his eyes holding insanity. Humanity had slipped from him.

Zyair casually leaned back on the chair and tipped his head to the right before stating.

"You sound like a child, whose toy gets broken and he goes on a rampage breaking others as well. Even of those who meant him no harm. I will never hurt Skyla or any innocent person for that matter, because I understand how much it hurts and would never want it for others. So please, stop crying over what happened years ago, you are not a child but a grown-up. If I could heal and keep my darkness at bay, so could you. You are just weak, who wish to hurt others to feel good about yourself. Your tiny bug brain can’t comprehend what love is. I am going to enjoy seeing you slowly rot away."

Doran screeched, hearing his words. "Why don’t you kill me and get this over with?"

Zyair threw his head back and let out a hollowed laugh, the one that bordered on his own insanity, like a grim reaper without a scythe.

He answered. "You tried to kill my wife and unborn child. Death will not come easy to you. You will beg me for death as I take you apart limb after limb. But you will stay alive and feel the pain hundreds of times over." Zyair clicked the fingers of his right hand and Kail came forward, he handed him a small hammer.

Quietly getting up he approached Doran like a panther, ready to pounce on his prey. Bending over he shoved his emotionless face right in front of Doran’s and menacingly whispered.

"There are 27 bones in a single hand and I am going to break each one of them as it dared hurt the person I love most in this world. I will let them heal and then I will break them again and again and again, until you will lose count."

Doran flinched back, his Adam’s apple bobbing at Zyair’s words, so void of any emotions except pure vile hatred.

"Let’s begin."

The hammer was raised and heartlessly brought down on the middle of his index finger. The crunching and breaking off of bone mingled with the chilling outcry of Doran. But it was just music to Zyair’s ears.

Not a shard of mercy could be seen on the face of one winged angel for he had turned into the Angel of revenge.

Zyair and Kail were heading home from the secret location they had been keeping Doran. Zyair seemed in a particularly good mood now as he drummed his fingers on his thigh. He had been meaning to ask Kail about Erdith so he grabbed the opportunity.

"Is there something going on between you and Edith?" He asked as casually as was possible but his words came out like a sly fox’s.

Kail almost hit the brakes to halt the car, he lost focus for a second. His heart jumped into his throat. He didn’t wish for his boss to find this out and think he was slacking or shagging Zyair’s business partner.

"Sir...I...actually..." The words were broken and Kail had no clue on how to answer him. Zyair let out an amused laugh, it rumbled in his throat.

"It’s ok, Kail. You have a right to do whatever you want in your personal life. It just came as a surprise to me since girls were teasing you. Makes sense why you were in Marica on your vacation."

"I apologise, Sir. It wasn’t my intention but it just happened," Kail profusely apologised, staying professional still.

"Well, it always happens and before we realise it we are neck deep in it. Good luck. Erdith is an amazing lady, don’t break her heart. You have plenty of bones to break off your enemies instead," Zyair told him in amusement.

"Sir, I will keep that in mind. Thank you for not sacking me." Kail was still apologetic in tone with his set jaw.

"Don’t be ridiculous. Why would I even do that? You are my most trusted man." Zyair’s words filled Kail with reassurances and he nodded in admiration.

Zyair smiled and turned his attention back to staring outside, his thoughts were taken back to his wife and daughter now.
